Chapter 229: Ch 229: Heading toward the Demon King’s Castle

[Subject #00’s life signals have disappeared. Currently tracking the main body. Status: Alive and in good condition.]

"Hmm, looks like my beloved Rookie is doing something interesting. Should I check up on him?"

Molly questioned, but her hands were already typing on the keyboard to bring up an image of Rin in front of her.

Rin was currently asleep, and his sleep looked deep enough that he would not be disturbed no matter what happened.

But that was only on the outside. Inside, his consciousness had already left.

"Should I check up on it a little more?"

[Preparing to connect to User Rin’s consciousness. Ability countdown: 5...4...3...2...1...Initiating connection.]

[Connection failed. The host failed to respond in time.]

[You do not have permission to try this action. A breach has been noted. Next time, the system will proceed with a ban.]

"Hey, this is not fair! I was just trying to check up on something. Is that really something you need to be so nitpicky about?"

Molly complained, but she did not sound angry. In fact, she looked quite happy after getting scolded by the system.

And there was a reason behind this.

The fact that she had gotten such a message meant that the person who had captured Rin’s consciousness had a higher authority level than her. And there were not a lot of people who had such authority.

The only ones she could think of were Rin’s parents (who had no interest in him) and the system itself.

So she concluded that Rin was currently with the system.

"Ah, what an honor! I want to have a talk with my god as well! But alas, I shall settle for serving him for now."

Molly sighed as she looked at the screen in front of her. It showed the Demon King’s Castle in all its glory. It was the stage for the next task as well as the place where Karina had already set up her base.

"Well, I wish my lord and his chosen vessel the best of luck. I wouldn’t usually be worried, but Karina is a different case."

Unlike other people who were invested in the well-being of this planet, the only thing Karina was concerned about was her beloved’s well-being. She was even willing to watch this world burn if it meant she got to save her beloved.

That was where her interests and everyone else’s diverged. She was being tolerated for now because she was good at her job. But it was only a matter of time before she would be eliminated.

"Should I lend her a hand? I like Karina and her drive. It takes the heat off my back."

Molly questioned, but she did not move. Despite her words, she had no intention of wasting her resources on Karina of all people.

But if she became a threat to Rin’s life...then that was a different case.

__________

[Security around User Rin will be increased.]

[You can now control Level 1 and Level 2 creatures, the system creatures.]

[Time is up. User will be sent back to his current body to progress the main KPI quest.]

The system told Rin before the world around him started to fade. Rin blinked as he looked around, only to find that he was back in Reina’s office.

The pain in his chest was gone as well and he felt much better compared to before.

Rin checked his motor functions first, but there seemed to be nothing wrong with his body. He felt even better than before, which was likely just his brain playing tricks on him. But he still liked to think it was because of the system.

Unfortunately, that was where his free time ended because an alarm sounded throughout the building not long after.

[Task 11 has started. The first wave of the Demon King’s minions will be released soon. Please get ready to fend them off.]

The message was short, but it told Rin everything he needed to know. He quickly got up from the bed and, after changing, headed out.

Everyone else was already prepared to head out and they welcomed him quickly.

The Demon King’s Castle was visible from his current position and it loomed high above their heads. It did not take long for the first wave of monsters to head their way.

"Don’t die now. Allow them to come closer so we won’t have to use more force."

Rin reminded everyone and they nodded before bracing themselves for the attack.

The monsters came closer and Rin gave the signal to attack.

It was easy to take out these monsters since they had next to no defense, but their sheer numbers were overwhelming.

"Tsk, we better hurry and head toward the main castle. I don’t think we will ever get rid of these monsters otherwise."

Reina pointed out and Rin nodded.

He turned toward Collin, who had gained control of the field, and gave his command.

"Collin, handle things here. Make sure our people fight in shifts. That way, no one will be overworked. We will head toward the Demon King’s Castle now."

Rin told his butler and Collin nodded.

Ideally, Rin wanted to try using his new powers and command these demons to stop. But he had no idea how much energy it would consume.

It would be a disaster if he collapsed too soon.

"Sir Rin, we will clear the way for you."

Rin nodded toward the people from his settlement who were helping him out. They raised their weapons and quickly cleared a path for him and his party to advance.

"Albus, take over for them."

Rin told Albus once they were far enough away from the settlement, and Albus nodded before taking the lead in clearing the monsters. He had been chosen because he had the most stamina (darn his cheats), so he would likely not tire until they reached the Demon King’s Castle.

The gates were open and they quickly crossed through them to enter.

[You are the 4,657th person to enter the castle. Please be careful here. Try to find a map before it is too late.]

The system warned them all and Reina let out a gasp of betrayal.

"What do you mean there are over 4,000 people here already? Were they camping around this place or something?"

She yelled in shock and everyone else felt the same.

But Rin had a feeling that 90% of the people among those 4,000+ were no longer alive at the moment.
