Chapter 294: Chapter 296: Softie
As he spoke, the punk tried to look cool, flicking his hair back before pulling out a cigarette and taking a disdainful drag.
Huang Mao, who was standing beside him, laughed contemptuously. "And this cigarette? I took it from your shop!"
Wang Bai’s face darkened, turning as black as soot.
"You stole from my shop again!"
"That’s right! Who told you to close up so early? I wanted to pay, you know. But with the door shut, I had nowhere to leave the money. What could I do? The cigarettes just insisted on jumping into my pocket."
Huang Mao laughed, again trying to look cool as he flicked his hair, then took a long, satisfied drag from his cigarette.
Wang Bai clenched his fists tightly. He couldn’t take it anymore.
His voice trembled slightly. "Aren’t you afraid I’ll call the police?"
"Huh?"
Huang Mao let out a malicious laugh. His sharp, simian features were repulsive.
"I’m a minor! The most they can do is lock me up for a few days! But you’d better watch your back. When I get out, you’re the first person I’m gonna kill! I heard your wife’s pregnant?"
[Damn, this guy’s a total piece of shit!]
[The world is full of all sorts of trash!]
[Calling the cops is useless against people like this. You have to beat him down, beat him until he submits completely!]
[Huh? But what if he calls the cops!]
[Don’t worry, these little punks have no real power, but they’re all about their ’street code.’ They’d never call the cops because they think it’d make them lose face!]
And what this comment suggested was exactly what Wang Bai was preparing to do.
He had called the police too many times. They were just considered minor disturbances, and the punks would never be locked up for long.
And when they got out, they would be even more brazen.
They hadn’t set the fire they threatened to today, so even if he called the police, the punishment for a few minors wouldn’t be too severe.
Wang Bai lifted his head and looked toward the stairwell. The cavalry had arrived.
Wang Bai was an adult and knew where to draw the line. He glanced at the pile of junk behind him.
He grabbed a piece of cardboard and charged forward.
"You little bastards, I’ve had enough of you! Today, I’m going to teach you a lesson!"
"Whoa there, you think you can take on the three of us?!"
But the punk had barely finished speaking when he realized something was wrong.
He heard the sound of clubs from behind him. He spun around, startled and confused, to see a large group of residents glaring at them, brandishing sticks and brooms.
Some even held mops and kitchen cleavers. They were all blocking the stairwell, their eyes practically shooting fire as they stared down the three punks.
Wang Bai walked to the front and silently closed the door behind him.
His calloused hands gripped the piece of cardboard tightly. He carefully instructed the people behind him, "Teach them a good lesson! But don’t kill anyone!"
Seeing that things had taken a bad turn, the three punks were instantly on alert.
Their leader, Brother Jie, grinned foolishly, his tone fawning.
"Everyone, there must be some misunderstanding, right?"
The words had barely left his mouth when a large piece of cardboard smacked him on the head.
Immediately after, the crowd surged forward as one.
They had the numbers and surrounded the three young punks, forming a circle as tight as an iron drum.
"Teach them a good, long lesson!"
It’s unclear who shouted it first, but everyone roared in agreement and swarmed them.
After a few rounds, it seemed like every resident in the building got to land at least one slap.
They quickly wrestled the three to the ground, pinning them so they couldn’t move an inch.
"Brothers! Sisters! Let’s just talk this out!"
"AAAAHHH!"
"Ow, it hurts so much! Waaaah!"
Under the residents’ assault, the young punks’ gangster dreams were quickly beaten out of them.
So you want to join the triads?
Then we’ll beat you until you submit!
The incident finally ended with the three punks, bruised and swollen, limping away as fast as their legs could carry them.
Wang Bai let out a sigh of relief. He was a man with some spirit, and being pushed around by these little punks had been deeply humiliating.
But now, back in his apartment, he started to feel anxious.
"Master, do you think they’ll retaliate even more brutally in the future?"
Su Nian sat in her chair, her expression calm and her demeanor one of mild disinterest.
"They won’t. Don’t worry. After a beating like that, they won’t dare come back to this neighborhood again."
Su Nian had also read the faces of the three punks. One of them had been scared straight, realizing that being a gangster wasn’t as easy as he thought.
He would turn over a new leaf and learn a trade. As for the other two, one was still determined to achieve his dream of becoming a triad boss, but after this battle...
...word got out about what happened in this residential complex, and the residents gained a reputation for being fierce.
He tried to act as arrogant and domineering as before, but he was only ever met with clubs.
The other one would get married soon and be kept on a very tight leash by his wife.
Wang Bai didn’t know all this, but hearing Su Nian’s reassurance, he finally felt at ease.
After thanking her profusely, he left the live stream.
[These punks are young, but they sure know how to make their presence felt.]
[They’re all just young dropouts who don’t know anything.]
[I bet they’ve watched too many movies. They really think they’re the top dogs of Tongluowan.]
Su Nian read the comments, a faint smile on her face.
"Alright, let’s open today’s third lucky bag."
As she spoke, she fiddled with her phone.
Soon, a bouncing lucky bag icon appeared in the center of the screen.
[Me, me, me!]
[I’m definitely going to get it!]
[It’s gotta be me!]
The viewers’ excitement flared in an instant, their fingers tapping furiously at their phone screens.
It was as if they were trying to tap right through the glass.
Even after the result was announced, many fingers were still tapping reluctantly at the screen.
[Congratulations to Ruan Ruan for getting the streamer’s lucky bag!]
[It’s not me again!!!]
[Pfft, who cares? It’s just a stupid lucky bag.]
[I’m so pissed, why wasn’t it me again!!!]
[AAAAAHHH!! I’m losing it! Descending into madness! I NEED THAT LUCKY BAG!!!]
Meanwhile, Su Nian sent the winner a message. It took a while for them to reply.
[I’m ready. We can start the video call.]
Su Nian immediately initiated a video call with them.
The screen split in two. On one side was Su Nian, and on the other was a young man named Ruan Ruan.
He was flashing a big, cheerful grin.
Su Nian frowned, her eyes fixed on his face.
Ruan Ruan remained cheerful and even started greeting the viewers like they were old friends.
[Why is his name Ruan Ruan? I thought it was going to be a cute girl!]
[People love to be ironic these days, but this is a bit much for me to handle!]
[I don’t get it. Even his profile picture and room are all cutesy pink. He’s not some kind of pervert, is he?]
A flicker of something passed through Su Nian’s eyes. Her sharp gaze swept over the man from head to toe. After a long moment, she spoke, her tone cold.
"Please pay the divination fee first!"
