Chapter 274: Ch 274: Individual Will

I am fine. There is nothing going on with me. But if there is, I will inform you about it. I promise."

Rin assured Reina, but she still looked doubtful. She did not want to doubt Rin, but there was something about him that felt weird. It was a strange feeling that she could not put her finger on.

Still, since Rin was assuring her that everything was fine, she decided to go along with it and not ask too many questions.

Rin also let out a sigh once Reina stopped interfering in his business. As bad as he felt for Reina, he felt like keeping her around was a risk.

’How weird. There is no reason for me to feel like this about Reina. I wonder where this cautious feeling is coming from?’

Whatever the case was, Rin decided to escort Reina back to her quarters before heading toward his own office. He was walking casually, so he did not even notice when his feet led him outside.

He was only brought back to his senses when the system’s message flashed in front of him.

[Rookie, you are about to get some guests soon. You’d better get your mind back on track.]

The system warned him, and Rin let out a groan as he shook the haze from his head. He did not even know what was wrong with him right now.

"Ugh, you said that I have guests? Then let’s go and meet them... By the way, do you have any idea how I got here? The last thing I remember is heading back toward my office."

Rin asked, and the system replied in an easy-going tone.

[You walked here, Rookie. You looked so confident while walking that I thought you came here on purpose. Don’t tell me! Was it an unconscious decision?]

The system asked, and Rin found it odd that he had lost track of his thoughts. This had never happened to him before.

Still...

"It might be because I am tired and stressed. I want to believe that I rested enough, but I have a feeling that isn’t true these days."

Rin was always feeling tired and lethargic. He wanted to lie down and sleep all the time. But he knew he could not because he was in the middle of the apocalypse.

[Don’t worry, Rookie. The end is near. Soon, you will be rid of this annoying apocalypse, and you can live a normal life once more.]

The system assured Rin, but he doubted things would be that easy.

He and several other people would at least have PTSD after going through the apocalypse. He doubted any of them could return to a "normal" life once everything was over.

Still, it did sound nice.

[Rookie, you are getting distracted. Didn’t you have guests to attend to?]

The system reminded Rin, and he nodded. He was a little frustrated by the fact that he was getting distracted so easily. For some reason, every time he closed his eyes, he felt like he wanted to sleep.

Even his body felt like it was no longer his own.

"Let’s go and greet our guests. That will help me get out of this weird mood I’m in."

Rin reasoned before heading toward the guest rooms.

...

"Hello! We decided to come back since Task 13 is over. So, does anyone have any leads on where we’re supposed to look?"

Mira asked in an easy-going voice. Kyle was sitting beside her with an almost sour look on his face. But he relaxed as soon as he noticed Rin’s presence, and the tension around him eased.

[Rookie, do you want a hint? Then why don’t you look at the reward you received for completing the task?]

The system asked Rin, and he finally opened the "clue" he had received. He had been avoiding it until now, but perhaps it was finally time to see what it contained.

[System Reward: Clue.

With the first clue behind the apocalypse uncovered, it is time for you to finally have an insider explain why this world is needed.

Please proceed to Location X to obtain more answers.]

The system was leading them on another chase, but this one seemed like it would be worth the effort.

"Ugh, another blind chase? How many does that make now? I don’t want to leave my comfortable bed behind."

Mira complained, only to get hit on the head by Kyle.

"Stop complaining. Rin, we should leave tomorrow at the earliest. What do you think?"

Kyle asked, and Rin nodded. He had no problem with this arrangement.

"Alright. You both can stay here for today, and we shall leave tomorrow."

Rin told them, and after a few more minutes of discussion, he decided to head back to his room.

Or rather, that was his intention until he ran into some trouble on the way there...

Mainly, he forgot where his room was.

"Huh? Have I been away from my room for so long that I even forgot where it was? Or is the stress of the situation causing my memory to worsen?"

Rin questioned, but he did not get an answer. It made him sigh in annoyance, and he started looking for his room.

Fifteen minutes later, he finally remembered where it was and headed in that direction. But it was frightening that he could forget where his own room was in the first place.

"How weird! This has never happened to me before. I will need to look into it."

Rin concluded.

But by the time he woke up the next morning, he had forgotten all about what had happened to him. In fact, he felt like he had forgotten more than he should have.

He was sure that he needed to do something today, but he could not recall what it was.

It only came back to him when he noticed Kyle and Mira at the breakfast table, and Rin let out a groan.

’How weird! What is wrong with my memory? I’m sure it isn’t supposed to be acting like this.’
