Chapter 58: The Blood That Terrified the Wolf Pack

(Next Morning)

Nuan woke up to a chaotic symphony of aggressive growling, frantic mumbling, and nervous chattering echoing right at the mouth of the den.

But before she could even open her crusty eyelids, a sharp, twisting knot tightened in her lower stomach, accompanied by an unmistakably warm, wet, and horribly sticky feeling between her thighs.

Please tell me I’m currently being eaten alive by a pack of wild wolves and that I am not having my periods in the middle of a primitive jungle, Nuan prayed desperately to whatever cosmic entity was listening.

She slowly cracked her eyes open and tried to unroll herself from her cozy human-burrito blanket. The moment she moved, a violent cramp shot straight up her abdomen, forcing a sharp groan past her lips. She looked down, only to see her cute, fluffy elephant blanket thoroughly ruined by a blooming crimson stain.

It was official. Her cycle had arrived.

Nuan glared toward the mouth of the den. Dozens of wolf ears and glowing eyes were peeking inside, their nostrils flaring frantically as the rich, heavy scent of fresh blood blanketed the cave.

Kael was standing at the threshold, his hackles raised as he growled aggressively at the crowding pack members.

Sensing her movement, Kael whipped his head over his injured shoulder. The second his eyes landed on her crimson-stained lower half, absolute panic completely erased his tough Alpha persona.

He scrambled over, heavily dropping to his knees beside her bedding.

"Nuan! What happened?! Who sneaked in and attacked you?!" he panicked, his hands hovering over her frantically. "Why are you leaking so much blood?!"

"Calm down, you giant idiot! I wasn’t attacked, I’m just on my period!" Nuan hissed, pinching her ruined loincloth skirt away from her skin. Ugh!!! This is so sticky and gross! This is literally grosser than the raw bull testicles I had to eat for survival show on earth!

Kael tilted his head in pure, unadulterated confusion, his ears flopping outward. "What... what is a period?"

Nuan glared at him, then at the crowded cave entrance where the anxious whispering was getting louder, making her mounting frustration spike through the roof.

"First of all, go fuck them up!!" Nuan snapped, her voice dripping with menstrual rage. "The noise is making my head explode!"

Fueled by her anger, Kael bounded up, spun on his good heel, and marched straight to the den’s mouth. He unleashed a series of deafening, thunderous Alpha barks, aggressively ordering everyone to shut the hell up and clear the entrance immediately.

As the mouth of the den finally fell silent, the pack members—now reassured that the Witch was very much alive and loudly yelling—hurriedly scattered back to their usual morning routines.

Just then, Selka stepped into the shadows of the cave. Her sharp eyes immediately locked onto the blood pooling on Nuan’s lower half and the ruined elephant blanket.

She glanced down at Nuan’s wrapped hand, then back down. "Did your palm wound burst? No... that’s fine. Furless, why are you losing so much blood from there?"

Selka threw a fierce, murderous glare at Kael near the entrance, assuming he had done something reckless. But Nuan gently reached out and grabbed the older wolf-woman’s paw-like hand, a tight knot flexing in her tummy as she whimpered in pain.

"N... No, Miss Selka. Ughh... I’m okay. It’s just a normal part of my monthly... uh... being healthy for the breeding cycle," Nuan explained, using the absolute easiest, most primitive terminology possible to explain a menstrual cycle to a female beastman who had likely never experienced monthly bleeding in her life.

The second the words "breeding cycle" hit Kael’s ears, his eyes completely lit up. His tail began to wag like a frantic propeller behind him as he eagerly took three heavy steps closer to the bed. "It means... it means you want to mate right now?! To get my baby inside your stomach?!"

Nuan, already completely annoyed, bloated, and miserable from the worst possible start to her morning, quickly curled herself into a tight, defensive ball.

This is literally the worst time in the history of human civilization to even think about mating, she sobbed internally.

Back on Earth, every single one of her wilderness survival shoots had been meticulously planned, calculated, and scheduled around her menstrual cycle.

For her, the mere thought of spending an active day in a brutal, humid jungle while on her period was an absolute living nightmare.

On Earth, she survived her periods in her lavish, air-conditioned house—staying glued to her bed, ordering endless comfort food online, watching TV, or having her web-novel-obsessed niece over to ramble about beastworld stories.

Selka stared down at the whining, vulnerable, and clearly suffering human, and then snapped her head toward her son, unleashing a terrifying, low growl that shook the cave walls. "If you dare lay a single finger on her while she is suffering in this state, I will personally show you exactly why your late father used to fear me!"

Kael visibly gulped, his tail immediately dropping between his legs. He looked over at Nuan, his voice dropping into a hesitant, worried whisper. "Are you... are you okay, Nuan?"

"No... please don’t talk to me. Just leave me alone..." Nuan whispered into her knees. She took a deep breath, looking up at the older wolf-woman with pleading eyes. "Miss Selka, please... can you take me to the river?"

Still lying on the ground, Nuan reached out, touched the soiled elephant blanket, and willed it straight into her system inventory to deal with later.

Selka nodded gently, her harsh expression softening with motherly understanding. She turned a stern eye back to Kael. "Do not do anything reckless while I am gone. You are still heavily injured! I am taking the furless to the river to wash up, and we will be back soon."

Kael nodded submissively, stepping out of the way.

With a soft poof of thick grey smoke, Selka transformed smoothly into her massive, majestic wolf form. Can you climb up, dear? her voice echoed gently through their shared telepathic link.

Nuan nodded weakly. She slowly pushed herself up, unfastened her dirty leather loincloth skirt, and carefully laid it across Selka’s thick back like a protective mat so she wouldn’t soak the wolf’s beautiful fur in blood. Then, she painfully dragged her body onto Selka’s broad back.

"Please... don’t run fast," Nuan murmured, her forehead resting against the soft fur of Selka’s neck. "My lower back and my stomach... it hurts so bad." She hugged the wolf’s neck tightly, closing her eyes as another cramp flared.

Don’t worry, little one. I will take a very gentle walk to the river, Selka rumbled back softly, her massive paws padding silently out of the den and into the morning light.
