Chapter 2470: Chapter 2446: Three-Pronged Attack
When it comes to the ability to infiltrate enemy lines, it can’t simply be described as skilled for the Black Demon; it is not an exaggeration to say that every person in the Black Demon unit is at a Grandmaster level.
The best at infiltrating enemy lines within the Satan unit were Li Jinfang and Number Thirteen. Now, since Number Thirteen is off somewhere, only Li Jinfang remains as the expert.
Dispatching Li Jinfang along with three Black Demons to infiltrate and shadow would ensure absolute success.
The four of them quietly followed, with Hammer and Vasily tailing two of the sentinels, while Li Jinfang and Tarta entered the abandoned building in tandem.
After making a quick sweep inside, Tarta exited the building, followed closely by Li Jinfang, who then signaled to Gao Yang that there was one inside and it had been taken care of.
The infiltration did not delay them more than a few seconds, so even if Vasily and Hammer hadn’t been specifically tasked to follow that officer, they wouldn’t have lost him.
The enemy officer walked ahead, while the assault team quietly followed behind.
The patrolling officer stopped again, spoke a few words while standing, and although Gao Yang was watching through the thermal imaging scope, he observed someone briefly emerge from the wall corner, salute, say a few words, and return to hiding.
No sooner had the patrolling officer moved fifty meters further, Vasily stealthily followed, quickly flashed to the corner, and then reappeared to signal the obstacle had been neutralized.
The ever-dutiful officer never realized he was leading enemies through.
Judging from the sentinels already detected, there were issues with their placement; they had blind spots in their surveillance of the village’s outskirts and within, lacking double sentinels or positions ensuring unobstructed views.
However, upon reaching this point, enemy sentry posts were finally reinforced, showing that the enemy had focused their defenses on key areas while neglecting most other locations.
The enemy seemed to strictly follow battle protocols and were cautious, yet it also exposed that their sentry placements were made as mere formalities; the officers issuing and enforcing orders seemed to feel it unnecessary to maintain utmost vigilance. Their approach was just to assign sentry positions without much thought to coverage, ensuring unobstructed views was clearly not on their minds.
In essence, although rigorously trained, in practice, none could diligently apply their learning, typically paying lip service with no real experience.
If they had experience, they certainly wouldn’t dismiss the crucial task of sentinel duty in battle so lightly.
Tarta dispatched the third hidden sentinel, exited the concealed location, gestured in a certain direction, and indicated he discovered a new sentinel, comprised of four people.
The newly discovered sentry post posed complications, as the four were grouped together, neither asleep nor chatting, keeping to their task. While their minds’ focus was uncertain, their vigilance was clear as three of them were pacing and watching different directions.
Gao Yang was puzzled, but after Tarta continued his gestures, it became clear.
When Gao Yang reached Tarta’s position, he realized they’d unknowingly arrived at the village’s center; a few steps and turns more would bring the helicopters clearly into view.
Tarta then pointed at the officer still ahead, made a threatening gesture across his neck.
Gao Yang shook his head, pointed at the helicopters, implying their priority was the helicopters, letting the officer walk free without causing extra issues; all they needed now was the opportunity to destroy the three helicopters.
Less than two hundred meters from the helicopters, the four sentinels were stationed right upfront, meaning they could be easily eliminated during the helicopter’s demolition.
The assault team hid themselves, completely disappearing into the darkness, taking cover behind corners, under doorways, in any available nook.
Gao Yang covered his mouth, speaking in barely a whisper: "Assault team has reached attack positions, Team One, Team Two, report your locations, over."
The most difficult assault team arrived at the attack position first, thanks to the guide, Bright Light.
"Team One has approached the target; no advantageous position to exploit, but facing a relatively low wall, we can already see the helicopter blades. If no ideal attack position is feasible, we can damage the helicopter rotors, over."
"Team Two hasn’t reached the attack position yet, proceeding slowly; we’re circling northeast where gaps could be exploited. If no suitable location is found, we’ll close in for an assault, over."
"Ram understood, assault team to standby, over."
Then, there was nothing but silent waiting.
Twenty minutes passed when Frey first sent a message.
"Team One has reached attack position, two thousand two hundred meters from target, can see and attack all four helicopters, over."
"Team One to hold position, over."
After an hour’s wait, as the time neared four in the morning, Team Two finally sent their message.
"Team Two has reached attack position, unable to target all helicopters unless we continue to approach; from northeast direction, about one thousand five hundred meters from target, currently can only see two Black Hawk Helicopters."
Team Two couldn’t target all five helicopters, and with Team One and assault team fully in place, Gao Yang decided Team Two should continue to approach.
"Team Two proceed, maintain the ability to launch missiles, try to get close enough to ensure target destruction. If unable to ensure complete destruction, prioritize destroying Apache, over."
"Team Two understood, over."
They continued to wait, knowing the attack needed to be launched simultaneously, but as Team Two was still nearing the target, a sudden gunshot erupted from the northwest direction.
"Team Two compromised! Forced to attack, over!"
With Team Two exposed, they couldn’t wait any longer, Gao Yang quietly spoke into the radio: "Fire!"
At the command, Tarta fired the first shot.
Tarta used his favorite silenced sniper rifle, virtually silent but not very powerful; the sentinel hit merely staggered without falling, when Gao Yang immediately fired the second shot.
Even with body armor, the enemy couldn’t withstand Gao Yang’s bullet, for knowing they would have armor, Satan’s assault team picked armor-piercing bullets for their ammo.
The gunshot rang out, it ended fast, with only four sentinels, not even enough for Gao Yang alone, and as Gao Yang’s shot faded, two massive explosions resonated from the northwest direction, closely followed by more intense and successive blasts from the village’s east.
