Chapter 200: Chapter 200

Kane POV

I groan in discontent when we are rudely awakened by a pounding on our door.

“Wake up, sleeping beauties,” Braden shouts. “It’s time to go.”

“Go away,” I groan. “I need more sleep, I’m not pretty enough yet.”

“There’s not enough sleep in the world to help you,” Braden chuckles. “You might as well consider vampirism.”

“Oh, for Goddess’s sake,” Axel snaps. “We’re up, just stop your yapping.”

“Do you think we have time for a quickie?” I sigh into Elara’s neck, stroking her naked breasts and stomach.

“Hmm,” she turns around, kisses me softly and strokes her fingers through my hair. “We’re never quick. So ... no.”

“Woman, you’re breaking my heart,” I protest as she gets out of bed.

“You’ll get over it when I make up for it tonight,” she laughs, walking to the shower. “Hurry up, I want breakfast before we leave.”

“Can we join you?” Axel asks as she steps into the shower.

“No,” she shouts, laughing. “For the exact same reason as I declined a quicky.”

Elara POV

We have been driving for hours, and it feels like my eyes are about to dry up and shrivel from looking for the office.

“Anything?” Kane asks patiently.

“I think so,” I reply, but I do not miss Mason’s sigh. I have recognised a couple of areas in the last three hours, and every time it was a false alarm. I understand his frustration, but for fuck’s sake, does he think I enjoy this? Or anyone else, for that matter?

Then, suddenly, the building pops up from nowhere.

“Stop!” I shout, and Axel hits the brakes. “There it is.”

“Are you sure?” Braden frowns beside me.

“Absolutely no doubt,” I reassure him. “Drop me off, I’m going in alone. I don’t want to draw attention to us.”

Axel parks the truck, and I climb over Kane’s lap and hop out. I fix my hair, take a deep breath, and walk towards the office. There is no one in the waiting room or at reception, and I walk to the examination room where I find Isolde behind her desk.

“Clear,” I mind link Kane and Axel. “It’s safe to enter.”

I knock softly on the open door, and she looks at me in surprise when she recognises me.

“Katie,” she says, standing up and walking towards me. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”

“Actually, it’s Elara,” I reply, smiling.

“You got your memories back?” She asks, flabbergasted.

“Yes,” I nod, and she pales when Kane and Axel join me.

“You can’t be here,” she says, her eyes wide and bewildered. “You bring death and destruction. You killed Rhiannon.”

“Isolde, it’s not true,” I reason calmly. “They were with me that night.”

“And me,” Braden adds as he joins us.

“Braden?” Isolde gasps.

“In the flesh,” he smiles charmingly. “And I give you my word, the four of us had a meeting that night. Kane was framed by the Council.”

“Okay, I believe you,” Isolde replies hastily. “But you still can’t be here. The Council is looking for you and has already attacked and almost burned down Stillwood.”

“Isolde, please,” I plead. “I need a potion, well, potions, and then we’ll leave and never return. I promise.”

“What kind of potions?” She asks, narrowing her eyes. “Because I’m still uncomfortable to ...”

“I’m begging you,” I cut her off. “We need help to overthrow the Council. Your generation fought the Great War. Now, it’s time for us to do the same, but we don’t have the allies and numbers you did.”

“She’s right,” Braden adds. “We’ll all end up either dead or the Council’s captives if we don’t stop them. Stillwood ... Isolde, you don’t know half of it.”

“Okay,” Isolde finally agrees after a moment of silence. “Which potions are you looking for?”

“The transmogrifying and truth potions,” I reply, relieved. “If there is such a thing as a truth potion.”

“There is,” Isolde nods, smiling. “But it’s rare and expensive. I have two, but I’m only willing to sell you one.”

“That’s good enough, thank you,” I accept. “We only need one. But may we get multiple transmogrifying potions? We’re going to need at least four.”

“Sure,” Isolde says, turns around and walks to a locked cabinet. “If we can agree on terms for payment.”

Her words make my stomach dive, and I look nervously at Braden and my mates. If she is going to be ridiculous with her payment terms, we will have to find another plan.

“What do you want?” Braden asks firmly.

“A test subject,” she replies nonchalantly. “A live one.”

“How do you know ...”

“We have ears everywhere,” Isolde cuts Braden off.

“You mean, you have witches working at the facility?” I bluff. It only makes sense because there is no way that she could know about them. Even if word got out after the subjects emerged, she would not know to call them test subjects.

“You know?” She asks, surprised.

“I guessed,” I admit, excited at the possibility that we can recruit more help. “And you just told me. Do you think your witch will help us?”

“I doubt it,” she shakes her head. “It’s too risky for him.”

“If he doesn’t want to be burned to a crisp, he’ll help,” Axel says sharply. “Because once we’re done with the facility, there’ll only be ashes.”

“Give me your number,” Isolde sighs. “I’ll ask him to contact you.”

“I think it’s best if they contact me,” Braden says, walking to her desk and writing down his number. “He’ll probably trust me more than the wolves.”

“Okay, so,” Isolde holds up the bottles of potions. “Do we have a deal?”
