Chapter 134: Chapter 134 The Kings Burning Touch

Timothy had successfully seized half of the Obsidian Claw pack territory, but advancing further required waiting for backup to arrive.

His forces had eliminated their gamma—Darius from Obsidian Claw pack—yet the chance to take down both Reginald and alpha Sterling slipped through their fingers when Crimson Fang pack reinforcements arrived just in time to turn the tide.

Frustration gnawed at Timothy. The locals knew every rock and tree better than his warriors, allowing them to vanish and strike from the shadows. While these hit-and-run tactics weren’t deadly, they were damn annoying.

"The reinforcement has arrived, royal gamma Timothy," Turner reported.

"Excellent." Timothy gave a curt nod before glancing skyward.

The sun blazed mercilessly overhead, the heat oppressive.

That’s when it hit him—this was exactly when Perry would be experiencing his flare. He wondered how the king was managing.

Still, Timothy took comfort in the silence from the palace. No bad news meant Perry was handling things well enough, right? Plus, elder Tricia was there, even if Flynn wasn’t around.

"Let’s move," Timothy commanded Turner.

**Phoebe’s POV**

"Don’t panic—this means the fever’s breaking," Marcela assured me. "The king’s condition will improve soon."

Fever rarely struck shifters, but when it did, our bodies responded differently than humans.

"Pile more blankets on him and let him sweat it out," Marcela directed, and I followed her instructions without question.

The healer offered to have someone else tend to him. Marcela wanted to call Lynn or Rosa to stay with Perry, but I refused. I’d handle this myself.

Besides, I feared for those girls’ safety.

Earlier, when an omega entered to bring food, Perry had erupted in fury, nearly hurling a flower vase at her.

Outside, elder Tricia was spinning tales about the king spending quality time with his mate, claiming we needed to decompress from the ongoing war debates.

Naturally, this sparked fresh controversy, but it beat having people think they were being led by an ailing king.

"In that case, I’ll leave the king in your hands. I’ll return in four hours," Marcela announced. She seemed eager to escape—Perry looked ready to murder her if she lingered another second.

Marcela’s frequent visits didn’t raise eyebrows since everyone knew we were close friends.

Once Marcela left, it was just Perry and me.

His body shook violently as he dragged me closer, practically burying me beneath his weight. He was incredibly heavy, and I felt like his personal body pillow.

"Don’t leave," Perry mumbled deliriously. His breathing came in harsh pants, making me wonder if Marcela had misdiagnosed him.

But when morning arrived, Perry’s temperature had dropped. His body wasn’t burning up anymore, though by then I was completely drained.

I hadn’t slept all night. Breaking free from his grip proved nearly impossible, and whenever I managed it, he’d wake instantly and search for me like a lost puppy.

If he weren’t so terrifying, I might have found him endearing. But with those murderous intentions lurking beneath the surface, cute was the last word I’d use. Even weakened, he remained utterly intimidating.

I pressed my palm to his forehead. The fever had broken, making me exhale in relief.

But as I pulled my hand back, Perry’s eyes snapped open, startling me. He caught my hand and kissed my knuckles without breaking eye contact.

When I didn’t react immediately, he grew bolder. Perry licked my knuckles, sending shivers racing down my spine and making my stomach flip.

I tried pulling away, but he wouldn’t let me. He kissed my wrist next, then began nibbling the soft flesh there.

What the hell was he doing?! 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

My mind turned to mush as he tangled his legs with mine, and I felt his morning arousal pressing against me.

My eyes went wide when Perry ’attacked’ my neck. Fire ignited within me. I should have shoved him away, but it had been too long since I’d felt his touch.

As humiliating as it was to admit, I’d missed being with him. The mate bond was to blame for these traitorous feelings.

I started breathing heavily as Perry licked the hollow of my throat, his tongue tracing along my collarbones. I could feel how wet I was becoming, and while I still couldn’t fully accept him, I couldn’t deny that I craved him.

There was something magical about your mate’s touch, and that’s exactly what coursed through me as Perry worked his way across my skin. I wanted nothing more than for him to continue.

I bit my lip, trying to ease the tension building inside me, but how naive to think that would help—it didn’t.

Now I was moving my hips, grinding myself against him shamelessly after trying to push him away moments before.

As if reading my mind, Perry lifted my right leg and positioned himself where I could feel him completely.

I sucked in a sharp breath when I felt the weight of his length nudging my core. I wanted him.

I wanted him inside me.

This was wrong, but I couldn’t think clearly as I gasped when Perry tugged down the hem of my dress and captured my nipple between his teeth. He bit down, then licked the spot to soothe the sting.
