Chapter 107: 0107

Lorelei POV

"What?"

My mind reeled.

I refused to believe what Skye was telling me. Maya had been kidnapped and brought here? All this time, I had been so consumed by my own nightmare that it never once crossed my mind that other women could have been sold into this place too.

But why Maya?

"Bring her to me," I said, my voice trembling as I struggled to contain the storm of emotions threatening to spill over.

Skye nodded frantically before practically sprinting out to find her.

As soon as she disappeared down the hallway, I turned toward Isaac and motioned for him to come closer.

"Another maid is about to come into my room," I said, trying to keep my voice steady even though my hands trembled at my sides. "This is a private matter. Will that be okay?"

Isaac hesitated, his expression tightening as he silently weighed my request.

Kaelen wasn’t around, and granting me this one favor probably wouldn’t cause much trouble.

After several tense seconds, he finally gave a reluctant nod.

"That won’t be a problem, Miss Ella. As long as you don’t get hurt."

Hearing that, a wave of relief washed over me.

"Thank you."

*

A few minutes later, I was back inside my bedroom, pacing restlessly across the floor while absentmindedly biting my nails. My thoughts raced in every direction, each question leading to another until my head felt ready to explode.

The heavy silence stretching across the room was finally broken by the soft click of the door opening.

Skye stepped inside first, with Maya following right behind her.

The moment the door closed, Maya dropped straight to her knees, and she completely broke down.

Violent sobs wracked her body as she lowered her head until it rested against the floor.

"I’m so sorry!" she cried, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably. "I’m so, so sorry for the way I treated you before. I never meant to hurt you, Lorelei. I never wanted to betray you."

Her words sent a sharp ache straight through my chest.

For a brief moment, my mind drifted back to our old pack. Back to a time when Maya and I had actually been friends.

She had been my only friend.

The only person in that entire hellhole who hadn’t treated me like I was worthless.

At least, that was what I believed until the day she turned her back on me too and joined everyone else in making my life miserable.

"I needed the money," she choked out, her voice breaking as another wave of sobs overtook her. "My mom was so sick. If I had refused Callista, I would’ve been her next target. Even worse, I would’ve lost my job. Please... just try to understand where I’m coming from."

Her cries grew louder as she crawled toward me on her knees, desperately reaching for my feet.

I immediately took a step back, my fists tightening at my sides as I glared down at her.

"I didn’t call you here to reopen old wounds," I said coldly, cutting straight through her sobbing.

Maya looked up at me, her lips parting as if to offer another excuse, but I cut her off before she could say a single word.

"You told Skye you were kidnapped," I said, my voice flat and unwavering. "Explain."

She remained on her knees, her bloodshot eyes overflowing with tears as she slowly nodded.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice trembling. "By rogues."

At those words, my chest tightened.

Rogues.

Again.

The similarity to my own story was far too great to be dismissed as a coincidence.

"Ever since you left the Silver Fang Pack, everything has gone to shit," Maya continued, wiping her nose with the back of her hand. "The rogue attacks have become relentless. Things got so bad that a lot of people back home started believing it’s your curse. They think that because your body was never properly laid to rest, your spirit is still wandering around, cursing the pack."

She looked up at me through tear-filled eyes.

"But seeing you now... it’s obvious it’s because you’re still alive."

"Watch your mouth," Skye snapped, stepping forward as she glared down at Maya.

Maya flinched immediately, realizing how her words had sounded.

"No, I didn’t mean it like that," she stammered, frantically shaking her head. "I swear, that’s not what I meant."

"You’ve got a lot of audacity for someone who’s literally begging for help," Skye cut her off, her voice sharp with irritation. "Remember, you practically harassed me for days just to get a meeting with her."

"Skye," I said quietly, even though my fingernails were digging so deeply into my palms that they stung.

Skye let out a sigh before taking a step back, her expression softening ever so slightly.

"Fine."

"Go on," I said, turning my attention back to Maya.

Maya swallowed hard, struggling to compose herself as she wiped the remaining tears from her cheeks.

"During one of the recent rogue raids, a group of us girls were captured," she began. "They rounded us up like livestock... and sold us."

"Where are the other girls?" I asked immediately, my heart beginning to pound. "Are they here on this estate too?"

Maya frantically shook her head, and a dark shadow crossed her face.

"No," she whispered. "Most of them were trafficked to powerful men... to be used as sex slaves."

The words hit the room like a punch to the chest.

Skye’s face drained of color, and she let out a horrified gasp, clapping a trembling hand over her mouth.

My own stomach twisted so violently I thought I was going to be sick.

"What about you?" I managed to ask, my voice barely above a whisper. "Why weren’t you sold for that?"

"I guess you could call it luck," Maya replied with a bitter, humorless laugh. "None of the buyers wanted me."

She lowered her eyes to the floor.

"I honestly thought the rogues were going to keep me and use me as a rogue breeder. But then Mr. Hawke showed up. He bought me on the spot, brought me here, and put me to work as a maid."

She paused before looking back at me.

"He also forced me to change my name. Skye is the only person here who knows I’m actually Maya."

So Hawke had followed the exact same script with Maya that he had used on me.

But Maya was only one victim.

How many other girls were out there on this same estate right now, suffering in silence after being dragged into this human trafficking ring against their will?

"This is insane," Skye breathed, beginning to pace the room. "We have to do something. We need to go straight to the Alpha King and have Hawke arrested."

I opened my mouth to agree.

That was exactly what I had planned to discuss with Skye before all of this happened.

But before I could say a word, Maya suddenly panicked.

"No!" she cried.

I frowned, completely caught off guard by the fear in her voice.

"Please... don’t tell the Alpha," Maya begged, looking absolutely terrified. "It’s only going to get us killed. Or worse... it’ll drag you into this too, Lorelei."

"Why?" I demanded, stepping closer and lowering myself slightly so I could look her directly in the eyes. My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears.

"Why shouldn’t we tell the Alpha King?"

Maya’s lips trembled.

She glanced nervously toward the bedroom door before lowering her voice to a barely audible whisper.

"Because he’s an accomplice."

The room fell deathly silent, and my entire body went rigid.

"Or... worse," Maya continued, her voice shaking uncontrollably. "He might be the one behind everything."

My blood ran cold.

"I heard it myself," she whispered. "I overheard Mr. Hawke talking about it on the phone."
