Chapter 2463: Chapter 2439: Fortunate or Unfortunate
Liang Dong was carried onto a stretcher, and Albert started administering first aid to him right next to the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the helicopters finally left, and the enemies retreated far away, beyond Gao Yang and the others’ line of sight on the other side of the mountain, being picked up by transport helicopters.
At this point, Gao Yang and the others finally had the opportunity to approach the area where Vorvitsky was located.
Liang Dong’s life was still uncertain; Gao Yang could no longer stay by his side. He had to get back in the vehicle to drive faster.
In the vehicle, Joseph whispered, "Can Mouse survive?"
Gao Yang replied in a muffled voice, "There’s hope, but not much."
Joseph sighed and said, "As long as there’s hope, it’s good. Having hope is a good thing."
Gao Yang sighed heavily but said nothing, while Joseph continued, "I really like Mouse. Not just for the dishes he makes; I like him as a person. I like everyone who remains loyal to their duties and never retreats. Though, to be honest, Mouse’s cooking is indeed delicious."
During their conversation, Joseph didn’t seem angry, just very solemn. Gao Yang glanced at Joseph and asked, "Do you understand our current opponent?"
After a moment of thought, Joseph nodded, saying, "Relatively speaking, yes."
Gao Yang was quite puzzled, "Why do they consistently do things that are beyond ordinary comprehension? Even at war, why do they send a top-notch special forces unit to attack some meaningless frontline troops instead of doing what special forces truly ought to do, like targeting our command center?"
Joseph sneered, "Do you know how many princes there are in Saudi Arabia?"
"I don’t know."
"About five thousand."
"That many?"
"The direct line isn’t that many, but it’s still a lot. Did you hear about the princes who like to get involved in the military for prestige?"
"Yeah, I’ve heard of it."
Joseph glanced at Gao Yang, saying gravely, "Suppose it was one of the princes, a really important one, and he needed a victory. Do you think he’d choose to attack our command center or just pick a random outpost on the frontline?"
"Attack the command center, right? Such a victory would be meaningful and significantly more dazzling."
"You’re wrong. Prince Your Highness merely needs a victory—one without much risk but with enough spotlight. Attacking the command center is too risky. Compared to a truly meaningful victory, safety is undoubtedly more important because he’s Prince Your Highness. Even without the dazzling achievements, it doesn’t really matter. Do you understand now?"
"I understand."
Joseph slammed the brakes; there was no road ahead, and the off-road vehicle couldn’t proceed.
Gao Yang jumped out, waved his hand; there was no need for further instructions, as everyone already knew what to do.
The encircled part of the Dagger Assault Team comprised approximately sixty people. As Gao Yang and his group reached the core of the fiercest battlefield, they were first greeted by the sight of corpses—variously deformed and mutilated—mostly slain by armed helicopters. Corpses struck directly by autocannons or rockets could not remain intact.
Gao Yang feared that Vorvitsky had already committed suicide, which would mean absolutely no chances left.
Choosing suicide over capture wasn’t a rule, but for those belonging to Satan, achieving that was preferable since capture was far more tragic than suicide.
Gao Yang walked slowly among the corpses and limbs, hoping to locate Vorvitsky’s body, and as members of the Dagger Assault Team flocked into the battlefield, someone was finally found alive.
"There’s someone alive here, medic!"
"There’s an injured person! It doesn’t look so bad. Hurry with the stretcher!"
Finally, Peter pointed, shouting into the walkie-talkie, "I’ve spotted Cobra! Over there!"
Following Peter’s direction, Gao Yang ran over quickly.
Peter reached Vorvitsky before Gao Yang, standing with a face full of disappointment and sadness.
Gao Yang crouched beside Vorvitsky’s body.
Vorvitsky had a pistol in his hand, laid sprawled on the ground in a "V" shape, with blood pooling beneath his head.
Gao Yang placed his hand over his forehead, lowered his head, and sighed heavily.
Peter whispered, "So he did commit suicide..."
Suicided—he was dead, negating the need to call Albert or Andy He over.
Frey stood beside Gao Yang amidst the silent crowd, suddenly surprised, "It looks like Cobra’s finger just moved."
Gao Yang immediately lowered his hand, exclaiming, "Hmm? Did you see wrong?"
"Usually, when suiciding, a shot would be fired into the mouth or near the ear to ensure hitting the central nerves. Where’s his wound?"
No point in talking further; Gao Yang directly flipped over Vorvitsky’s body, and with just a glance, he bellowed, "Medic! Panda, come over quickly!"
Albert was treating Liang Dong, while Andy He was following the main group, temporarily unnecessary. In the minds of all Satan members, Vorvitsky was surely dead; Andy He thought so too, hence not coming over.
As a doctor, living patients matter more than the deceased, no matter who, but as long as Vorvitsky wasn’t dead, he naturally mattered more than any member of the Houthis Armed Forces.
"Not a suicide?"
Andy He asked in surprise, crouching next to Vorvitsky. With just a touch, he started shouting, "He’s fainted, only fainted!"
"Check this out!"
Peter yelled excitedly, picking up a stone slightly larger than a walnut nearby, jubilantly announcing, "Cobra didn’t suicide, he was hit by a shard of stone blasted by a helicopter!"
Andy He was inspecting Vorvitsky’s head wound, quickly concluding, "Not dead, won’t die, but still dangerous; the injury site is critical. He won’t die, but I can’t tell if it’s his fortune or misfortune."
Calling Vorvitsky fortunate was sensible; on the verge of bursting, to avoid capture, he ought to commit suicide, but before doing so, he was knocked unconscious by a stone from an exploding helicopter.
Deeming Vorvitsky unfortunate wasn’t incorrect either; those Shah People had already abandoned further assault. Perseverance for a few more minutes would mean survival without harm, although only five fortunate individuals from the Dagger Assault Team survived unscratched.
But ultimately, not dying was a blessing.
After checking, Andy He urgently stated, "The external injury isn’t critical; what’s concerning is the internal situation. He displays symptoms of a possible intracranial hemorrhage. Instrument analysis is necessary, and if severe, a craniotomy must be performed swiftly."
Gao Yang immediately stood up, loudly commanding, "Don’t delay any further; find a way, quick!"
