Chapter 139: Chapter 139 The Queens First Command

Phoebe’s POV

"D-don’t move... don’t..." Alpha Howard’s voice cracked with terror. "I-I don’t..." Fear choked off his words as death loomed over him.

His claws bit into my neck, drawing blood, but I felt nothing through the numbness that fear brought. My body had gone cold, disconnected from the pain.

My gaze locked with the beast’s electric blue eyes. He stood motionless, then crept closer with predatory grace, studying the situation like a hunter calculating his strike.

"I will... I will let her live if you let me go..." Howard’s grip tightened as he dragged me with him, his ragged breathing hot against my ear as he fought to steady himself.

The other alpha’s heart must have stopped when the king passed by him. He probably expected death, but the beast’s focus was entirely on me. Everyone else had ceased to exist.

Alpha Wallace should have bolted, should have seized his chance to escape, but his legs had turned to stone. Terror had paralyzed him completely. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

He had no one to blame but himself for his stupidity. He should have refused them more firmly, should have resisted their influence.

Now all those people were dead, and his execution was only a matter of time.

Howard kept threatening the beast king because he had no other cards to play.

His anxiety made his grip crush tighter around my throat, sending fresh waves of agony through me.

Blood flowed from the wound, coating his trembling hand, but he seemed oblivious to it. His eyes remained glued to the king, unable to look away.

"No... I will kill her... I will..."

For one frozen moment, his entire body went rigid, as if every nerve had short-circuited, but that split second was all the king needed to launch forward and bring him down.

In the next heartbeat, the beast’s jaws clamped around Howard’s skull, denying him even the chance to shift before crushing the life from him instantly.

Perry’s POV

Once the alpha was dead, I shifted back to human form and stalked toward the last remaining threat.

Alpha Wallace could taste his death approaching. His heart hammered so violently I could hear it from across the room. Words had abandoned him entirely.

He had zero chance against me in combat.

The room offered no escape routes.

All he could do was wait for the end.

He’d accepted his fate, though regret poisoned every breath he took.

My footsteps echoed like a funeral march. Each step brought him closer to oblivion.

But then I stopped. Alpha Wallace squeezed his eyes shut, bracing for death.

The killing blow never came. The room held its breath, too terrified to make a sound.

Seconds ticked by with nothing happening, so the alpha found enough courage to lift his head and see why I’d hesitated.

I’d stopped because my mate had grabbed my pants. She was shaking like a leaf, blood still seeping from her neck wound, but her grip was iron-strong as she held me back.

She shook her head, her eyes begging me to show mercy.

I stared down at her, my expression unreadable. My jaw clenched as I weighed my options.

Bloodlust flared in my chest for a brief moment before fading. I was torn between my killer instincts and surrendering to my mate’s plea.

For Alpha Wallace’s sake, she won.

I bent down and scooped Phoebe into my arms, carrying her from the room and leaving the survivors kneeling in my wake.

——

Elder Tricia was first to stand after Perry left, followed by the other elders and remaining alphas.

Nobody spoke. They were still processing the carnage they’d witnessed.

Even with the king gone, his overwhelming presence and the tension he’d left behind still choked the air.

Elder Tricia walked over to Alpha Wallace. "You need better judgment going forward." He didn’t scold the young alpha, but his tone carried steel. "You’re an alpha now. Your choices affect your entire pack."

Alpha Wallace nodded quickly.

He’d just inherited leadership of Bloodmoon Moon pack. At twenty-two, he was still green, having become alpha only because his father had died of old age.

The previous alpha had sired him late in life. It would be tragic if his first mistake as leader brought disaster to his pack and cost him his life.

"Wh-what should I do...?"

Alpha Wallace might have escaped death today, but he wouldn’t stay free from the king’s reach if Perry decided he wanted him dead.

"Pray the future queen can keep the king’s rage in check."

Perry’s POV

Marcela bandaged Phoebe’s neck while I watched every move she made. The healer was scared senseless that one wrong touch would cost her head. She’d heard about the massacre in the dining hall.

She couldn’t call my reaction excessive since those fools should have known better than to insult my mate.

What did they expect would happen?

"She’ll be fine, my king."

"Get out."

Marcela didn’t wait for a second command before fleeing the room, deliberately ignoring Phoebe’s pleading eyes begging her not to leave us alone.

But what choice did the healer have? I wouldn’t kill Phoebe because she was mine, but Marcela was just another replaceable servant.

Once Marcela vanished, I moved closer to my mate.
