Chapter 414: 414 MCU 89
The plan was simple: T’Challa would don the Black Panther suit to draw their attention and focus their firepower, and while he did, the Jabari tribe would stay hidden and then storm in. Once the battle started and chaos ensued, Shuri, Nakia, and Everett would use the commotion to retake the underground research lab.
Once the plan was set, T’Challa immediately departed with the Jabari warriors.
Shuri, Nakia, and Everett moved separately to infiltrate the lab.
I, of course, accompanied the Jabari tribe.
Arriving at the palace, we hid and observed the situation.
Contrary to expectations, they weren’t preparing to sell weapons but were preparing for war.
It was clear from the multiple Russian-made ’T-14 Armata tanks’ visible, though I didn’t know where they got them.
They seemed to plan on first conquering nearby nations to build up their strength.
’They must have changed their plans because of what I said.’
What was unusual was that W’Kabi, the leader of the Border Tribe, was constantly trying to persuade Killmonger.
"We should use the ’Irinou (Rhinoceros)’ instead of these outdated tanks!"
"How can you use rhinos in a war! You don’t know the importance of tanks because you’ve only lived here. Just watch. Tanks will be much faster than those rhinos."
From what I heard, they were debating whether to use Wakanda’s war rhinos or not.
But I couldn’t understand why W’Kabi was so insistent on using rhinos in the war.
’Is it because of symbolism?’
In a tradition-oriented country like Wakanda, that might be the case.
What was funny was that M’Baku, hiding next to me, seemed quite relieved after hearing the conversation.
"Phew... I’m glad they’re not using the Irinou."
"Huh? Aren’t tanks better? Why are you relieved?"
When I asked, M’Baku looked at me as if I were hopeless.
"You clearly have no idea how terrifying the Irinou are."
Just then, T’Challa interrupted us.
"We’re starting, so stop the chatter. When I’ve drawn enough attention, support me."
"Alright..."
I was disappointed I didn’t get to hear the reason, but given the situation, I decided to ask later.
With that instruction, T’Challa circled around and appeared before Killmonger, who was preparing for war.
In the original, he made a cool entrance by destroying a transport ship, but that wasn’t here, so it was a bit disappointing.
Still, he walked confidently and called out Killmonger, so it wasn’t too bad.
"Yibambe!!!"
When T’Challa suddenly appeared and shouted Killmonger’s name, the soldiers preparing for war, the Border Tribe, and the Dora Milaje gathered with Killmonger in front of the palace.
The Dora Milaje looked surprised or smiled happily at T’Challa’s survival, but W’Kabi and Killmonger regarded him seriously.
"I have not surrendered!!! And as you can see, I am not dead!!!"
"Welcome! The duel is over! I am the king now!!!"
Killmonger shouted that and ordered W’Kabi next to him.
"W’Kabi, kill that clown."
But Okoye, W’Kabi’s wife and the general of the Dora Milaje, quickly stopped him.
"W’Kabi, you heard him! The duel isn’t over yet!"
When W’Kabi hesitated, one of the Border Tribe members asked, "What do we do, Chief?"
W’Kabi, seeming to make up his mind, shouted loudly.
"Border Tribe!"
Ooh! Ooh!
"Attack!"
Raaaah!!!
At W’Kabi’s command, the Border Tribe drew their swords, shouted their war cries, and charged at T’Challa.
Ultimately, W’Kabi and the Border Tribe had decided to follow Killmonger.
Watching them, T’Challa signaled us when the Border Tribe reached a favorable position for us to strike.
"Jin! M’Baku! Now!"
Ooh! Ooh! Ooh!
At his signal, M’Baku and the Jabari tribe revealed themselves with gorilla-like cries and began attacking the Border Tribe.
The Border Tribe, surprised by the sudden appearance of the Jabari warriors, were unable to respond effectively.
I also joined the fight, but thinking they would eventually be allies, I held back and only subdued them.
Thump! Smack! Whack!
As the Border Tribe began to falter, Killmonger, sensing the disadvantage, started deploying Wakandan fighters and T-14 Armata tanks that had been waiting in reserve.
It was an order that showed no regard for the lives of the Border Tribe members who were fighting.
Okoye, watching this, frowned and said to Killmonger.
"Your heart is filled with hatred, and you’re driving your own people into danger! You are not fit to be king!"
Okoye struck the ground twice with her spear and aimed it at Killmonger.
The Dora Milaje, agreeing with her, all aimed their spears without hesitation.
Killmonger, in turn, took a fighting stance against the Dora Milaje.
His necklace then automatically began forming the Black Panther suit from Vibranium nanoparticles.
"Taking a gentler approach because this is my homeland was my mistake. Iron-fisted rule was the answer..."
Okoye sighed and ordered the Dora Milaje behind her.
"Go and stop those tanks!"
At her command, most of the Dora Milaje moved to stop the tanks, while a few remained to face Killmonger with Okoye.
Meanwhile, the advancing tanks began firing cannons and machine guns indiscriminately at friend and foe alike.
Killmonger’s men were probably piloting them.
I quickly used Eldritch Magic to create a magical shield to block the attacks, and the Wakandan warriors, seeing this, also deployed their kinetic shields to block the incoming shells and bullets.
While we held the line, the Dora Milaje who had flanked behind began attacking the tanks from the rear with energy blasts from their spears, destroying them.
The power of the Dora Milaje’s energy spears was surprisingly significant.
Tanks would have been no match for the Avengers either, but seeing them rendered useless, I felt pity rather than relief.
A single Wakandan warrior had taken on a tank.
At first, the fighters, along with the tanks, rained down energy blasts to break through our shields, but a sudden attack from T’Challa’s ship, the ’Royal Talon Fighter,’ engaged them in an aerial battle.
Shuri and the others must have secured the lab and were remotely piloting the Royal Talon Fighter to help us.
"W’Kabi, stop! Can you still support Killmonger after seeing this? Look! Look at the king you supported! The tanks are attacking us, friend and foe alike!"
"It’s better than staying like this without any change! Eventually, outside forces will attack us first. It’s better to have a strong king and strike first before we’re struck!"
T’Challa tried to persuade W’Kabi, but W’Kabi, who had lost his father to Ulysses Klaue, who attacked Wakanda to steal Vibranium, refused to back down.
W’Kabi, seeing no other way, suddenly climbed onto a rock and blew the horn at his waist.
"No!"
T’Challa urgently tried to stop him, but it seemed too late.
Then, the ground trembled, and massive rhinos, clad in Vibranium armor, came charging in.
The funny thing was, they ran straight through the tanks blocking their path, treating them like wooden toys, crushing or flipping them.
One tank fired a shell at a rhino, but the rhino took the direct hit and kept going.
Then, in an angry charge, it rammed the massive tank, flipping it and turning it into scrap metal.
It was an unbelievable sight unfolding before my eyes.
"Oh my god..."
I watched in utter amazement.
I never imagined Wakanda’s war rhinos could be that powerful.
Now M’Baku’s words made sense.
"The Irinou are coming!!! Everyone be careful!!!"
"Damn!"
"Get out of the way!!!"
At the Jabari tribe’s shouts, I snapped out of it and stood in front of the charging rhino.
As it rushed toward me, trying to impale me with its horn, I sidestepped slightly, grabbed the horn, and pulled it toward me, disrupting its center of gravity.
Unable to overcome its own momentum, the rhino tumbled and rolled across the ground.
A beast is a beast, after all.
"Oof!"
Crash, bang, boom!!!
The Wakandan war rhinos were much larger and bulkier than ordinary rhinos, making it look like a massive boulder rolling across the ground.
’Wow... I hope it’s not hurt. If used well, these rhinos could be a great asset in the war against Thanos...’
There were still a few more rampaging, so I put my worries aside and went to deal with the next rhino.
Thud!!!
I either lightly jumped and pinned the rhino’s head to the ground, or used Eldritch Magic to create a whip and trip their legs, subduing them one by one.
Meanwhile, a loud crash indicated that Okoye and the Dora Milaje fighting Killmonger had been sent flying.
He had probably used his Vibranium suit to absorb kinetic energy and released it all at once, using it like the Black Panther.
I glanced at T’Challa, but he was just as busy as me, subduing rhinos.
So I moved to face Killmonger instead.
With only two rhinos left, they could handle them.
When I arrived, Killmonger raised his hand and spoke.
"I don’t want to fight the Avengers yet. This is Wakanda’s business, so you have no reason to get involved."
"You were preparing for war with other countries, weren’t you? Then it’s our business too. And like you said, ’yet’ is the key. After you’ve taken over one country at a time and built up your power, you’ll eventually prepare to fight us, won’t you?"
He sighed, admitting I was right.
"As expected, you’re not easy to fool... Fine! It’s not a bad idea to see how strong the Avengers are ahead of time."
With that exchange, Killmonger took his stance, extended his hands, revealing his claws, and charged at me with blinding speed.
Bang!!! Crash!!!
"Ugh!!!"
I chuckled, clenched my fist, and timed it perfectly as he came at me, slamming it down.
The blow drove him straight into the ground, the concrete floor cracking loudly as his body was half buried.
Because I had hit him so hard, the impact energy exceeded what the Vibranium could store, and it exploded upon contact with the ground, but it didn’t affect me at all.
"You seem confident just because you ate some herb and put on a Vibranium suit. That’s a big mistake. We’ve faced much worse monsters than you. What can you do with just Super Soldier-level strength anyway?"
"Keheok..."
I clicked my tongue and said that, but Killmonger was too winded from the blow to even respond.
I slowly approached him, used [Hacking] to revert the Vibranium suit back to its necklace form, and removed it from his neck.
Thankfully, while the suit had torn his clothes, his underwear remained intact, saving me from an eyeful.
"Th, this can’t be... the Avengers are this powerful..."
Nakia and Shuri, who had arrived without me noticing, watched the scene with shocked expressions.
"Let’s secure Killmonger first. And we need to let everyone know. That he’s been subdued."
"Right. That’ll prevent further casualties."
Following Shuri’s and Nakia’s advice, I restrained Killmonger and shouted loud enough for everyone to hear.
"Killmonger has been subdued!"
At that, W’Kabi, who had been resisting, and the entire Border Tribe dropped their weapons and knelt.
Upon hearing that Killmonger was subdued, they seemed to give up resistance.
T’Challa rushed over to us and checked on Killmonger.
His jaw was completely shattered, and half his teeth were missing, making conversation impossible.
Maybe I had been a bit too rough.
But it couldn’t be helped.
He was wearing a Vibranium suit, and with the changed circumstances from the original, if Shuri or Nakia had died at Killmonger’s hands, I had no idea how T’Challa would have changed.
So I had to subdue him quickly.
"...Shuri, treat him."
"Wha, what!? He’s the enemy..."
"Still, we need to be able to communicate to hold him accountable or put him on trial. In his current state, we can’t do anything."
"I suppose you’re right..."
