Chapter 244: Chapter 244: The Gentle Spokesperson
Rosalind White stared at Cecilia Vaughn’s face for a full ten seconds without looking away, her heart gripped by an invisible fear.
Apricot eyes, black hair cascading down her shoulders, her age about the same as hers, both in their twenties...
Why did Adrian, someone who kept everyone at arm’s length and was admired by so many socialites, choose someone who resembles her instead of anyone else?
Is it a coincidence?
Or...
A terrifying possibility popped into Rosalind’s mind. She took deep breaths, but the panic in her eyes was hard to conceal.
No, that’s impossible.
...
Rosalind’s gaze was so direct that anyone being stared at like this would feel uncomfortable.
Cecilia furrowed her delicate brows slightly, her voice cool as water as she reminded.
"Miss White? Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something dirty on my face?"
"No... not at all..."
Rosalind pinched her palm several times before she barely regained her composure. She curved her lips slightly, trying hard to conceal her discomposure.
"I just suddenly realized that I quite resemble my... sister-in-law, perhaps it’s just fate."
The words "sister-in-law" lingered in her mouth, exuding a bitterness deeper than wormwood.
Since childhood, she grew up with Adrian. This man, like an addictive poppy, was so beautiful and vibrant that even though everyone knew he was surrounded by poison, women who met him would rush toward him like moths to a flame, willing to die for him.
And from the day she was brought to the Law Family, her heart was already lost to him.
...
Fate?
Cecilia slightly narrowed her apricot eyes, feeling that Rosalind’s face didn’t look too good, almost pale with guilt.
However, even though Cecilia herself didn’t feel comfortable about the fact that she and Rosalind looked similar.
No one would want to be a substitute for someone else. Even knowing that Adrian didn’t have this intention, it still secretly bothered her.
Seeing Cecilia’s slight displeasure, Adrian nonchalantly glanced at Rosalind, his voice confident, yet his hand remained tightly interlocked with Cecilia’s, silently conveying warmth through touch.
"Do you think you resemble Cecy? Is that so? I never noticed."
Rosalind: "..."
After a long moment of speechlessness, Rosalind mumbled slightly, eventually forcing a smile.
"Perhaps Adrian is face-blind. Didn’t he always say that I look rather ordinary?"
"But no matter whether in our country or in Vesperia, I’ve had many compliments and confessions, I wonder how sister-in-law fares?"
Upon saying this, Rosalind couldn’t help but cast a proud glance at Cecilia.
Though their features bore slight resemblances, Cecilia undoubtedly had that reserved and cold peacock demeanor, the kind that men least favored. How could she compare to her, gentle and understanding, with no shortage of men lining up for her?
...
Rosalind’s sense of competitiveness was rather lacking. Cecilia’s lips pulled into a calm smile, her voice gently interrupting her show-off.
"Then congratulations to Miss White for being well-connected, surely finding a spouse won’t be a problem. I don’t need others to like me; out of the vast choices, I only choose one. As long as Adrian and I share mutual understanding, that’s enough."
Hearing this, Rosalind almost choked with rage.
This woman!
Not only did she subtly claim her status as Adrian’s wife, but also silently mocked her for being a social butterfly!
How was it her fault for being popular?
As for Cecilia, that tomboy, if not for Adrian’s limited exposure, how could he have boarded her ship of deceit?
...
Rosalind was filled with grievances but had no one to complain to, as Adrian was unlikely to be swayed; she was deeply aggrieved and could only bear it.
"Adrian, after a long day, why don’t we go eat?"
She had to endure, until she could see Stacy Summers and let this woman who had taken over her rightful place be put in her place!
Faced with Rosalind’s coquetry, Cecilia and Adrian paid her no mind, boarding the car heading towards the Cloud Summit Club, treating Rosalind like thin air.
Cecilia had her own youthful romantical experiences; during that time, she and Tyson Law had been childhood sweethearts, and it was inevitable for young men and women to develop innocent feelings.
Then what kind of feelings did Rosalind have for Adrian?
No matter what the truth was, Adrian was her man, and she wouldn’t let go.
...
Soon, they arrived at Cloud Summit. As a high-end club, it operated under a VIP system, and they were led to their private room by a pre-arranged attendant.
Stacy Summers had already ordered the dishes, just waiting for their arrival.
Seeing Adrian and Cecilia push open the door, Stacy’s eyes lit up.
"Adrian, Cecy, you’re here? Where’s Rosalind?"
"Good evening, Grandma."
Adrian and Cecilia slightly nodded in greeting.
Unable to fit in between the two, Rosalind followed behind, looking aggrieved. Hearing Stacy’s words, she quickly suppressed her resentment, putting on her warmest and most composed smile as she stepped forward.
"Grandma, I’m here!"
Rosalind sweetly embraced Stacy, knowing the Matriarch of the Law Family disliked reserved youngsters, she boldly planted a cheek kiss on the elder’s face, full of flattering compliments.
"Grandma, I haven’t seen you in a year, you’re looking more radiant than ever!"
"Oh, what a sweet tongue!"
Stacy chuckled, showing no resistance to Rosalind’s affection.
"Our overseas-educated Rosalind is indeed different; her style is more impressive than any star in the entertainment industry, I almost didn’t recognize you, so chic!"
Witnessing this, Cecilia’s eyes showed a slight surprise.
"Come, sit down, I was worried Rosalind might not like it, so this old bag of bones learned to eat Western food with you young folks."
Stacy said this, casually pulling out two exquisite red jade bracelets with gold trimmings from her bag, handing them to Rosalind and Cecilia respectively.
"Rosalind, consider it a graduation gift. I’ve prepared one for your sister-in-law as well, one each for you lovely sisters, it’ll make you both shine."
Knowing the elder was intentionally smoothing out their relations, Cecilia didn’t say much, merely smiled in gratitude.
"Thank you, Grandma, you’ve outdone yourself again."
Rosalind obediently accepted: "Grandma, you’re the best."
...
Soon, the waiters began serving the dishes.
Italian vegetable soup, medium-rare filet mignon, French baked snails, Japanese caviar, followed by a fruit salad.
The atmosphere was initially joyful, but then Rosalind, with innocent blinking eyes, suddenly spoke.
"Sister-in-law, how did you and Adrian meet? I’ve heard sudden marriages aren’t reliable, really sister-in-law should get to know Adrian better. Nowadays young people’s divorce rates are so high!"
Before her words trailed off, the atmosphere in the room suddenly froze.
