Chapter 291: Chapter 200: Soul Pet
Yang Chunxi was no stranger to such a look. She knew that, at times, she looked at Rong Yang the very same way.
Yang Chunxi patted Gao Lingwei’s shoulder. "Alright, you two get ready. Wait here for Coach Xia."
"Aren’t you going?" Gao Lingwei asked curiously.
"I won’t go," Yang Chunxi said with a smile. "He’ll come find me if he has time. If he doesn’t, my being there would just put him in a tough spot."
Gao Lingwei pursed her lips, her feelings a complicated mix as she watched Yang Chunxi walk back to the Martial Arts Hall.
It was summer vacation, and Yang Chunxi’s only task was to lead the students in the Outer Region’s placement matches. But it was still too early for that, so she had plenty of time to herself.
’Is this silent waiting also a form of companionship?’
Gao Lingwei had no idea that Yang Chunxi had already made up her mind. In a few years, after Rong Taotao graduated, she would probably join the Snow Burning Army herself.
Whether she would end up going as a teacher on assignment from Pine Soul Soul Martial or simply resign to enlist—that was a matter for another day.
"Da Wei, I did it!" Rong Taotao came up beside Gao Lingwei. Seeing her lost in thought, he followed her gaze to the empty entrance of the Martial Arts Hall. "What are you looking at?"
"Hm?" Gao Lingwei snapped out of it. She looked at the oblivious Rong Taotao and said softly, "It’s nothing."
Though she said it was nothing, she reached out and smoothed Rong Taotao’s soft, naturally curly hair. "Coach Xia is coming to pick us up and escort us to Wall One. Your brother got your Soul Pet approved."
"It seems the Snow Burning Army really values the Soul Skill you created."
"Well, of course~" Rong Taotao shook his head, messing up his natural curls again. He was used to the cold wind blowing through his hair and actually liked the messy feeling. He grinned. "When’s Coach Xia getting here?"
"I don’t know. Let’s go get changed first."
"Let’s go."
The two returned to the Martial Arts Hall and put on thick, white down jackets. Just as they stepped outside, they saw Xia Fangran standing on the Martial Arts Arena, hands on his hips, giving Rong Taotao a look of utter exasperation.
"Hey, Coach Xia!" Rong Taotao waved.
"I pick you up from the airport, act as your driver, your teacher, your medic, and your bodyguard. I finally get two days off, and I still have to escort you to Wall One?" Xia Fangran grumbled. "Are you determined to torment me and only me?"
Rong Taotao was silent for a moment before cautiously venturing, "Is it because you love me, Coach Xia?"
"Get lost!" Xia Fangran let out an exasperated laugh. He summoned a Snow Night Shock and swung himself onto its back. "Keep up!"
Gao Lingwei quickly summoned her own Snow Night Shock, and the two of them rode together on its back, swiftly chasing after him.
Luckily, it was summer vacation. Otherwise, they’d probably be thrown in detention for daring to gallop through campus like that.
For a journey of over fifty kilometers, Xia Fangran managed to get them from Pine Soul Soul Martial to the outskirts of Hundred Corps Pass in just over half an hour.
Rong Taotao and Gao Lingwei were fine. After all, with their high-level Soul Techniques, they weren’t particularly bothered by the cold wind. The problem was that the Hu Bugui they were riding couldn’t take it!
It was supposed to be a horse, but it was so tired it was panting like a dog. When they stopped at the gates of Hundred Corps Pass, Hu Bugui’s tongue was even hanging out as it gasped for breath...
Rong Taotao genuinely felt bad for Hu Bugui, but... well, he really couldn’t help but laugh.
Gao Lingwei’s Lifebound Soul Beast was only a few years old. How could it possibly compare to Xia Fangran’s "Divine Beast"?
She recalled Hu Bugui with a pang of pity, shot Xia Fangran a look of disapproval, and followed him inside Hundred Corps Pass.
In a stone house, Rong Yang was already waiting. With him was the adorable Miss Mao Rabbit.
This time, she wasn’t wearing a mask, revealing a chubby, doll-like face. It was the first time Gao Lingwei had seen her senior’s true appearance, and she couldn’t help but stare for a few extra moments.
The masked Mao Rabbit and the unmasked version of her truly seemed like two different people.
Under Gao Lingwei’s unabashed gaze, Mao Rabbit, the senior, actually grew a little shy, her cheeks flushing red.
’What an enigmatic woman...’
’You had to be at least a Soul School to get into the Twelfth Squad. For someone that powerful to be unable to handle a simple gaze... was it... cute?’
"Tsk, tsk... I was wondering why we had to come all the way to Wall One for you to absorb a Soul Pet. You’ve really got some brother, kid, huh? He managed to get you a Snow General Candle?" As soon as Xia Fangran walked in, he saw a tiny general standing on the table.
Rong Yang smiled. "You’re joking, Coach Xia. The Soul Skill Taotao created is extremely valuable. This is his reward from the Snow Burning Army."
"Huh? A reward for creating a Soul Skill?" Xia Fangran paused, stunned. "Then isn’t the Snow Burning Army just being cheap?"
"If it were a personal gift from you, that’d be one thing. But as an official reward for creating a Soul Skill, shouldn’t you be offering up a Frost Beauty cub?"
Rong Yang’s mouth twitched awkwardly. He repeated himself, "Coach Xia... uh, you’re joking."
"The Frost Beauty can’t be taken beyond this wall. Neither her Soul Pearls, her Soul Skills, nor the Soul Beast herself are permitted to enter society. She’s far too dangerous."
Rong Taotao couldn’t care less about any of that. He rushed to the table, and stars practically shot from his eyes as he gazed at the miniature general before him.
’This little fatty... Er, okay, the cub form of a Snow General Candle really is a chubby little guy.’
