Chapter 661: Chapter 650: The Era of Puki

On the terrace at the top of the central tower of Fungus Castle, the thin sunlight from the Northern Territory was embraced.

Looking down at the three new mushrooms surrounded by the Fungus People, the Sword Saint asked Marshal Puki beside him: "Performing miracles, resurrecting the dead, are you...a god?"

Though I really wanted to straighten my mushroom body, unfold the Sunstone brilliance behind my mushroom cap, and stylishly admit it.

But Lin Jun is an honest mushroom.

"Not yet."

The Sword Saint didn’t press on what the "yet" meant, he just tilted his mushroom cap a bit: "Then why do you want to resurrect them?"

Hearing the Sword Saint’s question, Marshal Puki jumped up indignantly: "What do you mean why? They are all my precious people! Of course, if we can resurrect, we should try our best to...besides, it doesn’t cost money."

For some reason, the Sword Saint always felt that the final half of that sentence was the main point.

He originally thought that the leader must have paid some kind of price to resurrect himself.

After all, as the Sword Saint, he had such value.

He had imagined many possibilities, consuming precious resources, paying some kind of price, or using some forbidden power.

But now it seems...the leader’s resurrection power is much more convenient than he imagined.

So convenient that it doesn’t seem like something that should be in the hands of mortals.

Of course, the leader is obviously neither "ordinary" nor "human." But in any case, such an ability seems too powerful to the Sword Saint.

I don’t know how long a Puki can live, but since it can be resurrected at will, lifespan is presumably no longer an issue.

Setting aside the point of "must abandon human form to become a Puki," this kind of immortality seems far superior to the tricks of the Blood Race.

The Blood Race, when killed, will die.

But Puki...is truly "As long as the Fungal Mat exists, Puki will not die."

The experience of growing back from the Fungal Mat after death, he himself has been through it several times.

The Sword Saint doesn’t know much about soul matters, but even without specialized research, one can easily deduce one thing:

As the leader continues to resurrect, more and more will convert into mushrooms, until one day, the world will be full of Puki.

This could be considered a global crisis, right?

Although thinking this, the Sword Saint had no intention of doing anything to betray Lin Jun.

The real crisis to face is the mist; too many Puki is something to consider later. After saving the world, properly discussing related matters with the leader isn’t impossible.

If you take a step back, although it feels strange if everyone turns into Puki, it seems not entirely unacceptable.

At least, the Sword Saint is quite satisfied with his current mushroom body.

As he was pondering over various thoughts, the leader’s message suddenly came through the Fungal Network.

"What are you thinking?" Marshal Puki’s tendril reached out in front of him, gently poking the edge of his mushroom cap, "Could it be that you are thinking, once the resurrection matter spreads, those things you were played with by Inanna and Galadriel will be exposed?"

The anticipation in the message had no concealment.

The Sword Saint was silent for a long time.

He changed his mind.

Being a Puki...is truly difficult.

...

If anyone was happiest about the addition of three new converts, it was certainly Will.

As the first Mushroom Race to truly complete "Ascend to Mushroom" through faith, he had lived through a complex period.

At first, there was fear; when he woke up and found himself no longer himself, the bewilderment and confusion lasted for a good half-day.

Then came the emotion, learning from No. 7 that it was the Mushroom Lord who personally guided his soul back from death.

Next, it was curiosity; he spent an entire week wandering around the Mushroom Garden, adapting to walking, climbing, and rolling things with his tendrils in this new body.

Later, it was a faint, lingering solitude.

Life in the Mushroom Garden was not hard.

No. 7 was an enthusiastic guide, though occasionally...quirky.

Will still remembers the scene when he first saw that black Dragon Man, who was called Xiao Hai and reportedly also a resident of the Mushroom Garden.

That day, No. 7 was showing him around the environment, and Xiao Hai suddenly appeared, grabbing No. 7’s leg and stuffing it into her mouth.

Will was so shocked then that all four of his tendrils stiffened.

Soon after, the resurrected No. 7 appeared lively in front of him, happily sharing the experience of being eaten: "You know, when she chews, if you slightly turn your body, that crushed feeling is more even!"

Will listened in silence, his tendrils trembling slightly, with another meaning of fear.

Although he couldn’t agree with No. 7’s unique taste, he at least understood one thing: the Mushroom Race does not need to worry about death.

Strangely enough, that Dragon Man, Xiao Hai, seemed not very interested in him. A few encounters, she only grabbed No. 7, ignoring Will.

Will occasionally wondered, is No. 7 really tastier?

Unfortunately, after becoming a Puki, he could no longer taste anything.

But what truly made him uneasy was another thing.

Loneliness.

In Fungus Castle, he wasn’t lacking communicators. No. 7 often sought him out, the passing Mushroom Race would stop and greet him, and even the Dragon Man Xiao Hai would respond to his messages—though often incongruously.

The Mushroom Lord also didn’t limit his mobility; he could even leave the Mushroom Garden and visit the wondrous city of Fungus Castle.

But here, he was the only one who turned from human to mushroom.

No. 7 and No. 14 were born Mushroom Race, only he was once human, once called Will, once chopped wood, moved stones, and prayed in the Mushroom Forest of the Mushroom Worship Sect with a group of refugees.

He couldn’t find a kindred spirit.

Thus when he heard that Fungus Castle suddenly had three additional converts, Will was the happiest of them all.

Early in the morning, he squeezed into the crowd in the square, mixed among the Fungus People, found a wooden box, and watched from afar the appearance of the three new mushrooms.

Kindred spirits!

Though only one among the three was human, in Will’s view, this was unimportant.

They all believed in the same Mushroom Lord.

They had all become Puki.

The past, race, identity, what they did in life, none of it mattered anymore.

At the same time, he realized that in the future, there would be more kindred spirits. Those refugees, those believers, those Fungus People who died in the war...they would all come here and become what he is now.

The era belonging to the Mushroom Lord and Puki will eventually arrive.

And Will is a part of it!

"Praise the Mushroom Lord!"

"Hmm."

"..."

If only the Mushroom Lord could be a bit more mysterious and aloof—Will sometimes quietly thought this.

...

While the people of Fungus Castle were cheering for the newly born Mushroom Race, Eugene and Dean were busily organizing a large army, seeking external aid, seemingly wanting to capture Fungus Castle once and for all.

Lin Jun naturally knew this well.

Then Lin Jun sent a request for assistance to the Dwarves.
