Chapter 84: Chapter 84 She Tried To Prevent Them
Phoebe’s POV
"Mason, please tell me who else is involved with the Movement," I begged her. "We can approach the king and request mercy. Please, this won’t end well. You won’t succeed in removing Perry from his throne. He has Kevin now—alpha Kevin is one of the instigators, isn’t he?"
Mason refused to answer. Instead, she stared at me with disbelief, as though I’d committed some unforgivable sin.
"I’m not telling you a damn thing," Mason snapped. She appeared willing to sacrifice everything for her revenge.
But I couldn’t let her do that. "Mason, please consider the current situation. Dying won’t benefit you long-term. Will the Movement members save you if things go that far?"
Mason’s face crumpled with sadness. "I don’t expect them to save me. Even if I must die, I’ll die with satisfaction, knowing I died for something meaningful."
Her words left me speechless. She sounded completely detached from reality.
"Mason, Perry has captured both Kevin and my father. Whatever plan the Movement has must be delayed." I couldn’t lose Mason. If things went wrong, she’d be exposed. I didn’t care if Perry killed Reginald—I’d gladly accept that—but not Mason. "Please, I need you to survive."
"If surviving means spending another day in this palace, I refuse." Mason’s eyes hardened with fierce emotion and determination. "I want him dead."
I realized immediately that nothing I said would change her mind. We were destined to walk separate paths.
"I’m sorry it has to end this way, my lady."
Mason looked genuinely heartbroken. "The time I spent with you was precious. I’ll treasure it forever."
She swallowed hard.
My heart felt unbearably heavy as I looked at her and nodded. I couldn’t find words for a moment like this, knowing our friendship was over.
It had been so long since I’d had a female friend—any friend at all—so losing her cut deep.
Before I could leave the room, we both heard chaos erupting outside, followed by knocking on the door.
Mason and I exchanged glances, uncertain whether to answer since something major seemed to be happening.
"Open the door. Palace warriors."
I frowned but walked over to answer. "What happened?" I asked. The warrior looked flustered finding me there.
"My lady," he greeted me, bowing slightly with proper respect before explaining his presence. "We need to search the room for dangerous substances."
Mason’s heart must have been racing when she heard that, and I immediately understood our predicament. I turned to look at Mason, my stomach dropping as my worst suspicion proved correct—she was hiding poison bottles in her bedroom.
Before I could collect myself, the warrior had already stepped inside. "Excuse me," he said.
"Wait..." I spoke without thinking, stopping the warrior, but when he turned with a questioning look, I had no idea what to say.
*Say something. Say something.*
I forced my brain to produce a reasonable excuse to get them out while Mason paled, staring at the floor, fidgeting and visibly shaking.
"Is this the king’s order? You can’t just enter a woman’s bedroom like this." The excuse sounded pathetically weak.
"Yes, this is a direct order from the king," the warrior confirmed.
With that, I had no way to stop him.

**Perry’s POV**
"They found the poison," Timothy announced. As royal gamma and head of palace warriors, all intelligence flowed through him first.
"What is it?" I immediately caught the expression on my royal gamma’s face. Something was wrong—I could sense it.
"There’s something you need to know, but don’t jump to conclusions before asking questions," Timothy said, avoiding my gaze, which only increased my impatience.
"What is it?" I repeated, rising from my seat and approaching Timothy.
"They found the poison in Mason’s bedroom," Timothy explained. When he mentioned the name, I showed no change in expression, indicating I didn’t recognize it.
Timothy clarified, "Mason is the omega you assigned as Phoebe’s personal maid."
I recalled the woman but hadn’t paid attention to her name—several people shared it.
"So?" My eyes darkened. "Are you telling me she’s been poisoning my mate?" I would kill that woman myself if it were true.
"I don’t know. I’m not certain." Timothy shook his head. "I’ve ordered the warriors to bring them here instead of the throne room, thinking you’d want to handle this personally."
"Them?" I couldn’t make sense of Timothy’s rambling.
"Phoebe was in Mason’s bedroom when the warrior searched the area, and she tried to prevent them from taking Mason away."
I closed my eyes. "Because she’s fond of the girl."
"But there’s more..."
