Chapter 137: Chapter 38: Commanding Wind Thunder (Part 3)

In the next instant, Su Zhou took another stride, sending a Divine Wood Guard in front of him flying. He then kicked another Guard to the ground—one who was raising a long spike, preparing to gather power and shatter his Gale Armor. He took a deep breath, raised his right foot, and stomped down hard. The frozen mountain earth and the surrounding snow were blasted three feet into the air, while the Divine Wood Guard’s head and half its chest were utterly crushed.

"Haha, that feels great!"

Laughing heartily, Su Zhou’s expression grew ferocious. He was about to continue his pursuit, but then he saw the remaining Divine Wood Guards turn and flee without a second thought. The dozen or so of them scattered in different directions, making him pause, momentarily unsure of which one to chase. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

’They retreat way too fast...’ Su Zhou couldn’t be bothered to waste time chasing down stragglers. He had more important things to do.

He turned his head toward the top of the city wall. The siege was still raging. Two cauldrons of molten rock had already been poured down, burning several Divine Wood Guards to death. However, the Martial Artists defending the wall had also suffered casualties, leaving eight corpses behind. The flesh and blood from the corpses were rapidly drained away, used by the other Divine Wood Guards to heal their own wounds.

Su Zhou cursed under his breath. He was about to turn back and charge in again to shatter the Divine Wood Guards’ formation.

But alarm bells suddenly went off in his mind. Su Zhou ducked and rolled on the ground, casually snatching up the broken body of a Divine Wood Guard and tossing it into the air. It wasn’t dead yet and was still trying to struggle, but it was useless.

In the next instant, a Thunder Strike slammed down directly onto the Divine Wood Guard’s body, turning it to charcoal and finishing it off... A few seconds later, the roar of thunder arrived!

ROOOOMBLE—

Su Zhou raised his head, looked up at the sky, and then turned to look at the city wall.

The National Preceptor, like a statue of Cyan Jade, hovered gracefully high in the air. On the city wall, Li Daoran was half-kneeling on the ground, his face grim. His hands were blackened, and the longsword he held had clearly been infused with Inner Strength for too long in its struggle against the Celestial Thunder—it was now half-melted and broken!

Around him, the other thirty-some Swordsmen were also gasping for breath, clearly having over-exhausted their Inner Strength.

While Su Zhou was busy throwing the Divine Wood Guards’ formation into utter chaos, the National Preceptor had been hammering Li Daoran and his men with a barrage of Thunder Strikes, nearly suffocating them. A Faraday Cage could indeed block electricity, but the Great National Master’s Inner Qi assault was all too real, and maintaining the Gale Formation also consumed a great deal of Inner Strength.

It wasn’t that Li Daoran and his men couldn’t use other Daoist Techniques. But this was Taibai Volcano, after all. Their enemies were from the Demon Dynasty, which could manipulate Wood Qi, and they were facing a Grandmaster who was an expert in Thunder Techniques. Using Water Techniques would require melting the ice first. Using Fire Techniques would mean fighting against the freezing gales. Earth Techniques had to contend with the frozen ground. As for Wood and Gold Techniques... use Wood Techniques against the Divine Wood Bloodline? Use Gold Techniques against a Five Thunders Grandmaster? That would be asking for a quick death.

Taking all these factors into account, Li Daoran’s faction—who had cultivated Wind-controlling Swordsmanship and possessed considerable expertise in the Innate Wind Skill—had been assigned as the main defending force.

"It seems that neither of us can achieve our goals unless we deal with each other first, don’t you think?"

Looking down at the young man on the ground, the National Preceptor chuckled softly. "However, young man—I don’t believe I know your name—have you considered joining our Divine Dynasty? Even His Majesty would likely not mind a Grandmaster as young as you sharing in its immortality. What do you say to the position of National Guardian General? I would even refine another cauldron of Dragon Transformation Pills..."

"—Weilie! I can see this thing’s Spiritual Qi is in turmoil! It’s obviously suffering a backlash from summoning too much lightning—shoot it!"

But when had Su Zhou ever been the type of person to let an enemy finish their speech? Spiritual Light flared in his eyes as he let out a great roar. He snatched up a longbow dropped by a nearby Divine Wood Guard, drew the string, and gathered his Qi, preparing to loose an arrow without a second thought. ’All that nonsense... what could it be but a stalling tactic?’

’All those years I spent playing video games and watching TV weren’t for nothing!’

—’Li Daoran is a Grandmaster, after all, and not far from reaching the next level. On top of that, he had his men in formation. Did the Preceptor really think it could suppress him with its power alone? Even a top-tier Grandmaster like that would have to pay a price!’

The thought flashed through his mind in an instant. As the National Preceptor’s expression twisted, two powerful arrows were loosed, accompanied by Weilie’s booming laughter in response—one from the city wall, and one from below. Both arrows shrieked with the sound of a piercing gale as they screamed toward the Preceptor’s body and the Spirit Beast beneath its feet!
