Chapter 34: Vs The Wind Green Bear 2

It was a point-blank attack.

And yet Mamadou, who should have been dead, was still standing.

His strategy of reducing the monster’s vision had paid off.

Because of the position he was in and the Wind Green Bear’s impaired sight, Mamadou had managed to avoid the attack.

Losing a piece of an ear was a small price to pay compared to losing his head.

If that attack had landed, his body would have been found without one.

"Damn."

He landed immediately and put some distance between them.

Mamadou had brushed against death so many times by now that this was far from his first experience.

Although he was shaken, it did not hinder him.

First claws that can create wind slashes, and now it fires a Kikoha from its mouth?

This Wind Green Bear is full of surprises.

"Tch. You’re really annoying. Not all Green Bears are like this, but you’re especially irritating."

The Wind Green Bear dropped onto all fours while Mamadou slowly backed away.

Step by step.

The fact that the Wind Green Bear was not charging immediately only reinforced Mamadou’s belief that he was dealing with an intelligent monster.

After all, the attack from earlier had only been used after it had gotten close to him, as if it wanted to make absolutely sure the attack would finish him off.

Mamadou began warming up, moving his body.

He tightened his grip on Osbone.

How am I supposed to fight this thing?

That other technique is still in the experimental stage.

Using it here would be a good way to test it, but it would be just as dangerous.

Let’s think.

The Wind Green Bear can use wind for cutting attacks.

It can launch wind projectiles shaped like claws.

Not only that, but the last attack that came from its mouth was like a cannon firing compressed air.

All of those things are dangerous, but if that’s all there is to it, there’s no reason I can’t beat it using my skills.

From what I can see, it has no regeneration abilities.

The only things that make it different from a normal Green Bear are its size and its ability to manipulate wind.

While Mamadou continued retreating cautiously, his mind working at full speed, the bear slowly circled around him while keeping him in sight.

"We’re not going to stare at each other forever."

Mamadou charged forward and shouted:

"Skill: Charge!"

He activated his Charge Skill and rushed toward the Wind Green Bear.

Of course, he did not need to shout the skill’s name to activate it.

It simply made the scene feel more dramatic.

The charge increased both his speed and strength, surprising the bear, which failed to adjust its stance in time.

The monster lunged forward.

The two collided.

The bear took damage to its shoulder, while Mamadou was launched over its body.

He threw Osbone toward the ground.

The bear stood up, avoiding the weapon.

As Mamadou descended from the air, he activated his Claw Skill.

"Skill: Claw!"

At the same moment, the Wind Green Bear swung its left paw.

The Claw Skill collided directly with the wind generated by the bear’s strike.

But Mamadou lost the clash.

The Claw Skill only enhanced the power of his claw attacks; it did not reinforce his hand itself.

His hand was torn open by the attack.

He landed, cushioning the impact by bending his knees.

Immediately afterward, he grabbed Osbone, which had landed nearby, and stabbed it into the bear’s paw.

Rhaaaaargh!

The creature roared in pain.

Mamadou used Claw again.

This time on the monster’s stomach.

Roooar!

He knew it wasn’t enough.

So he used Claw repeatedly.

The monster swatted him away with a paw and sent him flying.

Like the monkey he was, Mamadou immediately returned to harass it again, refusing to give it any time to remove Osbone.

He came back using Charge and slammed into the bear.

The impact knocked the creature onto its back.

The bear struggled violently.

But because its vision had been damaged, it could not launch precise attacks.

Most of its strikes ended up as shallow scratches or attacks that Mamadou easily dodged.

Mamadou climbed onto its body.

As he moved toward its head, the Wind Green Bear opened its mouth again to unleash another one of its attacks.

Knowing what was coming, Mamadou activated Claw and slashed across its throat.

Then he immediately forced its mouth shut.

His tail wrapped tightly around the Wind Green Bear’s neck.

The monster struggled and roared with all its strength.

This time, Mamadou used Bite on its face.

Not once.

No.

He bit into it and tore away its nose first.

He bit through the flesh that formed its snout while his tail continued tightening around the creature’s throat.

Only when he finally felt the Wind Green Bear stop moving did he stop.

He collapsed onto its body.

Panting.

It was too much.

For a moment he had been so focused that he had stopped thinking entirely.

He had simply thrown himself at the beast and used every ounce of strength he possessed.

Now he felt completely drained.

Anyway, time for the main course.

Mamadou began eating the Wind Green Bear.

It may have been enormous, but his stomach seemed bottomless.

Since the monster was considered Special, he did not want to leave behind even a single scrap.

On the way back, he would hunt a few Green Bears like the Greater Ark Monkey had requested.

That was Mamadou’s plan.

[You have acquired the Heart of the Wind Green Bear.]

Oh?

[Congratulations for completing the quest!]

[Rewards: 1000 Points]

[Maximum Experience Reached.]

[Ark Nocyris Monkey Level 7 has advanced to Level 10.]

Finally.

So I needed a big fish to reach Level 10.

That bottleneck has finally been overcome.

I can feel all my fatigue disappearing.

I’ve become stronger.

[All base stats have increased.]

[All skills have leveled up.]

[Achievement Milestone Reached.]

[100 Skill Points Acquired.]

Can I take on one of those goblins now?

I should be strong enough, I think!

Even if our levels are similar, I doubt all races have the same stats at the same level.

On top of that, I’m no longer just an Ark Monkey.

I’m an Ark Nocyris Monkey.

And if, as the Greater Ark Monkey described, we’re a race born for combat, then there should be advantages, right?

Well, I’ll find out if I run into one.

And if I’m still not strong enough...

I’ll just run away.
