Rin remained seated on the edge of his bed for a long time after Reina left his room.

The dream still lingered vividly in the back of his mind, refusing to fade no matter how many times he told himself that it had merely been another nightmare.

Every time he closed his eyes, he could almost feel those silver threads digging into his skin once more, forcing his limbs to move against his will.

Even though he was awake now, the phantom sensation refused to disappear, making him instinctively rub his wrists as though expecting to find wounds there.

Unfortunately, there was nothing.

"...I really am reaching my limit."

Rin quietly muttered those words before lying back on his bed.

His body had been exhausted for days, and after everything that had happened recently, even remaining conscious felt like a burden.

He knew he needed sleep if he wanted to think clearly tomorrow, yet a small part of him hesitated to close his eyes again.

There was no helping it.

Sooner or later, exhaustion would win.

The notifications repeated endlessly without pause. No matter how hard he tried to dismiss them, they refused to disappear.

No matter where he looked, another message would appear.

It felt less like sleeping and more like spending the entire night trapped inside the system itself.

By the time morning finally arrived, Rin felt even more exhausted than he had before going to bed.

He slowly sat up while rubbing his forehead.

A small smile appeared on Rin’s face despite his exhaustion.

Without wasting any more time, he quickly changed into a fresh set of clothes before making his way toward the guest laboratory that Mira had practically claimed as her personal workspace.

Even before he reached the room, he could hear loud voices coming from inside.

"I already told you that this calculation is perfect! Stop touching my notes!"

"I’m not touching your notes. I’m making sure you didn’t accidentally poison all of us again."

"It only exploded twice!"

"...Exactly."

Rin could not help letting out a quiet laugh as he pushed the door open.

Both Kyle and Mira immediately turned toward him.

"There he is!"

Mira proudly puffed out her chest before dramatically placing a small glass vial onto the center of the table.

The liquid inside shimmered with a faint silver glow, occasionally giving off tiny ripples despite remaining perfectly still.

"I present to you the greatest masterpiece ever created by this genius."

She folded her arms with obvious satisfaction before continuing.

"After combining Karina’s research, Audrey’s notes, my own improvements, and Kyle’s surprisingly useful calculations, we’ve finally completed the inhibitor."

Kyle sighed beside her.

"She’s been waiting three hours just to say that."

"I wanted a proper audience. You don’t even appreciate my efforts."

Ignoring Kyle’s comment, Mira carefully picked up the vial and handed it to Rin.

"This will take down the system from inside and before anyone knows it, kaboom! It’s gone."

She paused for the first time since Rin had entered the room.

"...But I’m not going to lie to you."

The pride on her face slowly faded.

"I can’t guarantee it’ll work when it really matters."

Kyle nodded quietly.

"The system has already shown that it can adapt to almost anything we’ve thrown at it. Even if this works once, there’s no guarantee it won’t develop a countermeasure afterward."

Silence briefly settled over the room.

Rin looked down at the small vial resting in his hand before carefully slipping it into his pocket.

"I wasn’t planning to rely on it alone anyway. But I am sure it is going to be of help to us."

Both Kyle and Mira looked at him.

Rin’s expression gradually became more determined.

"If one opening is all we get, then I’ll make sure it’s enough to bring the entire system down."

Rin’s words had barely finished echoing through the laboratory before a deafening mechanical chime reverberated throughout the entire settlement.

It was louder than any system announcement they had heard before.

The sound did not merely reach their ears.

It seemed to resonate directly inside their minds.

The familiar blue windows that usually appeared only before individual hunters suddenly manifested in front of every person present. Layer after layer of translucent screens unfolded until they covered almost the entire sky.

Mira’s playful expression disappeared instantly.

Kyle had already risen from his chair.

The blue windows flickered violently for several seconds before countless lines of text began scrolling downward at an impossible speed.

Every line disappeared almost as quickly as it appeared, replaced by another wave of calculations that no ordinary person could hope to understand.

Rin felt an unpleasant chill run down his spine.

"Outside."

He was already moving before anyone else reacted.

Kyle and Mira immediately followed behind him, and the three of them hurried outside the laboratory just as alarms began ringing throughout the settlement.

Hunters poured into the streets from every direction but nobody spoke.

Everyone simply looked upward.

Toward the horizon.

The settlement fell completely silent.

Nobody understood.

The next message appeared.

Several hunters went pale.

Another hunter clenched his weapon.

Fear rapidly spread throughout the settlement. They had never expected the system to betray them so openly.

He sent that message to everyone he could reach. Bringing the system down was the first priority for everyone now and anything else could come later.

The system asked in excitement, but Rin did not feel the same. The system felt like a threat to him and it was time to take it down once and for all...even if the end result was him losing his life in the process.
