Chapter 354: one of a kind proposal
"Hey, stop crying." Suyin gently extended her fingers to wipe the tears from Wang Shi’s eyes.
He caught her wrist, stopping her, and kissed it softly. "I’m not crying," he chuckled through the emotions that threatened to overwhelm him. Pulling her closer, he whispered, "You’re too much, you know that? You’re the best."
"Of course I am," she grinned, waving her hand to beckon the family over. "So, where’s my ring?"
His nose scrunched slightly. "Uh... about that..."
"Exactly, Shishi. Get my daughter-in-law a ring," Liu Jeilan chimed in, joining them. Suyin coughed, still not fully adjusted to being called daughter-in-law by the Madam President herself. Wang Huang chuckled too, though he quickly cleared his throat as his wife shot him a glare. "What’s so funny?" she asked.
"You scared the poor girl, Liu!" he said, laughing, which only made the old lady’s cheeks flush crimson.
"Oh, shut up, Huang," she grumbled, before cupping Suyin’s hands in hers. "How long will you keep feeling awkward around me? Should I apologize again?"
"No, please," Suyin replied quickly, throwing a mock glare at the rest of the family, who were clearly enjoying the teasing at Liu Jeilan’s expense. "Seriously, stop it, all of you! You’re putting me in a tough spot." She turned back to Liu Jeilan, "Madam President, trust me—"
"Madam President?!" Liu Jeilan gasped in mock outrage. "No way! Sweetheart, you call me Mom now." She then glanced toward Suyin’s mother, standing nearby. "Your girl is impossible. Still calling me like I’m a stranger. Where’s that man...?" Her eyes scanned the room until they settled on someone standing a little further back. "Ah, come here! We can’t delay this any longer."
The man stepped forward, holding a file. He bowed respectfully before passing the file to Liu Jeilan, then quickly moved aside as Wang Huang leaned in to take a look. After a minute of reviewing the papers, the couple exchanged satisfied nods and handed the file over to Suyin’s parents.
Wang Shi and Suyin exchanged confused glances, both shrugging.
"Did you arrange this?" Wang Shi asked, to which Suyin shook her head.
Just then, they felt a tug on their clothes. Looking down, they saw Honey grinning up at them with the biggest smile, and a wink. "Credit goes to this genius."
Wang Shi raised an eyebrow. "What are you up to now?"
"Something you’ll thank me for," Honey replied proudly, patting himself on the shoulder. His mischievous grin gave away nothing, though.
Once the file made its way around the family, Honey strutted over to the dinner table set for the couple and dramatically laid the file open on the table. Climbing onto a chair for more height, he snapped his fingers. "What are you waiting for? Bring them over. We’re running out of time. There are only ten minutes left!"
Before Suyin or Wang Shi could ask what was going on, the family split into two groups—Suyin’s side and Wang Shi’s side. Each group then "escorted" their respective "candidates" to the table.
On Suyin’s side stood Zeng, Fei Hong, James, Evan, and her parents.
On Wang Shi’s side were Xiu Mei, Feng Jianyu, Yuyu, Lan, Junjie, Jin, Wang Huang, and Liu Jeilan. Even the furry babies joined Wang Shi’s team, wagging their tails happily as Yuyu and Lan fed them pieces of meat—bribes, obviously.
"Alright, what’s happening here?" Wang Shi asked, picking up the file from the table.
"Yeah, none of this was in our plan. Shouldn’t you all be leaving us alone by now?" Suyin added, her voice strained with exasperation. They were ruining the quiet night she had hoped for.
"Ducky, why are you so eager to kick us out?" Honey teased. "What exactly have you got planned?" The heat rushed to Suyin’s cheeks as she looked away, avoiding Honey’s knowing gaze. Zeng, James, and Evan were all struggling to hold back their laughter. James even winked at her.
’Corrupt minds,’ Suyin thought with a frown.
Feeling a tug on her arm, she turned to Wang Shi, who asked for her attention. She leaned in to read the contents of the file, and with every line, her heart skipped a beat. A warmth spread through her entire being as she realized what it was. She looked up to see Honey grinning from ear to ear, and for a moment, she thought she saw a tear glistening in his eye before he quickly wiped it away.
The file contained marriage documents.
"You...," Suyin started, but couldn’t finish the sentence. Instead, she spread her arms wide. "Come here, you naughty boy!"
Honey jumped from the chair and dashed into her arms. "You got this all set up for us," she said, not even needing to ask.
He buried his face in her neck, inhaling her familiar scent. "When you shared your plans, I came up with my own. Grandma and Grandpa helped, and Uncle Junjie made the last-minute arrangements." Pulling away, he took out a beautiful ring from his pocket. Suyin’s heart swelled with gratitude as she glanced at Wang Shi’s parents. But she couldn’t catch Junjie’s eye—he was standing further away from the group.
"Mom," Honey pinched the ring between his fingers, holding it out, "Will you be my mom?"
The question caught her off guard. Tears instantly sprang to Suyin’s eyes. Wang Shi frowned, glancing down at the mother and son. "Hey, that’s my ring!" he protested as Honey clutched the ring tightly when he tried to grab it back. "Brat, I love your plan, I really do. But you’re not keeping that ring. I bought it for Suyin months ago!"
"Too bad you never gave it to her," Yuyu teased as she and Lan approached, stuffing their piggy banks into Wang Shi’s hands.
Lan grinned, "We’re buying it for Honey."
Yuyu added with a cheeky smile, "Take mine too. We won’t let Uncle take it." Both girls looked so proud of their "contribution," believing the money in their piggy banks was enough to buy anything in the world.
Wang Shi sighed in defeat, hiding a smile. These kids were too adorable. And his son... well, his son was something else entirely. Honey had not only prepared the marriage documents but was now proposing to his mother in the most unique and heartfelt way possible.
"Mom..." Honey held the ring up again.
Tears streamed down Suyin’s face. "I’m already your mom, sweetie."
"Yes, but I want it forever and ever. Seal it with this ring. I want to see it on your finger."
Suyin smiled, her heart so full it felt like it might burst. She slid off her red lace glove and held out her hand. Honey stopped just before sliding the ring on, looking back at his grandparents. "Um, which finger?"
Everyone pointed to their own hands, shouting, "The ring finger!"
The beautiful diamond ring slid up her finger, shining brightly under the lights. This wasn’t just a bond between a man and a woman—it was the purest reflection of the love between a mother and her son.
Suyin kissed the ring before pulling Honey into her arms and smothering his cheeks with kisses. He blushed, the lipstick mark she left making him giggle.
"You two," Wang Shi crouched down, wrapping his arms around them. "Fine, I’ll buy another ring—"
"No, you’re not allowed to take this one off," Honey declared, wriggling out of the embrace.
Suyin laughed. "I won’t, Shishi!"
Wang Shi opened his mouth to argue but stopped short when he saw the serious expressions of the rest of the family. Almost everyone seemed to be on Honey’s side, leaving him no room to protest. Even Xiu Mei patted his back, placing another ring in his hand.
"Surprise!" Jianyu said with a grin. "Didn’t you notice Suyin gave you a couple’s ring? She planned everything!"
Suyin shook her head. "Everyone helped. I couldn’t have done it alone."
"How long have you been planning this?" Wang Shi asked, still in awe.
"Since the day I confessed my feelings," she replied. "I was just waiting for the right moment."
There was so much he wanted to say, but that could wait. Right now—he had a ring to give. Finally!
He studied the beautiful wedding band for a second. It was a rose gold ring with his fingerprint carved on top, his initials engraved inside, and a tiny diamond in the center. Simple, elegant, and perfect. But then his eyes narrowed slightly when he saw the ring Honey had already placed on her finger.
Suyin chuckled. "I’ll wear them both, on the same finger. They’re both special."
And with that, Wang Shi slid his ring next to Honey’s, setting it in place. Amidst the cheers and applause, he gently cupped Suyin’s face and kissed her softly.
"Oh no!" Honey suddenly shouted. "We’re running out of time. Sign the papers before midnight!"
Wang Shi laughed. "Why the rush?"
"Because I don’t want to wait a single day longer. Just get married already!"
With Honey practically pushing them to the table, Suyin and Wang Shi signed the marriage documents, followed by their witnesses. The papers were stamped, and it was official—Suyin and Wang Shi were now husband and wife.
As the government official handed over their marriage certificates, fireworks exploded in the sky, announcing their union to the world and the heavens above.
Wang Huang and Zhao Shu popped open bottles of champagne. "To our kids!"
James, having arranged everything, surprised Suyin with a full dinner table, beautifully set for the entire family. She had only asked for a private dinner for her and Wang Shi, but this turned out a thousand times better than she could have imagined. It was the perfect way to marry her "hottie bum."
