Just a single phone call was enough to leave Chu Xiaoran utterly distraught.
Her dazed expression immediately drew the attention of Xiao Zheng and Leng Ruobing.
Xiao Zheng wiped his hands on his apron, then walked over and asked, "Xiao Ran, what’s wrong? Who was on the phone?"
Hearing this, Chu Xiaoran’s eyes turned red in an instant. "Xiao Zheng, it—it was the hospital. A doctor just called and told me that Sister Mo was in a car accident."
What!
As soon as he heard the news, Xiao Zheng’s mind went boom and went completely blank!
Not only him, even Leng Ruobing looked completely stunned!
Nobody knew how long it was before Xiao Zheng finally asked in a daze, "Xiao Ran, y-you just said Sister Mo was in a car accident? Is...is that true? That call really was from the hospital?"
Chu Xiaoran nodded, already choked up to the point she couldn’t speak.
"How could this happen? She was perfectly fine when we left the company. How could she suddenly get into a car accident?" Xiao Zheng really couldn’t accept this, and his heart was filled with guilt.
If he had been more forceful at the company and dragged Mo Anna out to dinner, maybe she wouldn’t have gotten into the accident.
Sensing Xiao Zheng’s anxiety, Leng Ruobing spoke calmly, "Xiao Zheng, you need to calm down first. What’s done is done. No matter how anxious you are, it won’t help. We need to get to the hospital right now and see what her condition is."
Hearing her words, Xiao Zheng finally snapped out of it.
The urgent priority now was to find out exactly how serious Mo Anna’s injuries were.
The three of them quickly changed clothes and headed straight for the hospital.
Half an hour later.
After Xiao Zheng sped all the way there, they finally arrived at First Hospital as fast as possible.
As soon as the three of them rushed into the hospital, Xiao Zheng immediately grabbed a passing doctor and asked anxiously, "Was a woman who was in a car accident just brought here? Do you know how she is now? Which ward is she in?"
The passing doctor was dumbfounded by him, clearly startled.
Once the doctor recovered, he said, "Sir, please calm down first. A car-accident victim was indeed brought to our ER just now, but as for the specifics, I’m not very sure. You can go check over at the emergency room."
Hearing that Mo Anna was very likely still in emergency care, Xiao Zheng grew even more anxious.
The three of them went to the emergency room, only to find there was no patient being treated inside.
Xiao Zheng was at a loss, not knowing where else to look for Mo Anna.
Just then, Chu Xiaoran suddenly thought of something and said, "Xiao Zheng, didn’t the doctor call you just now? Try calling back and ask. That doctor definitely knows where we can find Sister Mo!"
"Right! Why didn’t I think of that?" Xiao Zheng slapped his thigh, then hurriedly took out his phone.
After two rings, someone picked up.
Once he explained why he was calling, the doctor quickly told him what was going on.
But the result left Xiao Zheng rather surprised.
When he hung up, Leng Ruobing couldn’t help asking impatiently, "Xiao Zheng, what did the doctor say on the phone? What about Anna? How is she now?"
Hearing this, Xiao Zheng rubbed his face, a trace of fatigue showing on it. "The doctor said Sister Mo is basically fine. The accident was serious, but apart from falling into a coma at first, her body wasn’t injured."
"She’s already been taken to a ward to rest."
Hearing this, the hearts that had been hanging in Leng Ruobing and Chu Xiaoran’s chests finally dropped.
Leng Ruobing then asked, "Which ward is she in now? I want to go see her, otherwise I still won’t feel at ease."
Chu Xiaoran also stood by and nodded.
Seeing this, Xiao Zheng said, "Visiting hours are over, and she’s definitely asleep by now. Let’s find a hotel nearby for the night and come back first thing tomorrow morning."
"Alright then, that’s all we can do." Leng Ruobing sighed.
After all, rules are rules.
Visiting hours were over, so they could only come back tomorrow.
The three of them then left the hospital and found a nearby hotel to stay in.
Early the next morning, the three of them showed up in Mo Anna’s ward.
Mo Anna hadn’t woken up yet, but she looked quite good. Aside from her slightly pale face, her body, just as the doctor had said, showed no injuries.
It was a blessing in the midst of misfortune.
Seeing with their own eyes that Mo Anna was safe and sound, the three finally and completely relaxed.
"Are you two going to stay at the hospital, or go back and rest first?"
"You didn’t sleep well at the hotel last night, did you?"
Looking at the two women’s tired faces, Xiao Zheng couldn’t help asking, a bit distressed.
Hearing this, Leng Ruobing shook her head. "We’re fine. There’s nothing to do at home anyway. We’d rather stay and keep Anna company a bit longer."
Xiao Zheng nodded and didn’t try to persuade them further.
Just then, a nurse walked in. "Are you the patient’s family? Could someone come pay the bill?"
"I’ll go." Xiao Zheng raised his hand.
After speaking, he followed the nurse out of the ward.
After paying the hospitalization and other fees, Xiao Zheng headed back toward Mo Anna’s ward. But on the way, he suddenly felt something was off, as if someone was secretly watching him from behind.
Yet when he turned around, that sense of being spied on vanished without a trace.
Xiao Zheng’s heart sank, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
Even though he didn’t know whether that feeling of being watched was just his imagination, it still put him on high alert.
Back in the ward.
To Xiao Zheng’s surprise and delight, Mo Anna had actually woken up.
She was half-sitting on the bed, with Leng Ruobing and Chu Xiaoran keeping her company and chatting.
When she saw Xiao Zheng come back, Mo Anna’s eyes immediately grew moist. Clearly, she was reminded of last night’s scare. After brushing past the Ghost Gate, her heart had become extremely fragile.
Xiao Zheng sighed inwardly, but on the surface he smiled as he walked to the bedside and asked, "You’re awake? How do you feel? Any dizziness? Oh, and are you hungry? Do you want me to get you some breakfast?"
Feeling his concern, Mo Anna’s nose stung, and her tears overflowed before she could stop them.
Seeing this, all three of them felt a stab of sadness and heartache.
