The memory filled her face with rage. Her body instantly tensed as if covered in sharp thorns, her guard shooting up as her eyes burned with hatred.
"Murray was going to pursue me, but I have no idea what was wrong with her. She just had to think that Murray liked her."
"She insisted on competing with me. We even made a bet to see who Murray would ultimately choose, and he chose me!"
"She’s jealous of me, so she did something this vicious! I should’ve known. Nothing good ever comes from the countryside!"
Her last statement was a bit of a sweeping generalization.
Su Nian frowned, feeling the urge to point that out.
But then she remembered she had already turned off the livestream. ’If my followers heard that, they would cause an uproar,’ she thought. ’They’d tear this girl to shreds.’
"Have you been to a hospital to get it checked?"
Su Nian tilted her chin up slightly, changing the subject. But her question only made the girl even more furious.
An Ruxue shouted, "Of course I have!"
"I’ve been to so many major hospitals, and they actually said I was having a skin allergy! Or that it was some kind of insect bite! That’s bullshit! How could an insect possibly bite my face like this? It’s obvious that bitch Liu Yinyin did this to me!"
"She deliberately used some evil art to harm me!"
Su Nian nodded slightly, her eyes turning a shade deeper, holding an unreadable expression.
She glanced at her casually, then fell silent.
An Ruxue paused before adding, "I went to a doctor right after my face was bitten. That quack was completely useless. He made me pay a ton of money for a bunch of tests, only to tell me it was an insect bite in the end! Master, do you think that’s even possible?"
An Ruxue pointed at her face excitedly, her expression seething with rage.
The scars on her face were starkly visible. Now, with her emotions running high, her features twisted into a ferocious grimace, making her look both terrifying and grotesque.
Su Nian, however, remained completely unfazed by the sight. She simply took the opportunity to examine the girl’s face more closely.
The scarring on her face was horrific. It started from just below her eyes and stretched down to her chin, resembling a huge, red mask made of scar tissue.
It covered the lower half of her face. As Su Nian looked closer, she saw that the scarred area was a mangled ruin of flesh. In the deeper parts, she could even glimpse the faint white of bone.
"You went to the doctor. How did he propose to treat it?"
Su Nian asked.
At Su Nian’s question, the girl grew even more furious.
Her voice trembled with agitation. "That quack actually suggested I have it surgically removed!"
The more An Ruxue spoke, the angrier she became, until even her breathing grew ragged.
"Remove it, my ass! If I had part of my face cut off, wouldn’t I become a monster? I wanted him to heal my scar, not turn me into a freak!"
Su Nian listened, a thoughtful expression on her face. But then she changed tack. "If this happened to a normal person, they’d probably suspect it was caused by some sort of chemical. Why are you so certain that your roommate used an evil art to harm you?"
’Suspecting her roommate is understandable,’ Su Nian mused internally, ’but why is she so certain it was an evil art?’
’She’s a college student, after all, with a higher education. Shouldn’t her first suspicion be that her roommate used some kind of chemical?’
The girl gave an awkward laugh.
She looked a bit sheepish. "Well, she comes from a small town... I’ve heard they have a lot of things like Poisonous Insects and what-not there, so that’s what made me suspicious."
"Is that so?"
Su Nian raised an eyebrow, her voice low and her eyes as deep as an abyss.
Those calm, cool eyes seemed capable of piercing through everything to see the world’s fundamental nature and truth.
An Ruxue immediately grew flustered.
