Chapter 345: Chapter 345: Severing the Father-Daughter Relationship

In the living room, Fiona Vaughn and Tyson Law sat to the right of the main table. She smiled softly, exuding warmth and modesty.

"Dad, you’re teasing Fiona again, and what if it’s a girl? Wouldn’t you love her just the same..."

Gregory Vaughn inherently favored boys over girls; if Evan Vaughn weren’t a sickly, heart-diseased child, he probably wouldn’t have loved Fiona this much.

Fiona Vaughn was more aware of this than anyone else. Certainly, the child might not even be Tyson Law’s, and whether it could be born was another matter altogether; she was merely putting on a show.

Gregory Vaughn didn’t detect Fiona’s little schemes. He cheerfully downed a glass and clinked it against Tyson Law’s.

"Son-in-law, look, I just casually mentioned it, and Fiona dared to retort to me, her grandfather."

"Girls are good too, smart and beautiful ones always find people eager to love them."

Tyson Law also tenderly embraced Fiona Vaughn here, generously making a promise.

"Yes, you’re right, Father-in-law. Actually, I also like boys, and of course, girls are good too. Fiona, as long as it’s our child, how could I not love them?"

As long as it’s her and Tyson Law’s child?

Fiona Vaughn’s hand trembled instantly, her smile froze for a second. With a guilty conscience, she almost didn’t dare to meet Tyson Law’s eyes.

—The high-end private gynecological hospital has been contacted, and Tyson Law’s complete hair sample is received. This weekend, she’ll go for the amniocentesis DNA test; hopefully, the situation will be straightforward.

"Tyson, I knew you treat me the best."

Fiona Vaughn took a deep breath, striving to maintain an elegant smile, while refilling Tyson Law’s wine glass.

Suddenly, the dining table erupted with joyous noises. Tyson Law seemed to remember something and asked Gregory Vaughn with concern.

"Father-in-law, how have things been at Radiant Group recently? Have you experienced any exclusion?"

"Don’t mention it!"

Gregory Vaughn got upset at the thought of Cecilia Vaughn’s actions, his previously cheerful expression dampened.

"That damned girl, Cecilia Vaughn, since she took President post at Radiant Group, demoted me to a branch office. If it weren’t for the 8% shares I hold, Fiona’s mom might have to eat dirt with me."

Tyson Law was utterly shocked.

"Cecilia, she’s that ruthless?"

Fiona Vaughn nodded sadly.

"Yeah, sister’s way out of line! For years, father has been in charge of Radiant Group. Without him, Radiant Group would’ve collapsed long ago. Sister hasn’t contributed a bit to the company, yet she comes out and snatches father’s position."

Florence Warner, just out of the kitchen with dishes, heard their conversation and felt indignant.

"They say the world is vast, but parents are supreme. Cecilia Vaughn really lacks manners, being so harsh towards her parents. Tyson, there aren’t many kind and filial children like our Fiona, you’ve got to cherish her."

"For sure, Mom. Stop tending to things, let the servants bring the dishes, sit down."

...

Cecilia Vaughn stood outside the entrance hall, listening to the discussions inside. Her heart couldn’t help but fill with irony.

She justifiably reclaimed the Sutton’s family business, yet is cursed as a thankless wretch. How unfair can this world be!

Cecilia Vaughn’s hand trembled slightly. Adrian Law sensed the intense emotions beside him. He wrapped her shoulder, speaking loud and clear.

"What a lively family feast, I guess Cecilia and I returned at the right moment."

Adrian Law held Cecilia Vaughn’s hand, stepping into the living room step by step.

...

The people at the dining table, seeing Cecilia Vaughn and Adrian Law, were instantly stunned.

Especially Tyson Law, he hadn’t seen Cecilia Vaughn for a long time. Seeing her stand calmly beside his elder brother right now made his heart ache inexplicably.

"Cecilia..."

Earlier, he could join Gregory Vaughn in condemning Cecilia Vaughn’s unfilial conduct. Yet now, seeing Cecilia so quiet, cuddling Adrian Law like a shy woman, it made him feel inexplicably sad.

—Perhaps most men in this world are that cheap. The unattainable is always restless, while the favored ones act with impunity.

Fiona Vaughn noticed Tyson Law’s eyes glued on Cecilia Vaughn, her heart instantly screamed warnings.

She tugged on Tyson Law a bit with grievance, then stood up seemingly pleasantly surprised, smiling slightly at Cecilia Vaughn and Adrian Law.

"Sister, Mr. Law, you’re here, what a coincidence. Sister hasn’t been home for over three years, Dad and Mom just mentioned you. Sister, come and sit, have lunch together."

Florence Warner heard her daughter’s words and immediately snorted disdainfully.

"Cecilia Vaughn, you dare come to the old mansion still! A cold-hearted woman like you, aren’t you afraid of dirtying the living room’s floor!"

She then displayed the manner of Vaughn’s family matriarch, glancing unkindly at Cecilia Vaughn in Adrian Law’s arm, suddenly nodding as if in realization.

"You and The Eldest Young Master Law came back because there’s a custom in Stellerton of a newlywed bride visiting her maiden home, right?"

She knew it must be something significant enough to bring Adrian Law to personally escort this little minx back!

The Law family is a prestigious family, emphasizing customs, even if Cecilia Vaughn didn’t hold a wedding, she couldn’t ignore her maiden home!

"Though visiting a bit late, my husband and I are generous. As long as you return Radiant Group’s shares, our Vaughn Family will recognize you as our daughter! You wouldn’t want the outside world to know your parents don’t acknowledge you, right?"

Threatening her to surrender Radiant Group shares with this bit of vanity?!

Too laughable!

...

Cecilia Vaughn really didn’t know whether to call Florence Warner stupid or what, but Gregory Vaughn’s thoughts were actually led astray by Florence Warner!

Of course! The Second Young Master Law calls him Father-in-law, Cecilia Vaughn married Adrian Law. Surely, The Eldest Young Master Law wouldn’t disregard familial ties?!

As if recalling his identity, he solemnly tapped the table.

"Cecilia, I’m your father. Even The Eldest Young Master Law is my son-in-law, right?"

"In Veridia, filial piety is emphasized. You wouldn’t want our family to be torn apart over some shares, would you?"

"As long as you obediently give me the shares back, I assure you, when I’m old, the will will declare and transfer everything to you, isn’t that the best of both worlds?"

Cecilia Vaughn slightly smiled.

"Are you saying, if I don’t comply, you’d sever our father-daughter relationship?"

Gregory Vaughn was momentarily stunned, unsure of what to say, but Florence Warner decisively nodded.

"That’s right, refusal means defiance! Our Vaughn Family doesn’t need a defiant daughter."

"That’s just perfect, I also don’t need a greedy father..."

Cecilia Vaughn coldly laughed. She slammed down a thin sheet, speaking with imposing vigor!

"Look, my purpose today is this. Here’s the property inheritance statement from my grandfather. I kindly ask irrelevant persons to leave, don’t dirty my floor!"

Florence Warner saw the real estate inheritance statement and was instantly dumbfounded!
