"Where did these rebels come from? Doesn’t Yanzhou have a garrison? How could they let the rebels just take over?" his companion asked in disbelief.
"I heard the rebellion was started by people from something called the True Mother Sect. That sect is sinister! Their Sect Leader claims to be the son of the Mother of Non-Birth, sent to save the suffering masses!" the man continued.
"The Mother of Non-Birth? I think I’ve heard of her. A relative of mine was acting all fanatical a while back, and then his whole family just disappeared! Could it be he got involved with this True Mother Sect?" his companion said.
"I’ve heard of the True Mother Sect, too. Apparently, many people in the north believe in it! I hear that as long as you’re a member, everyone helps each other out. A lot of starving people have joined!" another man at the table chimed in.
"Anyway, the True Mother Sect raised a rebel army of hundreds of thousands! The Yanzhou garrison only has, what, a few tens of thousands? Plus, a lot of locals in Yanzhou are believers. With help from the inside, the city fell in just half a month!" the tall, thin man continued.
"So the Court isn’t sending troops? They’re just going to let the rebels occupy Yanzhou?" one of them asked doubtfully.
"Isn’t the Court at war with the Great Yan Kingdom? Where would they find the troops to deal with rebels?" someone said, shaking his head.
Suddenly, a man at the next table shot to his feet and shouted at them:
"What the hell do you know?! We won! The Great Yan Kingdom’s soldiers have all retreated!"
