Chapter 446: 446 Resident Evil 6

"I think we’ve gathered enough data."

"Yeah, and now that the elevator is working, let’s go upstairs."

We all took the elevator up.

The upper floor had a simple structure, with just one large room that appeared to be a lab.

We entered the room cautiously, maintaining our perimeter.

Inside, there were numerous test tubes filled with unknown organisms, and at the far end, Wesker was working on a computer.

"Wesker!"

"I never dreamed so many of you would survive. My subordinates are more capable than I thought."

"How long have you been doing this? Since when were you working as a researcher for Umbrella!? And why did you betray us!?"

When Chris asked, Wesker explained.

"I have no idea what you’re talking about. You seem to be mistaken, but I’ve always been affiliated with Umbrella. Also, S.T.A.R.S. was Umbrella’s property... no, I should say they were my private army. The Tyrant virus (T-Virus) leaked and contaminated this entire facility. So unfortunately, I had to abandon my beloved S.T.A.R.S. members."

Enrico frowned and spoke.

"You killed Bravo Team members with those filthy hands! You... son of a bitch!"

"Oh, Enrico. Even with that wounded leg, you’re still alive... Perfect timing. I have something I want to show you."

Wesker said that, and before we could stop him, he tapped the keyboard and activated something.

He then looked at a large test tube next to him, and we followed his gaze.

Inside stood a monster at least 2.5 meters tall.

Its skin was pale and twisted, like the marks of experimentation, and its left arm was deformed, with claws that extended threateningly.

Most chillingly, a massive heart visible on one side of its chest pulsed grotesquely, as if showing the monster’s life force.

Perhaps because Wesker had activated it, the liquid in the test tube began to drain, and Wesker stood in front of the creature and proudly introduced it.

"The ultimate life form, the Tyrant!"

"Calling that the ultimate life form? You’re insane."

"You could never understand. This is beauty itself."

But suddenly, the Tyrant in the tank used its claws to break the glass tube and impaled Wesker, who was standing in front of it, through his abdomen.

Squelch!

"Guh!"

"Wesker..."

Chris, shocked by the sudden turn of events, called out to Wesker, but he was already dead, hanging limply on the Tyrant’s claws.

The Tyrant then tossed him to the ground.

Thud!

I knew Wesker had deliberately let the Tyrant attack him to activate the Progenitor Virus, but I let it happen.

Wesker being alive made the Resident Evil universe more interesting.

There was no one quite like him as a mastermind.

Besides, I had something to gain from him too.

The Tyrant looked at us as if to say "You’re next" and began walking toward us threateningly.

"Damn, attack!"

"Bring it on, you test tube freak!"

Click, bang! Click, bang! Bang, bang, bang! Boom!

While my teammates were engaging the Tyrant, I slipped over to the fallen Wesker, took out a syringe from my inventory, and secretly drew his blood.

’I need to secure what I can.’

Wesker’s blood contained the completed Progenitor Virus.

Since it would be difficult to obtain otherwise, I had no choice.

The Progenitor Virus is the original virus from which all other viruses in Resident Evil are derived.

I quickly sealed Wesker’s blood in a prepared case, thoroughly sterilized it, and stored it in my inventory.

"Jin! Wesker’s dead. Just give us covering fire!"

"Got it!"

But because it took a little time, Chris caught me near Wesker, but luckily he seemed to think I was checking if Wesker was dead, and just shouted that.

I raised the Origin shotgun and opened fire on the Tyrant.

Bang, bang, bang, bang!!!

The Tyrant was truly tough.

No matter how much I shot it with the shotgun, it wouldn’t fall.

Instead, with so many members surviving and so many shotguns blazing, we could at least stop it from approaching.

"Damn it, just fall already!"

I switched from the shotgun to the Mallorian Arms 3516, which I had used in Cyberpunk, and started shooting.

The large-caliber pistols from the Cyberpunk universe boasted powerful firepower to deal with heavily armored cyberware-enhanced opponents, and since I had heavily modified it, its power was even more maximized.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Grrr!

Using the Mallorian Arms, which had excellent power, the Tyrant began to stagger.

Barry took that opportunity, raised the grenade launcher, and shouted.

"Everyone get back!!"

Whoosh-! Boom!!! Whoosh-! Boom!!! Whoosh-! Boom!!!

When Barry stepped forward and fired the grenade launcher repeatedly, the Tyrant finally collapsed to the floor.

Thud!!

"Did we... get it?"

Enrico said something he shouldn’t have, but I let it slide.

"Let’s get out of here. I saw an elevator to the surface earlier. We can get out easily through that."

When I said that, Jill offered an opinion.

"While looking for evidence, I saw that this lab was cultivating a lot of the T-Virus. We can’t leave it like this. We need to burn this entire place down. Luckily, I found a self-destruct system in the lab for security purposes. We can activate that."

"But we still haven’t made contact with the outside, and we don’t have an escape route. Let’s secure the escape route first, then activate it. That’ll be safer."

"Yeah, let’s do that."

We took the elevator up to the surface.

Above ground, there was a massive iron door and a clearing.

The iron door was probably the opposite side of the one we saw near the pool before entering the lab.

And since there was no visible road connecting to the outside, but a wide, paved clearing, it was easy to tell that this lab was the kind that only received supplies by helicopter.

Unlike the original, the problem was the timing.

Because we had moved so quickly, it was still dark, and we had lost all contact with Brad, who was in the helicopter.

"What do we do now?"

"Look, there’s a checkpoint with an antenna over there. They must use it to contact the outside. I’ll go check it out."

Richard, the communications specialist, spotted the checkpoint at the end of the clearing and told us.

Chris said, "Don’t go alone. Take Joseph with you. In case it’s broken, and who knows what else might show up."

"Okay."

Following Chris’s advice, Richard and Joseph went to the checkpoint.

But then, suddenly, the ground trembled and heaved, and the Tyrant, which had been down, burst up through the floor.

The members, shocked, hurriedly backed away.

"Damn! It’s still alive!"

Enrico said that, but setting a flag like that wasn’t really his place.

We started shooting at the Tyrant again.

But unlike before, our firepower wasn’t concentrated in one spot, and the Tyrant took that opportunity to swing its sharp left arm, attacking the nearby members.

Chris stepped forward, fired his shotgun at the Tyrant, and drew its attention to himself.

Click, bang! Click, bang!

"Over here, you bastard!!!"

"Chris, watch out!!"

Whoosh-!

"Ugh!"

Chris rolled on the ground, barely dodging the Tyrant’s attack.

But he couldn’t keep up with the relentless assault for long.

"Barry! Do you have any more of those grenades you fired earlier?"

"No, I used them all!"

Thinking Chris might die at this rate, I drew my backpack and quickly severed the Tyrant’s swinging claws.

The Tyrant then seemed to switch its target from Chris to me, immediately chasing after me.

"Chris, use this!"

While running, I barely blocked or deflected the Tyrant’s attacks with my backpack, waiting for an opportunity.

Then I dropped the unlimited rocket launcher I had on my back, kicked it toward Chris.

Chris quickly picked it up and got ready to fire.

"Jin!! I’m ready, get clear!!"

At Chris’s shout, I drew the Mallorian Arms and focused fire on one of the Tyrant’s legs.

Bang, bang, bang, bang!!

When the Tyrant staggered from the attack, I quickly pulled back.

"Now!"

At my signal, Chris pulled the trigger of the unlimited rocket launcher without hesitation.

Whoosh-! KABOOM!!!!

Crash...

As expected of a rocket launcher’s power, the rocket warhead hit the Tyrant’s back, and its upper body exploded and vanished, its remaining lower half collapsing limply to the ground.

Jill admired the sight.

"Wow... if we had that, why didn’t we use it sooner..."

"Chris was too close, so we couldn’t."

"True, with that kind of power, anyone nearby wouldn’t have been safe either."

With the Tyrant dealt with, the members caught their breath, sitting on the floor or leaning against walls.

After everything that happened today, everyone looked exhausted.

I took out water from my backpack and handed it to the members.

"You’re always prepared. I’ll drink well."

While the members rested, drinking the water I gave them, I took the opportunity to secretly collect some of the Tyrant’s flesh.

I placed it in a special container, thoroughly sterilized it, and put it in my inventory.

With this, I had secured not only the Progenitor Virus and the T-Virus, but also the Tyrant’s genes.

The Tyrant’s genes are valuable because of the nature of the T-Virus.

When an ordinary person is infected with the T-Virus, they simply become a common zombie.

However, in extremely rare cases, a person with specific genes, instead of becoming a zombie with severely reduced intelligence, undergoes a dramatic physical enhancement and mutates into a Tyrant.

But such genes are found in only one in 10 million people.

Even if you took the entire population of the Korean Peninsula, you’d get less than ten—a ridiculously rare probability.

So mass-producing Tyrants naturally was practically impossible.

To solve this problem, Umbrella began cloning people with the right genes, infecting the clones with the T-Virus to produce Tyrants.

Human dignity and international norms were never a concern for them.

There were a few more things I needed to collect here, so I excused myself for a moment.

"I’ll be right back, just going to the bathroom."

"Yeah."

After saying that, I went downstairs and teleported to the armory in the dormitory.

I used [Life Magic] to thoroughly sterilize all the firearms and ammunition stored there, then put them in my inventory.

Then I used the [Jack Sparrow’s Compass] ability to find ’Lisa Trevor’s’ location.

I couldn’t leave her behind with a clear conscience.

Lisa was chasing Wesker, who was fleeing through the mansion’s hall.

Just as I expected, Wesker had revived with the power of the Progenitor Virus and was trying to escape the mansion.

"Be a good girl. Stay dead this time."

To shake off the persistent Lisa, Wesker shot the chandelier hanging from the ceiling with perfect timing.

The massive chandelier crashed down on Lisa, pinning her, and Wesker escaped the mansion.

I slowly approached Lisa, who was writhing under the chandelier.

"Mama..."

Even pinned under the chandelier, Lisa was still calling for her mother, which was quite pitiful.

In fact, there was also something to gain from Lisa.

She is the first known host of the G-Virus.

But what manifested in her was not the completed G-Virus, but a mutated variant, so I decided to give up on it for now.

Instead, I resolved to secure the completed G-Virus that ’William Birkin’ would develop later.

Since he was going to complete it anyway, there was no need to bother with an incomplete version.

"I’ll give you a new life. Live well."

I removed the chandelier, placed my hand on Lisa’s head, and used the [Effortless Transformation] ability to transform her body into that of a young girl.

Then I used the [Mind Penetration (Cassandra)] ability to erase all her painful memories and everything related to her family.

After that, I carried Lisa back to the clearing where the others were.

You might ask what kind of universal ability [Effortless Transformation] is—and you’d be right, it is universal.

It can transform the soul itself, curing any illness or physical defect, and also allow bodily transformation.

It was an ability I had been determined to obtain, even by getting rid of Mahito from Jujutsu Kaisen if necessary.

Fortunately, I had gotten it early in a gacha and had been putting it to good use.

"Oh, who’s this?"

Jill asked, seeing the girl I brought.

"She was locked in a corner of the lab. I found her and brought her along. They must have been planning to use her as a test subject."

Jill and the other members started getting angry.

"Those bastards!! Even a child like this!!"

"Damn sons of bitches!!"

I calmed them down and spoke.

"Everyone, calm down. It’s best to keep this a secret. We don’t know what Umbrella might do."

"True. But what are we going to do with her?"

"What else? I’ll take care of her. I’m not that irresponsible."

"That’s kind of you, but it looks like you’re going to become a dad all of a sudden?"

"Can’t you just say older brother?"

Jill approached Lisa, patted her head, and asked.

"Hey, what’s your name?"

"I don’t know. I can’t remember."

"I see..."

Because I said she was a test subject, when Lisa said she couldn’t even remember her own name, all the members looked at her with pity.

"How about we give her a name?"

"That’s a good idea."

"What would be good..."

"How about Jessie?"

"Hey! That’s the name of the pizza place employee!"

"Ahaha, was it?"

The members suddenly decided to give Lisa a new name.

The atmosphere became cheerful, so I decided not to object and just let them be.

Then Rebecca, as if she had an idea, clapped her hands and spoke.

"How about Anna? It’s short for Anastasia, which means ’resurrection’ or ’new beginning’ in Greek."

"Oh, that’s nice. ’Anna’... the meaning is good, and it sounds nice too."

When the members all looked satisfied, I looked at Lisa and asked.

"How about it? Do you like it?"

"Yes. I like it."

Lisa nodded with a smile, and the members’ faces brightened with joy.

With that, Lisa, now named ’Anna,’ received a new name and left her past behind to start a new life.

Just then, Richard, who was at the checkpoint, shouted loudly.

"I got through to Brad! He says he’ll be here soon!"

Relief and joy spread across the members’ faces.

"Oh, that’s great news."

"We’ll need a few days of rest when we get back. We’ve been through a lot this time."

"Yeah."

"I’m going to take a shower first thing."

"I want to have a warm meal and a drink."

But we couldn’t all fit on the helicopter at once.

There were too many survivors.

So we sent Bravo Team’s Elpis, Rebecca, Richard, and Alpha Team’s Barry, who were exhausted from the long mission and wounded, first.

The rest of us would activate the lab’s self-destruct system and escape when the helicopter returned.

Thwup, thwup, thwup...

"It’s finally here. Let’s get ready."

"Yeah."

Since I was looking after Anna, Jill and Joseph went to activate the self-destruct system, and then everyone boarded the helicopter.

KABOOM—!!!!

As we flew away, we heard a massive explosion and simultaneously looked back toward the mansion.

A giant black mushroom cloud rose high into the sky with an immense column of fire.

Seeing that, it was clear just how much explosive Umbrella had planted throughout the mansion and lab to cover their tracks.
