Chapter 205: Chapter 205

Braden POV

Mindy, Maxim and Monroe look questioningly at me when I barge into their room without knocking.

“Dude, I know you saved us and all, but manners,” Maxim says, raising his eyebrows.

“We could’ve been in bed with our mate,” Monroe adds.

“I still wouldn’t give a shit,” I reply brusquely. “The alphas are in deep shit, and we need to get out of here.”

“What happened?” Monroe asks as they all jump up and gather their things.

“Fucking Mason,” I sigh, telling them everything.

“Good job on the truck,” Maxim smirks. “Fortunately, it’s stolen, and since you removed their fingerprints, there’s no way they’ll track it to the alphas.”

“Speaking off,” I say, pushing my fingers through my hair. “We’ll have to steal another vehicle. We must throw Mason off their scent.”

“Give me ten minutes,” Mindy smiles and runs past me.

“She steals cars?” I ask, raising my eyebrows.

“Picking locks is her hobby,” Monroe sighs. “She started studying the craft when we locked her in her room when she misbehaved.”

“And that developed into a skill which led to studying alarm systems,” Maxim adds. “There’s nothing that girl can’t unlock.”

“Good to know,” I smirk, impressed.

“And hell for us,” Monroe grunts. “We can’t contain her anymore.”

“Get your stuff,” Maxim says. “We’ll gather the alphas’ things.”

I nod and run to my room. Kane and I did not start on the best foot, but I am genuinely concerned for him. I am also concerned about Mason. Not about his well-being, but his skills and strength are uncanny. If Elara had not intervened, he would have killed both Kane and Axel. It is a pity he is the firstborn. Otherwise, he would not have received alpha powers, and then things would have been less bleak.

I join Maxim and Monroe outside, and Mindy runs towards us with a bright smile.

“It’s done,” she says, holding up a key.

“So, she can make keys as well?” I say dryly.

“Don’t be silly,” she giggles. “I saw a couple walking to the pool, so I entered their room and stole the key.”

“Honey, that’s an Audi’s key,” Maxim says patiently. “Those things have trackers. They’ll catch us in seconds.”

“Already deactivated,” she shrugs nonchalantly. “And no, the tracking company won’t receive a notification of deactivation. I took care of that, too.”

“How?” I ask curiously.

“I called them and said the car has a flat battery,” she giggles. “People should be more careful with their personal information when they leave their rooms.”

“Well, I guess that’s what you get for renting a cheap motel room with crappy security,” Monroe laughs, draping his arm around Mindy.

I press the remote and the indicators of a shiny, black Audi Q7 SUV blink twice. We climb in, and the engine purrs like a kitten when I start it.

“Mindy,” I say, turning around to look at her. “Well done, lady.”

“Thank you,” she grins from ear to ear, and I put the car in drive.

Axel POV

I watch the luxurious black car stop in front of the cottage, and Mindy runs towards me.

“How are they doing?” She asks, her voice trembling with worry.

“It worked,” I smile weakly, tired to the bone. It has been the longest hour of my life, but it worked. Kane pulled through.

“Oh, thank Goddess,” Mindy sighs, spontaneously throwing her arms around my waist and pressing her cheek against my chest. “I prayed nonstop.”

“Mindy,” Maxim snaps. “Protocol! You’re not allowed to be so familiar with the alpha.”

“Oh ... uhm, sorry,” she stutters, blushing slightly and stepping backwards.

“Nonsense,” I smile, draping my arm around her shoulders. “You care, and that means more than hierarchy. Which probably doesn’t exist anymore, anyway.”

“Can they travel?” Braden asks thoughtfully. “I don’t think it’s safe to stay here. Mason knows about this location, and your scent is all over the place.”

“I think so,” I nod. “They’re both sleeping. Elara carried Kane most of the way, and she gave him a lot of blood. She’ll be fine after a decent rest.”

“And Alpha Kane?” Monroe asks nervously.

“Honestly, I don’t know,” I shake my head. “He’s alive, which says something. His vitals are stronger, but he needs to shift, and he doesn’t have the energy to do so.”

“Do you think it will help if Elara gives him more blood?” Mindy asks hopefully.

“Maybe,” I reply. “But she can’t. She gave too much already. I also fed from her.”

“May I go to her?” Mindy asks.

“Yes, but be prepared, Kane’s lying next to her, and it’s not pretty,” I warn her.

“We’ll go with her,” Maxim offers, and I nod.

“I called Malachi,” Braden says when we are alone. “He’s reallocating everyone. They’re going to Canada, and he gave me the coordinates.”

“That’s good,” I exhale deeply. “I think we should go to his place. Mason will definitely show up there to get his kids, and I’m dying to repay a favour.”

“He might go to the Council and give them the location,” Braden warns. “With Kane out of commission, I don’t think it’s such a good idea.”

“He won’t,” I say firmly. “Not until he has his kids. He has no illusions about the subjects and won’t risk his children’s lives. They’re all he has left.”

“I hope you’re right,” Braden scoffs.

“It’s the only thing I’m certain of,” I reply dryly. “What I don’t know is his plan to get them. He’s not stupid enough to take on Malachi by himself.”

“Don’t you think you have him too much credit?” Braden laughs humourlessly. “He has done stupid things before.”

“Rule number one,” I say, looking Braden in the eye. “Don’t ever underestimate the enemy. Especially one who is fighting for the only thing he has left.”
