Chapter 247: Chapter 246: [Chen]’s Shock and Doubt
Archbishop Airey of the Western Church moved to block Zhu Weiyi. The situation in the sky instantly became confrontational. The air was thick with tension as the Martial Artists from both sides faced off, making even the major powers observing from the sidelines grow cautious.
Regardless of whether their goal was the Enlightenment Fruit, no power present could risk proactively trying to stop [BaKi] from consuming it now. Otherwise, they would be swarmed by everyone.
After all, even the incredibly powerful Western Church was standing firmly on his side. This was no longer something an ordinary person could easily get their hands on.
The fruit was in his hands, which meant it was his.
Zhu Weiyi stared coldly at Airey, gritting his teeth in silent frustration, and made no further move.
’If I hadn’t been grievously injured during the battle of North Border City, forced to rely on Treasures of Heaven and Earth just to stay alive, who here could possibly stop me? That one move aggravated my old wounds. If I keep fighting, I might expose my true condition. That would be disadvantageous for the many Martial Artists who came here, and for Jiang Qiu, who has yet to appear. Without enough power to deter these major forces, the Xia Country Martial Artists here will be lambs to the slaughter.’
At this thought, he shifted his gaze to the levitating [BaKi] below. He took a deep breath and secretly relayed a message to the accompanying Xia Country Martial Artists.
"If a terrifying power erupts from that Demon King of Sang Island, do everything you can to withdraw from this place and return to North Border City. I still need to wait for Jiang Qiu to appear."
Everyone’s expression turned grim. They silently tightened their grip on their weapons.
...
In Kunlun City, within Xia Country’s Northwest Province, terrifying Great Demons roamed the ruins. A verdant forest had submerged the city once built of steel and concrete.
The Spirit Charm from a hundred-mile radius was drawn here, drifting between the skyscrapers and green trees. The city, once dealt a devastating blow, was now evolving into a primeval forest, creating a powerful, dynamic clash between technology and the primitive.
The massive crater in the center of Kunlun City, once the great cavern from which the Red Flame Spider Mother’s true body had emerged, was now filled with clear water. It had transformed into a great lake where fish and shrimp could be vaguely seen swimming. The water’s surface reflected the blue sky and white clouds, and its shores were ringed by great trees, like ancient sentinels.
DRIP...
A single drop of water fell into the pool, sending ripples spreading until they lapped against a pair of feet covered in Dragon Scales, shaped like tiger paws with eagle talons. In the center of the lake, the silent [Chen] slowly opened his eyes. Golden patterns within his blood-red pupils glinted with a cold light.
He still had the appearance of a young boy, but the Antlers on his head were more branched and distinct than when he first appeared, exuding the domineering aura of the Dragon Race.
DRIP...
Another drop of water fell from the sky. The instant it was about to strike the tip of his nose, it slid off as if from polished jade, finally landing on the lake’s surface below his feet and shattering into a spray. It was as if an invisible barrier existed between him and the water.
"Rain falls on Dragon Lake; a great calamity is coming."
With a low murmur, [Chen] tilted his head up to look. The blue sky and white clouds fled like stray dogs, driven away by a swath of dark clouds. Lightning flashed and thunder roared in the skies above the once-serene Kunlun City.
RATTLE...
In the blink of an eye, rain fell like a torrent of pearls, pouring down all at once. Save for [Chen], who remained untouched by a single drop, the entire Kunlun Dragon Lake seemed to be shattering under the deluge.
’There’s no doubt that something has gone wrong in the Northern Wilderness Great Secret Realm. The True Dragon’s breath has been unleashed. Extreme phenomena will appear across all of Blue Star, possibly even heralding a cataclysm capable of destroying everything. In an era where even a Dao Entry Realm cultivator can be called a Grandmaster, the Human Race could never comprehend power beyond the Fusion Realm. They have no idea what consequences will follow once the Sealing Array on the True Dragon’s skeleton is broken.’
’Peeping Dao Realm makes a Demon General, Dao Entry Realm a Demon Marshal, Fusion Realm a Demon King, and only Harmonization Realm a Demon Emperor. My power has not recovered much, but I’ve reached the Dao Entry Realm. Among the Human Race, there are few who could last a single exchange with me.’
’Luo Beixing, who guards the Northwest Province, is a notable figure, but that’s all he is.’
[Chen] wasn’t worried about the impending catastrophe. ’For the current me, it would only take a little time to destroy Xia Country. Once Xia Country is gone, there aren’t many respectable powers left in the Human Race. Then, I can naturally complete the Great Dao and return to my peak state.’
’As for the mission I gave [Feng Li]... it was indeed important, but it wasn’t difficult, nor were the requirements high.’
’Perhaps [Feng Li] can’t kill Jiang Qiu right now. Perhaps he didn’t get the Enlightenment Fruit. Perhaps he didn’t even touch the True Dragon Skeleton. But none of that matters. Jiang Qiu will die by my hand sooner or later, remedying my ’Great Dao Imperfection’. The Enlightenment Fruit, while incredibly precious, is merely the icing on the cake; it’s probably a few notches below the path of reincarnation I’ve chosen. As for the True Dragon Skeleton being refined by some opportunist? Besides myself—the only one in this world with the characteristics of the Dragon Race—who has the guts and the ability to refine the bones of a True Dragon? Only a sheltered snake from a sewer would be arrogant enough to think it could leap out and achieve Dragon Transformation. The task I assigned [Feng Li] was just to let him see the world and gain some experience. He is, after all, the most talented Great Demon in the Kunlun Demon Clan today, so of course he needs some nurturing. I never expected him to actually complete any mission. That wasn’t the fundamental goal.’
’However, since the catastrophe is coming, it’s indeed time to execute the plan to exterminate the Human Race...’
With this thought in mind, [Chen] sent out a command with his will. All the Great Demons belonging to the Kunlun Demon Clan immediately stopped what they were doing, their hearts trembling, and knelt to receive the order: "The True Dragon Breath has been exposed. The Law sealing the Northern Boundary is crumbling. Soon, a great calamity will sweep the globe. Immediately launch an assault on the cities of the Northwest Province."
"ROAR—"
"AWOOO—"
The howls of ten thousand demons shook the heavens and the earth, echoing the raging storm of rain and thunder.
[Chen] withdrew his gaze and slowly closed his eyes, continuing the Refinement of the eight types of Spirit Charm within his body. They swirled around his heart like planets orbiting a sun, their colors blending and repelling each other.
The Cultivation Technique path he walked in this life was different from his previous one. It was taken from an Exotic Realm—a mysterious Cultivation Method that offered the hope of breaking through the Harmonization Realm. At its apex, it might truly allow one to reach the state of a True Dragon.
But the difficulty was extreme, and to this day, he had not made any significant breakthroughs.
’This is probably because of the ’Great Dao Imperfection’. The task of killing Jiang Qiu can no longer be delayed...’
As his thoughts reached this point, a Dragon’s Roar suddenly erupted from the depths of [Chen]’s soul, as if a powerful ancestor was resonating with him from the other side!
SNAP. He opened his eyes again, his vertical pupils constricting to a point. "The True Dragon Breath is receding?"
He had sensed it the instant the Northern Wilderness Great Secret Realm opened again. After all, he and the True Dragon were of the same lineage; their relationship was extremely special. When its breath began to seep out, he felt it clearly.
But for its breath to recede was another matter entirely. It meant that the source of the breath—the True Dragon Skeleton—was being subjected to Refinement and was no longer continuously emitting the True Dragon Breath.
"[BaKi] could never carry out the Refinement of the True Dragon Skeleton," [Chen]’s eyes narrowed, his dragon-like claws clenching. His profound gaze shot northward, concealing a cold intent. "Could it be that Jiang Qiu has completely refined my Ancient Origin, gaining the characteristics of the Dragon Race? How did he do it?"
