Chapter 140: Chapter 39: Why Does Everyone Have a Second Form?

SCREEECH—The bite didn’t land true, but a sickening grinding noise still rang out as seven or eight distinct teeth marks appeared on both sides of the Magic Sword.

"Ptui!"

Feeling his own canines had come loose, Su Zhou spat out a mouthful of scraped-off steel filings mixed with blood from his gums as his rapid Regeneration Power stabilized the roots of his teeth. He looked up at the grim-faced National Preceptor, who now had a fist-shaped imprint on his chest, and said in the most malicious low voice, "Your weapon isn’t very good quality—and you’re pretty fragile yourself."

He said that, but Su Zhou was secretly shocked. ’If it were an ordinary person, or even the Wood Centipede, my punch would have smashed them into a bloody pulp. But the National Preceptor’s jade-like body seems to possess both the hardness of steel and the resilience of tree bark. A single punch couldn’t even pierce it, only cracking a piece of its chest. What I just said was a total bluff—my own body is only this tough at best!’

’And don’t even get me started on the weapon. I’m a humanoid Extraordinary Creature, after all; my own teeth are good enough to be refined into a Spiritual Weapon, yet a single bite nearly shattered them. That just went to show how incredible the quality of that Magic Sword was!’

"Hmph. Little Dragon, you have yet to master the human Technique of taunting... However, you are indeed worthy of me unleashing my true power."

Hearing such a blunt Taunt, the National Preceptor, a large section of its chest caved in, narrowed its eyes. Azure Spiritual Light flashed within them. It gave a cold snort, then declared solemnly, "Witness a true Secret Technique!"

CRACKLE, CRACKLE—As soon as it finished speaking, the caved-in section of the National Preceptor’s jade body began to crack. The fissures spread across its entire form, like shattered porcelain.

Afterward, a Thunder Light far more dazzling than before erupted from the cracks. This violent, azure Spiritual Light blasted all the pieces of the jade body away. A small, youthful figure stepped out from the shattered shell, revealing a person who appeared to be only thirteen or fourteen years old, as young as a Daoist Child.

The ’National Preceptor’, now clad in a snow-white silk Daoist Robe, held its Magic Sword. Its face was dramatically younger than before. It stepped out from its jade ’shell-armor’ as scorching electric arcs danced around its body. The intense heat melted the surrounding ice and snow, releasing a searing aura hot enough to melt steel.

But most striking of all was the pair of eyes that had no pupils; deep within them, only a ball of azure Thunder Light flickered.

It stretched its limbs, seemingly unused to such a low perspective. Then, the National Preceptor looked up at the grim-faced Su Zhou and chuckled. "This is more like it."

’A second phase? Everyone else gets bigger, but this National Preceptor actually shrinks?’

Although that thought flashed through his mind, the sense of danger in Su Zhou’s heart skyrocketed—after the Jade Armor fell away, the layer of Wood Qi from the Divine Wood had mostly dissipated, but the turbulent Thunderbolt aura had, in turn, become much clearer!

But Su Zhou was given no more chance to observe. The National Preceptor, having stopped its essential transformation to reveal its true power, silently raised its hand. Instantly, the azure jade fragments scattered around it leaped into the air and, amid flashes of Thunder Light, came whistling toward Su Zhou!

Su Zhou hastily dodged—but he never expected that the instant he moved, the electric arcs on the jade fragments would flash wildly before disintegrating in a blinding white light!

A heavy boom like an artillery bombardment erupted. A visible, tangible shockwave of sound, mixed with billowing clouds of superheated steam, shook all the snow from the tree branches in a several-thousand-meter radius!

The ice and snow behind Su Zhou exploded!
