Chapter 729: Edonia
A vampire stood on a stone platform beside the cocoon.
The moment he felt the pressure from their blood, his expression changed.
He had seen them indirectly before, but seeing them in person was completely different.
It made him wonder whether he would have canceled his plan if they had come earlier.
Mingyue raised her sword and pointed it at him.
"Stop the formation."
The vampire smiled.
"You give orders quickly for successors who arrived too late."
Alex’s green fire appeared around his hand.
"Who are you?"
"Soren Veyr." Soren turned toward the cocoon. "The vampire race waited for the promised successors, but none came. Our people continued dying while we waited for a salvation that never appeared."
He placed his hand against the cocoon.
"So we created our own."
The cocoon shook beneath his palm.
THUMP!
The sound passed through the chamber. The blood below rose, and the black chains around the cocoon shook.
Alex could feel many lives inside the formation.
Some were already gone. Others were still being drained.
"Release everyone who is still alive," Alex said.
Soren looked back at him.
"Their blood, souls, pain, and hatred gave our race a new future."
"You killed your own people."
"I gave their deaths a purpose! It was better than becoming slaves!"
Mingyue’s eyes became colder. Frost spread across her sword.
"I know you have been through a lot. I cannot even imagine how much they have suffered, but what you are doing is condemning them to even worse suffering. If you touch the formation again, you will lose that hand."
Soren ignored the sword pointed at him. He looked at Alex and Mingyue with a complicated gaze.
The cocoon shook again.
This time, the movement did not come from Soren.
Something inside had reacted to his words.
Soren’s smile widened. "It’s easy to say that. You’re not the one who lived through it all!"
Soren flicked his finger. The black blood moved with his will and formed a large screen in the air.
The blood rippled before the image became clear.
A vast world appeared inside it.
Alex & Mingyue quickly recognize it. "Edonia."
However, it was not the ruined world they had seen.
The land was filled with towering cities that reached into the clouds. Massive ships moved between floating structures, and countless formations covered the sky like a second layer of stars.
Vampires walked through the streets. Other races lowered their heads when they passed.
Some looked at them with respect. Others looked at them with fear and admiration.
The image changed.
A group of rulers from different worlds stood inside a grand hall. They waited below a raised platform while several vampires sat above them.
None of those rulers complained. They had come willingly.
Some asked for weapons. Some wanted protection from their enemies.
Others brought their dying children and begged the vampires to save them.
"At our peak, we were the leaders of this universe," Soren said.
His voice remained calm, but his fingers slowly tightened.
"We were the strongest, and no one could challenge us. Every race knew our name. Every ruler treated our words as law."
The image changed again.
A vampire placed his hand on a dying child. Green light entered the child’s body, and the sickness disappeared.
The child’s parents immediately fell to their knees.
Another image showed a vampire fleet arriving above a burning world. The enemy army tried to escape, but the sky turned red before their ships were destroyed.
Another showed scholars from different races standing inside a vampire laboratory. They watched with open admiration as a new spatial gate activated before them.
"Everyone came to us when they needed something," Soren continued. "Technology, power, knowledge, medicine. Even when they wanted someone brought back from the edge of death, they came to Edonia."
The blood screen stopped on a massive palace.
Countless people filled the road before it. They raised their hands and cheered as several Vampire Sovereigns appeared above them.
Soren stood among them.
His appearance was younger, but Alex recognized him at once.
He wore dark armor covered in red patterns. Thousands of soldiers knelt when he raised one hand.
"I was there," Soren said. "I lived during that era."
For the first time, his voice shook.
"I was a Sovereign. Trillion Armies moved when I gave an order. Entire worlds waited for my decisions. When someone threatened our people, I could destroy them before they reached our borders."
The image inside the screen suddenly changed.
The bright sky became dark.
The floating structures burned and fell toward the cities below. Ships crashed into towers. Formation barriers shattered one after another as enemies poured into Edonia.
The people who had once cheered were now running through streets covered in blood.
The image moved again. Vampires were dragged through chains.
Some were forced to kneel before rulers from races that had once begged them for help.
Others were placed inside cages and sold.
A vampire child reached through the bars while people laughed and pointed at her.
A man kicked the cage and called her a blood rat.
The child pulled her hand back and covered her face.
Mingyue’s grip tightened around her sword.
Soren stared at the image without blinking.
"The same people who once praised us became our worst enemies," he said. "The moment we became weak, they showed us what their respect was worth."
The image showed a group of vampires working inside a mine. Metal collars surrounded their necks, and formations burned into their skin whenever they slowed down.
One of them collapsed.
A guard laughed before striking him again.
"We became slaves," Soren said. "We became tools. We became things people bought, used, and threw away."
The screen changed again.
Several nobles sat around a table while a chained vampire stood before them. They forced him to perform tricks with his blood before throwing food at his feet.
Everyone laughed when he failed to catch it.
"We became a joke."
Soren’s hand trembled.
"I had once ruled worlds, but I could not even protect the people standing beside me. I watched children get taken away. I watched families become property. I watched people who once called me Sovereign spit in my face."
The black blood around him began to move faster.
"Do you understand what that feels like?"
He looked directly at Alex and Mingyue.
"It was not only losing the people I loved. Every day reminded me of what we used to be."
His voice grew louder.
"Every dead reminded me."
The screen showed a vampire kneeling before a minor noble.
"Every tragedy reminded me."
Another vampire was forced to lower his head while people laughed.
"Every time one of our people begged for mercy, I remembered the time when entire worlds begged us for help."
The image disappeared for a moment before showing Soren inside a dark prison.
He sat against the wall with chains around both arms. His body was thin, and dried blood covered his clothes.
Even then, his eyes were still looking toward the small opening above him.
"We kept waiting," he said.
His voice became quieter.
"His Majesty Alucard promised us, He said successors would come. He said new Progenitors would rise and lead our race again."
The scene changed. Years passed inside the prison.
The chains changed. The guards changed. Even the walls were rebuilt.
Soren remained.
"We waited for you."
Another image appeared.
Vampires hid inside the ruins of a city while hunters searched for them.
"We told our children to endure because salvation would come."
The children grew older. Some died. Others were captured.
"We told the them to stay alive, to held in all the anger because the promised successors would save them."
The screen showed a line of chained vampires being led onto a ship.
None of them returned.
"Years became centuries."
The images changed faster.
Cities rose and fell. Kingdoms disappeared. New races gained power while the vampires continued hiding beneath ruined worlds. Erased from history.
"Centuries became millennia."
Soren’s eyes became red.
"Still, no one came."
The blood screen showed empty temples. Broken statues of the Progenitors lay beneath dust and rubble.
"Our lives kept getting worse."
Another hidden settlement burned.
"Our people kept disappearing."
A vampire mother held her dead child while soldiers approached from behind.
"Every generation had less hope than the one before it."
The images finally stopped.
Only darkness remained inside the screen.
Soren lowered his hand, but the screen did not disappear.
"I kept waiting even after everyone around me stopped believing."
He looked toward the cocoon.
"I waited while our bloodlines weakened. I waited while our children grew up knowing nothing except fear."
His expression twisted.
"Then I finally understood."
Alex’s green flames grew stronger around his hand.
Soren slowly began to laugh.
At first, it was only a quiet sound.
Then his shoulders started shaking.
The laugh grew louder and more broken until it filled the entire chamber.
"The promise is alie it will never come! His majesty Alucard has failed."
He raised both arms as the black blood screen collapsed behind him.
The cocoon pulsed.
THUMP!
The blood below it rose, and every chain around the pit shook.
Soren’s laughter stopped.
He looked at Alex and Mingyue with tears of blood running from his eyes.
"Welcome, successors. We hoped for one, yet two come"
His smile widened.
"But both of you came too late."
A crack spread across the cocoon.
Red light shone through the opening, followed by a pressure that made the entire buried city tremble.
Soren turned toward it and lowered his head.
"We no longer need you."
The crack grew larger.
"Now, we have our own god."
A crack appeared across the cocoon. Soren turned toward it.
The rough voice that came from inside was weak, but everyone in the chamber heard it clearly.
"Stop speaking for me. I’m not your GOD!"
