Chapter 416: 416 Warhammer 1

I didn’t plan to stay in the Warhammer universe for long.

It’s such a crazy world with bizarre gods and all sorts of headaches.

So I decided to go to Space Marine 2 just to get a taste, grab some abilities, and see Titus.

[Avatar is being created.]

Demetrian Titus

Age: 243

Gender: Male

Characteristics: A calm yet humanly warm leader, and a fearless warrior.

Starting Point: Beginning of the original story

Morvenn Vahl

Age: 47

Gender: Female

Characteristics: Abbess of the Convent. Appointed as a political figurehead, but actually established herself as a powerful military leader.

Starting Point: Beginning of the original story

Go directly.

Setting: 25-year-old Psyker belonging to the Ultramarines

Starting Point: Beginning of the original story

"Wow... ’Morvenn Vahl’..."

If I started as Morvenn Vahl, I could command the entire Adepta Sororitas, the Battle Sisters, and gather all the Sisters in one place to acquire their abilities at once.

’If I did that, would all the Sisters whose mental strength I took be sent to the Sister Repentia?’

That would be funny, but I still wasn’t keen on going as a woman.

Since I wanted to see Titus anyway, I chose ’Go Directly’ and adjusted the starting point slightly.

Setting: 25-year-old Guardsman belonging to the Cadian 8th Regiment

Starting Point: Cadaku Defense

(Points: 0)

The reason I chose a Guardsman was simple.

In the Warhammer universe, whether it’s a Space Marine, a Psyker, or a Tech-Priest, all humans undergo some form of augmentation, but Guardsmen, the lowest-ranking soldiers, are ordinary people who receive little to no augmentation.

And the starting point of Space Marine 2 is before Titus undergoes the ’Rubicon Primaris’ surgery, when he was serving in the Deathwatch, a Chapter specializing in xenos combat, due to heresy accusations.

So I needed to adjust the setting for a quicker start.

[Proceed with these settings?]

"Yes."

As soon as I confirmed, the air around me was filled with the smell of gunpowder and burning flesh.

Gunfire echoed from all directions, mixed with the roar of exploding shells, and acrid smoke covered the battlefield.

In front of me, Tyranids that looked like Zerg were charging in like mad.

The uniform I was wearing was a dark green military fatigues, and it had been worn so long that even I grimaced at my own sweat smell.

"Hey, Jin! Snap out of it! What are you doing!"

The other guardsmen were busy firing from the trench, and since I had been standing still for a moment to assess the situation, a guy who looked like a comrade next to me shouted at me to get it together.

"I’m fine now, don’t worry!"

I didn’t see any Space Marines nearby, so I just raised my lasgun and started firing at the Tyranids charging from the front.

Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump!

What was interesting was that the weapon I was holding was a lasgun—a laser weapon, not a firearm that used gunpowder.

Ammunition was practically unlimited as long as the battery didn’t run out, but its rate of fire wasn’t great because it needed to charge energy momentarily before firing.

However, its power was significant, feeling stronger than modern live-round rifles, and the recoil was light.

Aside from the battery underneath being a bit heavy, it was light and well-balanced, making it easy to use.

The only disappointing part was that the gun itself was too bulky and ugly.

Also, I realized after firing continuously that even though the power was decent, it couldn’t inflict fatal wounds on some Tyranid organisms.

’Ah, if I could just upgrade it a little, it would be a really good weapon...’

I had complaints, but I couldn’t modify the weapon here, so I just endured and kept firing.

Besides, illegal modification was punishable by death.

I decided not to cause any trouble until the Space Marines arrived.

If I messed up, support might not come.

After holding the line for a while, aside from a few Tyranids that looked like Zerglings (Hormagaunts) charging in, the enemy attacks thinned out, and the front stabilized.

A figure that looked like an officer appeared and tossed something to the Guardsmen, saying.

"The enemy could attack again at any time, so meals will be replaced with ration packs! No complaints!"

I checked what he had thrown.

It was a plastic pouch like a 3-minute curry, with the Imperial Eagle on it and the label [Operational Ration Pack, Fish Flavor].

"Whoa! Lucky me. I got rodent flavor!"

When the Guardsman next to me shouted that, a young Guardsman who looked like a rookie asked the Guardsman beside him.

"Why are you so happy you got rodent flavor? Both taste like crap, don’t they?"

"Heh, don’t say things like that. You could be arrested as a heretic. Anyway, I grew up eating rats. I know what they taste like. This definitely tastes like rat."

"So it really has rat meat in it?"

"Yes. I’ve never had real fish, so I wouldn’t know, but there’s no way they’d give us precious fish. They probably use chemicals to mimic the taste. So it’s better to eat something that tastes like a rat than a lump of chemicals."

"Ah, I see..."

I listened to this insane conversation while opening my ration pack.

Inside was a cement-like paste that smelled disgusting.

I used [Naked Eye] to check the ingredients: 20% chemicals, 40% grains, and the remaining 40% were unknown proteins.

It was probably the corpse starch I’d only heard rumors about.

In the end, the rodent and fish flavors were practically the same thing.

’Wow... this place really isn’t a place to stay long.’

As expected, this universe, unless you’re going to make a big splash, wasn’t suitable for a casual visit.

Anyway, everyone started tearing open their packs to eat, and I couldn’t not eat with people watching.

So I used [Matter Manipulation] to turn the contents entirely into water, then pretended to eat it and got by.

After the meal, the Guardsmen were resting, smoking or chatting, when an officer suddenly shouted.

"Enemy!"

At that shout, everyone grabbed their weapons and looked toward the front line, where the Tyranids were charging in such numbers that the first attack seemed like a joke.

The enemies that attacked first must have been a vanguard or scouts.

Also, flying creatures like Mutalisks were buzzing around—likely Tyranid Gargoyles.

Thump, thump, thump! Zing—! Kaboom!! Bang!!

Kyaaah!!

"Damn it! There are too many!"

"Just keep shooting!"

"Aaaargh!"

At first, we held the line, but the front slowly started to crumble, and we began to fall back.

I started thinking we might need to retreat, and glanced at the commanders in the rear, but they showed no intention of ordering a withdrawal.

Some Guardsmen, unable to overcome their fear, started fleeing one by one, but those who ran were shot without mercy by the officers in the back.

"Hold the line!!! Give your lives for the Emperor!!!"

’Hah... just like the fanatics they are.’

The one saving grace was that my position was further back, so it would take time for the enemy to reach us, and reinforcements kept coming in small numbers.

Then, something appeared in the sky.

At first I thought it was a cloud, but soon I realized it was a massive Tyranid ship—a Hive Ship.

It was constantly dropping something to the ground, presumably Tyranid forces.

At this rate, the front would collapse soon.

Just then, I saw blue dropships descending from the sky.

The Space Marines had finally arrived as reinforcements.

’Finally here. Now I don’t need to play Guardsman anymore.’

Space Marines are the living weapons of the Imperium in the Warhammer universe, beings that transcend ordinary humans through dozens of genetic modifications and surgical procedures, guided by the Emperor’s will.

They also undergo thorough mental training and indoctrination, much like in North Korea, giving them exceptional mental fortitude and loyalty.

That’s why I had come to get mental abilities from them.

I stopped firing, used [Life Magic] to clean myself up, changed into a suit I liked using the Nanobuckle, and let the armor I was wearing disappear without a trace using [Matter Manipulation].

When I suddenly changed like that, all the Guardsmen stopped fighting and stared at me.

"Wh, what... Jin, what is this..."

I took a Jamaican patty out of my inventory and put it in the mouth of the Guardsman who had spoken to me earlier.

"Eat it. That’s real food."

Then I levitated into the sky and, using [Telekinesis], gathered all the Tyranids visible on the battlefield in an instant and incinerated them with [Blazing Fruit].

Since Tyranids are organic organisms produced in factories like mass-produced goods, this was a significant blow to them.

Kyaaaaaaah—!!!

"Th, this can’t be..."

"To think such an unbelievable psychic existed..."

"Was he sent by the Emperor?"

The Guardsmen murmured in amazement at the sight, and some even put down their guns and suddenly started praying.

Their prayers weren’t directed at me, but they believed everything was the Emperor’s blessing and offered thanks.

’That’s a bit bitter.’

Then, bullets came flying from behind, but they stopped and exploded before reaching me.

I had done that with [Telekinesis].

"Identify yourself, Psyker!!!"

Turning around, six Space Marines were pointing their guns at me and shouting.

Those explosive rounds that had just flown in were fired by them.

I slowly floated down and landed in front of them.

Up close, Space Marines were definitely huge.

"I’m 190 cm, which is pretty tall, but I can’t compare to Space Marines. Anyway, nice to meet you, Titus. And next to you must be Gadriel and Chairon?"

"How do you know our names... Chaos!?"

"No, I’ve never even seen Chaos. I’ve only been here about five hours. I came from a different world. To put it simply in your terms, I guess you could call me a xenos."

At that, the other Marines were surprised, and Titus frowned.

"Arrogant heretic! Do you think we’ll be fooled by such nonsense? Atone with your death!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Titus said that and immediately opened fire.

As expected, fanatics don’t listen to reason.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

But the explosive rounds just stopped in midair and exploded.

Titus then drew his chainsword and tried to strike me down, but it stopped before reaching me.

I always had the [Unlimited] spell active.

"Enough. Those attacks won’t work on me."

Even though I said that, Titus and the Marines tried to attack again, so I used [Telekinesis] to restrain them in place.

"Ugh!"

They knew they couldn’t win, but they didn’t know how to give up.

Their mental fortitude was certainly impressive.

I started absorbing abilities, starting with the unnamed Marines.

Seeing that, the Guardsmen rushed in to try something, but when I used [Conqueror’s Haki] appropriately and glared at them, they only trembled and couldn’t do anything.

"Kyaaaaaaah!"

Ding~!

[[(B) Strong Mind], [(C) Efficient Body] abilities absorbed.]

[[(B) Strong Mind] absorbed into [(SS) Strong Mind].]

"Oh! I didn’t expect this."

Luckily, I was able to absorb two abilities at once.

But there was a problem: perhaps because the [Efficient Body] ability was taken, the Marine who was absorbed was dying in agony.

So I used [Effortless Transformation] to save him for the time being.

I checked how much the [(EX) Sentry Serum] ability had increased, and it had only gone up by 20 from 2000.

That meant I had to do this up to 180 more times.

’Wow... this is insane.’

I absorbed abilities from all the Space Marines, including Titus in front of me, and roughly saved them as before.

Titus had an additional ability: [(A) Psychic Resistance], which was absorbed into [(SS) Magic Resistance].

"Damn... what have you done to us!!"

"I took what I needed. There’s still more, so just wait a bit."

Titus asked me, trembling, and I answered, then used [Matter Copy] to duplicate their weapons and store them in my inventory.

They were too big for me to use, but collecting weapons from games I enjoyed had a special meaning.

"Look at the phone, Titus, and smile for a good picture. Hehe! Don’t frown, smile!"

"Damn it! This humiliation... Emperor... ugh!"
