Chapter 412: 412 MCU 87

There was truly nothing to do in the Wakandan quarters. Even turning on the TV only showed local Wakandan broadcasts—nothing interesting. At least the view from the window was nice.

’This place is really boring... Are they expecting me to just sleep?’

So I told the female guard at the door that I’d like to look around the village for a bit and stepped outside. No guide accompanied me. I walked through the market in Wakanda’s capital—it felt so foreign that I could almost believe I was on another planet.

Most people wore traditional African clothing, and the buildings didn’t look particularly flashy or developed on the surface. Yet there were flying vehicles and buses in the sky, and people casually used bracelet-shaped communication devices with holographic displays.

Moreover, the people generally looked neat, and the streets were very clean. The unfamiliarity I felt probably came from the jarring coexistence of futuristic advanced technology with the atmosphere of a giant African tribal village.

’Feeling this out of place makes me realize I might have some unconscious biases.’

One interesting thing was that the vegetables and meat sold at the market contained trace amounts of vibranium. That might be why Wakandan warriors were stronger than ordinary humans.

After an interesting tour of Wakanda’s market, I returned to the palace. A guard approached and informed me it was mealtime, guiding me to the dining hall. There, T’Challa, his mother Ramonda, his sister Shuri, and the recovered UN agent Everett Ross were all present.

Everett Ross stared at me in surprise, his eyes practically saying, "What are you doing here?"

"Queen Ramonda, it’s an honor to meet you. I’m Jin of the Avengers."

"Oh~ So you’re the one Shuri’s been interested in. Nice to meet you."

Shuri looked flustered.

"That’s not true. Besides, I heard he already has a girlfriend."

"Just because there’s a goalkeeper doesn’t mean you can’t score."

"Hah... Honestly... Let’s just eat."

T’Challa and Ramonda laughed at the scene. They seemed to be teasing Shuri because they enjoyed seeing her flustered.

"What are you doing here?"

Everett, sitting next to me, asked quietly as the meal began.

"That’s what I’d like to know. And speaking of which—why is no one taking responsibility for the mess in Busan? When the Avengers cause even minor damage during operations, we get protested and arrested."

Everett looked very flustered.

"Well... ahem... T’Challa is the king of Wakanda, so..."

"That’s a terrible excuse! Is the UN trying to pick a fight with us? The Avengers have compensated for every bit of damage and casualty during our operations. Do you think we’re pushovers? Bilbo, I didn’t think you were like this—isn’t this too much?"

"Th-that’s not it... but who’s Bilbo..."

As Everett looked embarrassed, T’Challa, who had been listening, spoke up.

"Ah, I’ll take responsibility and compensate for the Busan incident."

"It’s not about compensation. It’s about the UN’s attitude toward the Avengers. Why are they so lenient with others but apply such strict standards to us?"

T’Challa pondered my words for a moment, then nodded.

"That is a problem. If I recall correctly, the Avengers have prevented several global crises. It’s clearly unfair to deny them cooperation while applying standards to them that aren’t applied to others."

Then Ramonda explained the reason.

"They’re afraid. Afraid of the power they themselves don’t possess. If Wakanda becomes fully active in the international community, we’ll likely face similar scrutiny and surveillance. Perhaps that’s inevitable."

"That’s unfortunate."

Everett, as if he were the UN representative, couldn’t lift his head.

After the meal, Shuri gave me a tour of Wakanda’s research lab. Scientists were conducting various studies, and what caught my eye was a suit made of nanoparticles.

"This is a suit made of vibranium."

"That’s right. It’s made of nanoparticles, so it can be stored in a necklace and also absorb and release impact energy. It’s my masterpiece."

Shuri said proudly, but I transformed the suit I was wearing into jeans and a Hawaiian shirt using my nanobuckle. She looked at me in astonishment.

"Incredible... It’s already been developed. And you can even transform it into different forms... Is the material vibranium?"

"Yes. Vibranium isn’t exclusive to Wakanda."

"That’s true. Anyway, that’s impressive. I feel embarrassed for boasting. So what my brother said about Avengers technology possibly being superior to ours was true."

There was a reason I showed off this technology—so that even if I used it, Wakanda wouldn’t mistakenly think I’d stolen it from them.

"Transforming into other forms... That gave me a great idea. With a bit more research, I should be able to apply it soon. I can wear it as casual clothing and transform it into combat gear on the spot, without having to discard my outfit. Should I pay you a patent fee?"

"No need. You developed it yourself without knowing we already had the technology. Let’s just forget about it. And I’ll give you the transformation suit technology for free."

"Really?! That’s very generous of you."

Shuri was delighted. But actually, this was technology she would have developed on her own in the future. So I decided to share it ahead of time as a gesture of goodwill to strengthen ties with Wakanda.

I spent time teaching Shuri about the technology, and it got late, so I returned to my quarters and rested.

The next day, I heard that the elders had gathered to judge the people I’d captured. Ross and I attended as observers.

The venue was more like a conference room than a courtroom. A large chair sat at the front, surrounded by smaller chairs arranged in a circle—ideal for group discussion.

When Ross and I arrived, Dora Milaje guards stationed in a corner guided us to our seats. We sat quietly, waiting for the meeting to begin. The elders arrived one by one and took their assigned seats—it was clear from their distinct appearances that they represented Wakanda’s various tribes.

"The King enters."

Everyone stood, and we followed suit. The doors opened, and T’Challa’s family entered. T’Challa took the central throne, with Ramonda and Shuri seated nearby.

"Let the trial begin."

At T’Challa’s words, a Dora Milaje sent a signal, and soon Klaue, Killmonger, and their men were brought in.

T’Challa stood and began listing their crimes. Klaue sighed and closed his eyes, anticipating death. Killmonger stood proudly.

"Following the previous theft that cost Wakandan lives, this incident has also resulted in many casualties. Therefore, I sentence them all to death!"

But then Killmonger spoke loudly.

"I am a Wakandan citizen, and I only intended to return the vibranium that was illegally taken!"

Klaue stared at Killmonger with a look that said, "What the hell is he talking about?" The elders began murmuring. T’Challa asked Killmonger,

"Can you prove that?"

Killmonger shook his restrained hands and said,

"If you release these, I won’t do anything unnecessary."

T’Challa signaled the Dora Milaje, who removed Killmonger’s cuffs.

As Killmonger rubbed his wrists casually, T’Challa pressed him,

"The proof?"

Killmonger then flipped his lip to reveal the War Dog tattoo—a blue-tinged mark made with trace amounts of vibranium, impossible to forge. It was essentially a Wakandan ID card.

T’Challa and most of those present were shocked.

"Unbelievable... Shuri, check if any missing person matches this."

T’Challa tried to verify immediately, but Killmonger waved it off and began telling his story.

"I was abandoned. A Wakandan who lost his father and grew up alone in America."

"Who was your father?"

"My father was Prince N’Jobu of Wakanda—T’Chaka’s brother!"

Everyone was shocked. Ramonda snapped,

"Liar!"

"It’s not a lie, Aunt."

Killmonger removed his necklace, revealing a distinctive ring attached to it.

"This ring proves my royal lineage. You can’t pretend not to recognize it—it’s passed down only to royalty."

Ramonda took the ring through a Dora Milaje and examined it carefully, trying to prove Killmonger was lying, but it was no use. The ring was unmistakably genuine.

Killmonger looked around at the Wakandans calmly and said,

"Everyone looks comfortable. Must be nice. Two billion people who look like us struggle around the world. My father worked hard to use Wakanda’s power to help our oppressed brothers and sisters worldwide. But he was purged by the Panther’s claws simply for having a different opinion!"

He then glared at T’Challa and shouted,

"You’re not a king—you’re the son of a murderer! As a royal, I challenge the king to become the Black Panther!"

The elders began murmuring again.

"As Prince N’Jobu’s son, he has the right."

"But to challenge now..."

T’Challa, looking troubled, rubbed his forehead in deep thought. Ross, sitting beside me, nudged me and whispered,

"Are you just going to sit there? From what I’ve heard, he seems quite radical. If he becomes king, war might break out."

"This is their matter. It’s not our place to intervene just because we don’t like it."

"That’s true... but... hah..."

Everett Ross knew I was right, so he didn’t press further. As outsiders, we had no right to choose another nation’s king.

After much deliberation, T’Challa looked at Killmonger and said,

"Very well. I accept your challenge."

Ramonda and Shuri tried to stop him, but it was no use. T’Challa seemed to have judged that Killmonger’s claim was valid. Meanwhile, Klaue, watching everything, smiled, thinking he might survive after all.

When the meeting ended, the prisoners were sent back to their cells, while Killmonger was moved to separate quarters—treated as royalty. Ross and I also returned to our quarters to rest. On the way back, Ross kept sighing deeply, worried about what was to come.

The next day, the elders and people gathered at the waterfall for Killmonger’s challenge, but I didn’t go. I was told it was a Wakandan ritual and outsiders couldn’t observe.

’Probably because of the herb’s secret.’

I created a clone to stay in my quarters, used [Stealth] to turn invisible, and phased through the walls with [Density Control]. Then I used [Jack Sparrow’s Compass] to locate the Heart-Shaped Herb and headed to the waterfall where the duel would take place.

The reason I hadn’t taken the herb earlier was that I thought T’Challa might still win—the original had diverged. By the time I arrived, the duel was in full swing. T’Challa and Killmonger were locked in a fierce, bloody battle.

CLANG! CLING! CLANG!

But from what I could see, T’Challa was hesitating. Probably because Killmonger’s father, N’Jobu, had been killed by his own father—he wanted to at least spare N’Jobu’s son, N’Jadaka (Killmonger).

’That’s a bit ridiculous. The same guy who gleefully slaughtered Hydra operatives to avenge his father is now so soft-hearted.’

After all, family and his people mattered most to T’Challa.

STAB!

"Guh!"

In the end, just like in the original, Killmonger’s spear struck T’Challa in the abdomen, and he fell into the waterfall.

"I am your king now."

As Killmonger declared himself king, Nakia quickly evacuated Ramonda and Shuri—she judged they wouldn’t be safe under Killmonger. The Dora Milaje, having witnessed this, had no choice but to salute Killmonger in the Wakandan style.

But Killmonger showed no interest in that—he immediately went to the Heart-Shaped Herb site to undergo the Black Panther ritual.

While Killmonger drank the ground herb mixture and rested in the soil, I used [Telekinesis] to quietly uproot the healthiest herbs, roots and all, and stored them in my inventory.

Interestingly, Nakia was also sneaking in from the other side to take one.

After finishing my business here, I returned to my clone—it wasn’t in the quarters but in the Talarian with Ramonda, Shuri, and Ross, hiding in the forest outside the city. I signaled the clone to step out, dismissed it, and reboarded.

Checking the clone’s memories, Nakia had brought them here because Killmonger had seized power and it was too dangerous to stay. They believed T’Challa was dead, and their expressions were grim.

Ross spoke up,

"Instead of staying here, why not go to the UN headquarters or the Avengers base? We can protect the Queen and Princess."

Shuri immediately objected,

"No! If we royal family leave, Wakanda will fall completely into Killmonger’s hands. I don’t trust the UN—maybe the Avengers, but not the UN."

Ross sighed.

"Hah... How did the UN’s image get so bad..."

"You reap what you sow."

I chuckled, and Ross gulped down his drink, as if parched.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!

Someone knocked on the Talarian—Nakia had returned. She immediately briefed them on the current situation.

"After Killmonger became the Black Panther, he burned all the herbs. I managed to sneak one away. Also, the Border Tribe, led by W’Kabi, is actively supporting Killmonger, and he’s released all the prisoners to use as his personal army. He handed Klaue over to W’Kabi for execution. That’s probably why the Border Tribe supports him."

This was because during Klaue’s previous vibranium theft in Wakanda, W’Kabi’s father had been killed. The Border Tribe bore a deep grudge against Klaue, and in the end, Klaue—who had believed he might survive—lost his life.

"What about General Okoye?"

"Okoye said it was a legitimate duel and she must follow the new king..."

"I see... Still, it’s a relief that you managed to save one herb..."

Ramonda frowned, rubbing her forehead. Ross asked,

"What exactly is this herb?"

Nakia explained, and given the circumstances, she didn’t hide it.

"It enhances physical abilities when consumed. That’s why T’Challa, as the Black Panther, was so strong."

"I see."

"I think we should give it to M’Baku and use the Jabari Tribe’s power to resolve this. M’Baku would be better than Killmonger as king."

The Jabari Tribe, a warlike tribe that had resisted the unified rule and settled in the mountains, was led by M’Baku, who had once challenged T’Challa but lost.

After Nakia shared her thoughts, Ramonda said,

"Nakia, I’m not comfortable with that. What if we give it to M’Baku and he becomes a worse monster? I’d rather you take it."

"I’m just a spy—I don’t have an army. I’m not qualified."

"Then what about you? I’ve heard you’re an excellent leader and warrior. I’d like you to take the herb and challenge Killmonger."

Ramonda suddenly turned to me and made that unexpected proposal.

"I’m an outsider—I can’t participate in Wakanda’s succession."

"True, you’re an outsider, but if you marry my daughter, you won’t be."

"What?! What are you talking about..."

"Why, is my daughter not to your liking?"

"This isn’t about liking or not—I already have a partner. I think you’re speaking out of desperation. Perhaps you should calm down and think more carefully."

Ramonda sighed deeply.

"You’re right. I was being too hasty."

Just as a story about almost marrying a Wakandan princess was about to become a new anecdote, I looked at Shuri—she wasn’t even trying to stop her mother, but rather blushing and flustered.
