Chapter 58: Liyu’s Rage

Chapter 58

Liyu let out a small cold breath of air; he was indeed furious right now. For a brief moment earlier, he had even felt a hint of guilt because those men had attacked him while he was in a frenzied state; he had even felt a trace of pity for them.

But now? Now he felt that their deaths had been completely deserved. And according to the tribal-marked guy, there was a base not too far away from here that was filled with many more of their kind... a base that he desperately wanted to destroy.

Skinning a child alive... that was something Liyu simply could not let slide, not under any circumstances.

Liyu’s fists clenched tightly, and the very air around him seemed to tremble from the force of his anger; his teeth lengthened into sharp fangs, responding instinctively to the raging emotions boiling within him.

He was so close to rushing off immediately, yet before he could move, the voice of the system echoed within his mind: "Host, I would advise you to reconsider before making this move.

You have only just managed to push through the haze of madness caused by your bloodlust, and now you want to throw yourself into another bloody battle that will surely increase that bloodlust even further.

If another urge like the one you experienced earlier strikes again, then you might not be so lucky next time. You may not find several scapegoats exactly when you need them."

Liyu hesitated for a few moments before replying, his tone serious: "No. I need to go now. I will wipe the Dark Reapers out and skin their leader alive." A maddening thirst for vengeance burned within his heart as he spoke.

For once, the system fell silent; it could clearly feel the emotions radiating from Rayden, and it knew that the thing which had truly enraged its host wasn’t merely the countless crimes committed by the Dark Reapers... no, it was the children.

The fact that some of their victims had been young children. Rayden had always possessed a soft spot for children; he treated them like younger siblings he had never been fortunate enough to have. His rage was palpable.

The system doubted it could talk him out of this anymore; after several moments of silence, the system spoke again: "You’ve been gone for quite a while now. I’m more than certain Li Yuexin and the others are worried; they might already be searching for you. You need to return to them."

Liyu immediately stopped, not because he was afraid of the group discovering the extent of his true strength, nor because he feared them witnessing his monstrous capabilities... no, the real reason was that he didn’t want them getting involved in his battle against the Dark Reapers.

If there was one thing he wanted right now, it was to personally bring destruction and doom upon that organization with his own hands; he wanted to be the one who delivered terror to them, no one else.

What should he do? Liyu pondered for a few moments, then suddenly, his eyes lit up: there was one way to settle all of this.

Meanwhile, far away from where the six Dark Reaper members had lost their lives, Li Yuexin suddenly sat upright; her expression became increasingly worried.

It was faint, but she felt as though she had sensed a slight disturbance in the surrounding spiritual energy, and she was beginning to worry about Liyu.

Could he have encountered some great danger? Could he need her help? Perhaps he had encountered a powerful beast, or maybe it was whatever had been following their group ever since they began their journey... that mysterious presence that had caused every beast in the forest to flee in terror.

If that same being had targeted Liyu... then he might be in immense danger. She needed to go. Li Yuexin grabbed her blue sword and prepared to leave, however, before she could take more than a few steps, the sound of approaching footsteps reached her ears.

She immediately turned around, and then she froze, because the very person she believed to be in danger was standing right there, completely unharmed.

Seeing her startled expression, Liyu rubbed the side of his cheek and spoke in a calm and relaxed voice: "I’m back." The moment those words left his mouth, Li Yuexin rushed forward and embraced him tightly; Liyu found himself unable to shake her off.

Only after a while did she finally release him, and the instant she did, a barrage of questions came flying toward him: had he encountered danger? Where had he gone? Was something wrong? Had he been injured?

If there was any trouble, he shouldn’t hesitate to ask for her help. Liyu merely smiled calmly and assured her that everything was fine. Li Xie and the others, who were watching from the side, couldn’t help raising suspicious eyebrows; the reason was simple: Liyu sounded different.

The voice was still Liyu’s, but his manner of speaking felt more refined, more mature, and what stood out the most was how calm and precise he was with every word he spoke.

"Wait... Is it just me, or does that not seem like the Liyu I know?" Li Xie asked in a confused voice. The others slowly nodded: "Liyu seems different."

And the group was both right and wrong: the body standing before them was indeed Liyu’s... there was no mistake about that... however, the one currently controlling that body was not Liyu; it was King Rayden.

As for where the real Liyu had gone... well, he had already set out to wipe a rogue organization of cultivators from the face of the earth.

Far away from where the group rested, a flash of green lightning surged through the vast forest; it moved so quickly that it appeared like a streak of emerald light cutting through the wilderness.

And if someone managed to catch a glimpse of the figure responsible for that green lightning, they would be shocked, because it was a human... a young man dressed in expensive green robes and costly dark shoes.

His green hair flowed wildly behind him as arcs of green lightning crackled around his body; he leapt from tree to tree with astonishing speed.

King Rayden’s eyes flashed with madness for a brief moment, making it abundantly clear who was truly racing through the forest right now. Liyu accelerated; his heart pounded loudly within his chest. He could hardly wait; he wanted to unleash pure carnage upon the Dark Reapers.

He wanted to make them experience terror... not ordinary terror, but terror several times greater than what those unfortunate six men had felt during their final moments.

A dangerous grin slowly spread across his face: "I’m coming for you bastards. Just wait for me to tear you all apart." The killing intent contained within those words was enough to chill the very air around him.

Meanwhile, in the large base of the Dark Reapers... which was nothing more than an enormous cave large enough to easily accommodate hundreds of people without feeling crowded... the atmosphere was unusually lively.

The cave was heavily illuminated by countless candles and torches fixed along the walls.

Normally, such a bright display would have attracted numerous beasts from the surrounding forest, forcing the guards stationed outside to engage in brutal battles every now and then; however, due to some unknown incident, it was almost as if the beasts had completely migrated away from this part of the outer forest and lower regions.

Not that the Dark Reapers cared much about the matter; to them, fewer beasts simply meant fewer troubles, so they paid little attention to the strange phenomenon.

Inside the cave, two Dark Reaper members were locked in a brutal one-on-one struggle; their fists and weapons collided repeatedly as they wounded each other without mercy. Blood stained the rocky floor while pain and suffering filled their expressions, yet neither dared to stop.

The reason was simple: this fight existed purely for their leader’s entertainment. If either of them refused, they would die before they even understood how; after all, the two fighters were merely at the Peak Body Refinement Realm.

Compared to their leader, a Qi Refining expert, they were nothing more than ants struggling beneath a giant’s foot.

Meanwhile, the two guards stationed at the entrance were discussing something among themselves when suddenly they noticed a flash of green. A figure dressed in elegant green robes appeared several meters away from them.

The two guards instantly became alert; their expressions changed as they quickly raised their weapons, ready to confront the intruder. Yet before they could even take a single step forward, a flash of lightning streaked past them.

Whoosh! Liyu appeared behind them, holding two daggers formed entirely from crackling green lightning. His gaze remained calm and composed, though the rage hidden within his eyes was impossible to conceal.

"You two should die first." The thought crossed his mind calmly. The next moment... slash! The bodies of the two guards were cut cleanly in half.

Green lightning continued crackling across their severed corpses as they collapsed lifelessly to the ground; neither of them had even understood what had happened before death claimed them.

Without another glance at the corpses, Liyu stepped into the vast cave. Immediately, every gaze inside turned toward him. The entire cave fell silent.

Liyu walked forward calmly, his green robes fluttering lightly behind him; his face remained composed and emotionless, yet his eyes radiated a cold and terrifying fury that made many people instinctively uncomfortable.

The two Dark Reaper members who had been fighting moments ago sensed that the intruder was around the same realm as themselves; without hesitation, both of them charged forward.

In their minds, this foolish newcomer had made the greatest mistake of his life by barging into the Dark Reaper base alone. Unfortunately for them, reality was far crueler: the two men had not even managed to complete a single step.

The lightning daggers that had been resting in Liyu’s hands a moment earlier suddenly shot forward like bolts of judgment. Boom! Boom! The daggers pierced straight through their foreheads; their heads exploded almost simultaneously.

Blood and shattered bone sprayed through the air as both men collapsed lifelessly to the ground. The lightning daggers curved through the air before returning to Liyu’s waiting hands; he calmly caught them. Then he finally spoke.

His tone was calm, cool, controlled, yet every word carried a dangerous edge capable of sending chills down one’s spine: "All of you, listen carefully. From this moment onward... I will decide who lives and who dies."

His voice echoed throughout the massive cave. Liyu slowly swept his gaze across every Dark Reaper present, then his emerald eyes locked onto the large man seated proudly at the head seat several meters away... the leader of the Dark Reapers, the source of all this filth.

Liyu’s eyes narrowed slightly; a cold smile appeared on his face: "And the one who will be dying after those four... Will be you." His voice turned even colder.
