Chapter 665: Chapter 654: Archmagushroom
To be honest, even if Ivan and Number Ten were struck by the lightning sphere and turned into ashes on the spot, Lin Jun wouldn’t wrinkle his mushroom hat.
After all, Number Ten dying isn’t really a big deal.
But Lin Jun had just made the decision to save Ivan, and now a lightning sphere killing Ivan somewhat disrespects the Savior’s presence.
Anyway, the people nearby were pretty much gone now, so Lin Jun could loosen up a bit.
Below Ivan, from the gaps in the sewer grates, the hollows beneath the cracked floor, and the mouse holes at the base of the walls, countless resilient tendrils shot out, sticking one after another onto Number Ten hidden behind Ivan.
The magic of the entire area was gathering from the underground network, constantly pouring into Number Ten’s body.
The fluorescence of Number Ten’s mushroom hat was brighter than ever before, a sign that the magic had overflowed to its limit.
"Go ahead, Number Ten, let’s see your current strength!" After saying that, Lin Jun entered the spectating mode.
Unfortunately, it was Fei Xi’s turn to control the body, otherwise, adding honey and red wine and viewing it while eating would be even better.
...
Already far away, Gall ran while looking back, squinting uncertainly, "There seems to be something on the ground connected to Ivan?"
"Forget about that nonsense, can you run faster?" Saying this, Night Owl couldn’t help but glance back too, the magic vortex blurred what exactly was connected to Ivan, "Half of Novid laid to rest with him, Ivan dying grandly...and our savings..."
Thinking about ten years of savings being used to compensate for damages, along with falling into heavy debt, Night Owl couldn’t help but consider retreating to Elf Forest to live as a debtor.
"It’s going to come down!" Nova’s words interrupted Night Owl’s messy thoughts.
In the distance, the lightning sphere moved.
Not falling, but pressing down.
As the lightning sphere moved, clouds, magic, and even space itself experienced slight distortions toward the ground.
And Number Ten finally made his counterattack.
Over a dozen tentacles extended from beneath the mushroom hat, each tip expressed a magically conjured arc.
Previously, before entering the Super Magic Library, Number Ten relied on the S-Class Demon Crystal in his body, casting magic one at a time, not able to last a few rounds before being annihilated by the lightning sphere.
But now, with ample magic, strong spiritual power, and the casting techniques learned from the Super Magic Library’s mutual support...
Fireball, Ice Cone, Wind Blade, Thunder Strike, Shadow Arrow, Light Spear...magic of various attributes and forms surged inversely towards the pressing lightning sphere.
They exploded on the surface of the lightning sphere.
One group, two groups, ten groups, a hundred groups.
The explosion turned into a continuous light, colorful, resisting the downward pressure of the lightning sphere.
"What is he doing?" Night Owl widened her eyes, thinking it was Ivan awake and casting from afar, "Using magic...to block that thing?"
"Not blocking, but consuming it," Nova was evidently more sensitive to magic than Night Owl, "Though this fluctuation...doesn’t look like Ivan’s magic..."
Nova didn’t linger on the thought, as such extraordinarily deviant scenes might occur under unpredictable magic fluctuations.
The lightning sphere continued to press down, passing through the first wave of magic like falling light debris; the second wave consumed it again; then the third wave, fourth wave...
Since its formation, the lightning sphere lacked magic replenishment, whereas Number Ten drew limitless magic from the entire Fungal Mat, the magic from each tentacle was continuously outputted.
The people who had fled outside the city watched the dazzling magic brilliance in the sky, feeling as if they had reached a battlefield’s peak.
Over time, the lightning sphere lowered to Ivan’s head, with both sides less than ten meters apart, danger loomed.
However, Number Ten knew that this lightning sphere had reached the end of its tether.
When yet another round of magic struck, it shattered.
The energy concentrated to its limit burst free in an instant, erupting chaotically in all directions, unleashing all it had accumulated upon the world.
The blinding light swallowed everything and a blue magic shield deflected the electric arc aimed at Ivan.
Night Owl closed her eyes, feeling the world tremble around her.
The ground beneath her feet undulated like ocean waves, the roar lingering in her ears. She didn’t know how long had passed before the roar stopped, and she opened her eyes.
Ivan still hovered mid-air, the surging magic around him had largely calmed.
In the distance, the city’s tallest structure, the Lord’s castle, the top half had vanished.
Where the Magic Tower once stood was now a pile of tilted ruins.
Broken pillars fell from mid-air, piercing through the castle’s wings and into the square in front of the castle.
Night Owl felt Viscount Parren must loathe Ivan enough to want him dead.
"Night Owl! Catch Ivan!" Nova’s shout redirected Night Owl’s focus back to Ivan.
As the gathered magic dispersed, Ivan slowly descended and began to accelerate.
Night Owl didn’t answer, quickly diving into the shadow beneath her.
Luckily, the path of ruins provided ample shade, allowing Night Owl to move forward at top speed.
Nevertheless, she was seemingly one step behind as Ivan, having just survived the ordeal, was about to crash into a heap. His falling abruptly halting as if something lifted him momentarily.
Night Owl didn’t have time to question, emerging from the shadow below, grabbing Ivan by one foot, merging together into another shadow.
Reappearing, she was already by Nova’s side.
"Whoa, this guy’s magic still isn’t stable, almost got me thrown out several times." Saying so, she dumped Ivan into Gall’s arms.
Gall, after receiving Ivan, skillfully downed a bottle of protective magic potion.
High above, Number Ten, having used Wind Magic to momentarily handle Ivan, landed on the ground.
Though he maintained invisibility, magic disrupts had already dispersed, staying airborne risked attracting mage attention.
Moreover, Number Ten’s state wasn’t entirely favorable.
The last burst of lightning on the shield contained what seemed like unknown information, intuitively something crucial, but also potentially dangerous.
All he could do was use his strong spiritual power to confine it, dissecting it bit by bit later.
Counting everything from start to finish, even with his current spiritual power, Number Ten found it overwhelming, upon landing, he lazily fell onto the Fungal Mat.
Beneath him the mycelium moved, before long Number Ten’s mushroom body faded into the Fungal Mat.
Once again, Number Ten returned to that warm and safe place, fatigue gently dissolved without awareness. In a trance, he seemed to hear the Mushroom Lord’s voice, "Such an awesome display merits a title for more swagger! Hmm...Archmagus...Grand Mushroom Archmagus?"
...
In the wreckage of the courtyard, feeling both relieved and apprehensive over Ivan’s survival and the compensation to follow, Silverthorn Squad suddenly heard a faint cry for help from the ruins.
The group exchanged looks, reckoning the voice sounded familiar.
Night Owl, with a quick run, dragged out Augustus, dusty and hardly believing his own survival — no one remembered him amid the crisis.
