Chapter 260: Harbour city.
Mo Yuxin glanced down at her and smiled. "Let them."
"Arrogant," Su Yubing said, though her tone was fond.
Mo Yuxin drew her close enough that their sleeves brushed together, then bent her head and kissed her right there on the road with the harbor city gates only a short distance ahead. It was not a brief peck either. It was a soft, unhurried kiss with too much affection in it for anyone to mistake it for anything else. The sailors nearby made a huge show of looking away while clearly not looking away. One dock worker coughed like he had swallowed a fish bone. Su Yubing’s cheeks went pink, but she kissed Mo Yuxin back anyway, because after months on the road together, there was no point pretending they were too shy for this kind of thing. Mo Yuxin’s hand slid up to hold the back of her neck for a second, careful and warm, and when they finally separated, Su Yubing was smiling so much it looked like she might glow.
By the time they actually entered Harbour Port City, the sun was already moving lower, and the streets were full of people carrying goods, shouting prices, dragging carts, unloading crates, and racing to finish business before evening. The city had layers to it. The outer districts were all warehouses, inns, fish markets, and ship repair yards, while the inner streets held restaurants, auction houses, spirit tool shops, and tall guild halls with banners snapping in the wind. There were people from many places there, and the city did not care who came from where as long as they brought trade, coin, or strength. Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing walked through it as if they belonged to the whole world, not just one region of it. They got nods of respect from old cultivators, excited glances from younger ones, and one extremely nervous invitation from a city patrol captain who had apparently been told not to offend them under any circumstances.
They did, of course, help people again almost at once. A ferry line had broken loose in a storm, and several dockhands were panicking because a cargo barge had drifted too close to the reef channel. Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing reached the water before anyone else could finish shouting directions. They stabilized the barge, redirected the currents, and pinned the broken rope line with spiritual force long enough for the dock crew to secure it properly. The captain of the harbor patrol was so grateful he tried to invite them to the city’s highest guest tower, but the two women declined because they had already spotted a tiny street stall selling sweet grilled shellfish and Su Yubing had decided, with complete seriousness, that this was now more important than any tower. That evening, after they had found an inn overlooking the harbor, they sat on the balcony with their feet near one another, shared the shellfish, drank a little warm rice wine, and watched lanterns start to light one by one across the docks. The sea rolled in the distance like a breathing thing. Ships creaked softly below. Somewhere in the city, someone was playing a flute. Mo Yuxin brushed a bit of salt from Su Yubing’s lip and kissed her again, slower this time, with all the quiet happiness of a journey finally reaching the place it had been moving toward for months.
By then, the harbor city already knew the strongest women on the continent had arrived, and the news was spreading fast through streets, docks, tea houses, and guild halls. Some people were nervous. Some were curious. Some were thrilled. But Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing only cared about one thing in that moment, which was that they had reached the sea together, alive and well, after months of easy travel, monster fights, good meals, new friends, helpful strangers, and more kisses than either of them had ever bothered to count. They still had the whole city ahead of them, and the whole ocean beyond it, but for tonight, that was enough.
...
The harbor city of Yanhai was so packed with cultivators trying to catch an outbound ship that the whole dockside smelled like salt water, spirit incense, and way too many nervous people crammed into one place, and right in the middle of that crowd Mo Yuxin walked with one hand resting easily on Su Yubing’s waist like she had all the time in the world. She was tall, broad through the shoulders in that effortless handsome way, dressed in a plain dark blue robe that did absolutely nothing to hide how good she looked in it, which meant half the young disciples nearby kept sneaking glances at her even while pretending to talk about something else. She did not seem to notice any of it though, because her attention kept drifting sideways to the woman walking beside her instead, the same way it always did no matter how many times she had already looked that morning.
Su Yubing really was the kind of beautiful that did not feel like it belonged in this world. Her skin looked like it had been carved out of the palest jade, her hair was so black it almost looked blue under the sun, and there was something in the calm, unhurried way she carried herself that made people go quiet without even meaning to. She wore a simple white outer robe over pale blue inner layers, nothing flashy, and yet somehow she still looked like she had just stepped out of a painting someone had spent their whole life trying to get right. She caught Mo Yuxin staring again and gave her a small, amused look out of the corner of her eye.
"You are doing it again," Su Yubing said quietly, her voice light and a little teasing.
"Doing what," Mo Yuxin answered, completely unbothered, pulling her just a little closer as they walked around a cart piled high with spirit fruit. "I am allowed to look at my own wife."
