Chapter 139: Chapter 139

Kane POV

The High Guards rush straight at us, and Elara turns to me.

“Here, take Stella,” she hands me our daughter. “Take her and Mason inside. I will keep them back for as long as I can.”

“I want to fight,” Mason grunts as Axel helps him onto his feet.

“You’re a bleeding mess,” Elara snaps. “Protect Stella, the rest of us will fight.”

“You heard the woman,” I say firmly. “Move!”

Elara steps forward, raises her arms and shoves her hands forward, sending a gush of wind at the guards, and they fly backwards into the trees.

Axel and I rush Stella and Mason inside. I place Stella down while Axel unties Mason.

“This is the best I can do now,” Axel points at the chains. “I clipped them with a side-cutter, but it’s going to take time to remove the shackles.”

“It’s fine,” he nods.

We run down toward the fallen border, where the guards are steps away from crossing.

“Elara, fall back,” I mind link. “We’re here.”

As effective as her plan is, she cannot keep this up indefinitely.

“Elara, guard the cabin,” I order. Truthfully, I would have preferred that she go into the cabin, but I know she will not have it. This is the closest I will get to keeping her safe.

“Axel and Braden. Take the guards,” I say as I shove one aside. “Father is mine.”

I shove and push my way through the guards, my eyes fixated on Father, grinning victoriously.

I glance at Braden, who is moving lightning-fast, running from guard to guard, delivering blows before they can blink.

Two guards are rushing at Axel, trying to weave past and into the cabin. Axel ducks to avoid the attack, then rounds on them and swipes his claws across their torsos. They stumble backwards, clutching their sides.

“Axel, look out,” Elara shouts, just before a guard in wolf form jumps him. He rolls out of the way, shifting as he tumbles through the dirt, and lands on all fours.

Axel growls and blindly attacks, biting and tearing at the guard’s flesh, only stopping when his body slumps onto the ground.

I finally fight my way through and stand between Father and the cabin.

“Get out of my fucking way,” he growls.

Around us, guards are flying, Braden and Axel taking them out as quickly as they can while Elara sends gusts of wind.

“No,” I flash my claws and my canines.

But Father is fast, and he knows me too well. All those years he spent training us have taught him to anticipate my every move. Without even putting his hands on me, he is dancing around me, just out of reach of my claws.

I launch myself at him and jump him from behind. He throws me off, his face red and wild with fury. I land with a crash, and he stands over me, vibrating with anger.

I kick at him, and he snarls as I try to roll over and push myself up, but he is faster. He kneels beside me, and his hands are at my throat before I can stand up again.

“Don’t make me do this,” he growls. “I’m not here to hurt you.”

“You’re here to steal my mate and my daughter,” I spat. “Obviously, you are trying to hurt me.”

He shakes me, his hands tightening around my neck, and my vision starts to blur.

“You don’t understand,” he cries manically. “I’m in too deep. I’ve done too many things, made too many mistakes. I can’t go back now.”

His grip tightens, and I feel myself drifting.

Elara POV

My heart is pounding wildly. I so desperately want to jump off this porch and into the fight. But I am the last defence. If I move, and someone slips past, Mason and Stella will be in trouble.

The entire area in front of me is soiled with tiny whirlwinds, and it gets harder and harder to control them and not to hurt Axel or Braden. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

I look at Kane and see him slipping away.

“Stop! You’re killing him.” I yell frantically. I must do something. “I’ll go with you.”

“Is that so?” Orion asks wickedly.

Goddess, I hate him with everything in me. I do not want to go anywhere near that slimy motherfucker. But I will tell him what he wants to hear to save the people I love.

“Yes,” I say. “If you let Kane go.”

Orion loosens his grip, and Kane gasps, his face a dangerous purple-red. He drops Kane onto the ground with a sickening thud. Orion raises his fist high and brings it down hard in the middle of Kane’s face.

“You son of a bitch,” I gasp, horrified, and sends him flying backwards with a gush of wind.

“It was just a little insurance,” Orion sneers, standing up and wiping his face.

“Ensure this,” I hiss, dropping my claws and fangs. I dive straight at him, knocking him to the ground.

“Kane, are you okay?” I ask, not taking my eyes off Orion.

“Yeah,” he coughs, getting up.

Orion growls, throws his head back and shifts. He snorts and glares at me, pawing in the dirt. I know he is going to attack soon, and I ready myself. I cannot shift, Orion is stronger than I thought, and I am unsure if I can beat him. But as a hybrid with power, I might have a chance.

Kane shifts and comes to stand beside me, but before anyone can make a move, Gabriella and Malachi join us.

“You picked the wrong mother to fuck with,” Gabriela sneers, before she shifts and launches herself at Orion. Kane follows her, and they both nip and bite at Orion while he thrashes around like a maniac.

I lift my hands, preparing to aim wind at Orion, when Malachi touches my shoulder and shakes his head.

“They need this,” he says softly. “There’s a lot of pent-up anger and resentment there that needs to come out. But be ready to help when they need it.”

Reluctantly, I lower my hands.

“One bite from him and I’m dead,” Malachi continues. “If I want to kill him, it needs to be a clean bite straight to the neck. I can’t do that if he’s writhing around.”

Orion shakes off Gabriela and towers over Kane menacingly. Kane is a huge wolf, but so is Orion. All the years of him being Alpha have served him well.

I clench my fists, drawing on my power. I bring my hands together, forming a tiny hurricane in my palm. With all my might, I direct it at Orion, hitting him in the chest, and he lands with a thud beside Kane. He whimpers, tries to stand up, but I jolt forward and jam my knee into his ribcage.

“Malachi, now!” I shout.

Malachi steps up to Orion, placing two hands on his furry chest to hold him down. Orion starts squirming, but I punch him in the gut and apply more pressure to his ribs.

Malachi opens his mouth wide, fangs shining, and sinks them into Orion’s neck.
