Chapter 1770: Chapter 1311: Death Mad and the Sword Maiden
Splosh.
Sonia fell into the deep sea, the impact slicing across her face, tightening around her waist and abdomen.
The seawater invaded her eyes and nose, the sour sensation spreading from her respiratory tract to her eyeballs.
Bubbles gurgled past her, escaping the water’s surface one after another, breaking, breaking, breaking... When the last bubble burst, Sonia could no longer hear any sound, as if the whole world consisted only of her and the pitch-black deep sea.
This is death.
Sonia felt a surprisingly serene calm in her heart.
Unable to hear anything, she need not worry about words.
Unable to see anything, she need not fret over reality.
Only herself alone sinking in the deep sea, making the whole world unrelated to her.
Her heart was empty, yet she felt an incomparable peace.
But she didn’t feel she had such a calm realization; the truth should be that all those passing through the Death Veil gain eternal tranquility. After all, death is already life’s greatest tragedy, and if one cannot escape the fetters of death after dying, that would indeed be too cruel.
Were it not for this beautiful serenity, Sonia felt she would be consumed by inescapable remorse right now. There was no reason not to regret; she was only twenty, she had many good friends, even if she did not ascend Heaven, she was a Demigod Mage above all mortals, she had many things she wanted to do, many places she hadn’t been to, her life had just begun... and now it abruptly ended here.
She was like a lonely meteor, a splendid firework. Even if she had shone and blossomed, the long solitude afterward would still hurt, at the end of the day, she was only a girl who had just turned twenty, how could she possibly be like those great figures who are willing even in death?
She was anything but willing.
So desperately wanted to live, so many plays left unseen, so many concerts left unattended, she hadn’t starred in a movie or show, she hadn’t become the idol of young boys and girls.
She wanted to continue being with the Witch and the others, even if they no longer needed to team up for adventures but managed Heavenly Kingdom instead, she still wanted to live with them. For her, Lissdia, Weiser, and even Vishi, were not just teammates, but family who lived and died together.
Also, she wanted... wanted...
Blub.
Sonia slightly opened her mouth and released a bubble, the sound of it rising gradually drifted away, and the storm within her heart returned to a calm.
On reflection, I’ve become so unlike myself.
Clearly owning an incredibly bright future, yet willing to gamble it all to raise the Heavenly Kingdom; clearly from the heart not wanting to confront the sly Divine Lords, yet daring to draw the sword against them without hesitation; clearly feeling life would be better without romance, yet still wanting to meet him.
If she hadn’t participated in this action, if she hadn’t raised the Heavenly Kingdom, although the team would have disbanded, she could have lived on earth the Dreams Come True life, Free Will, succeeding wishes, all beings bowing, heavens and earth submitting. And given time, it wouldn’t have been a problem for her to reforge an alliance with the Witch and the others — on earth, only they four were long-living Eternal Demigods, they were each other’s only kind, even huge contradictions were overcome by long solitude.
Today have free time to play with the Witch in Gospel, tomorrow if sleepless go talk with Silver Lamp in Senluo, the day after hearing about Vishi’s killing spree and Soul Refining go monitor if innocents were harmed, weekly gather for a tea party exchanging Magic insights. The Witch was most lively and adorable, Silver Lamp was taciturn, Vishi always liked to snipe and argue, they could talk all day without tiring... just thinking about it seemed very fun.
If only I hadn’t rescued Ash, if only I hadn’t thought about Ash, if... only without Ash.
But without Ash, there wouldn’t be the current me, neither would there be the current us.
Sonia had always felt memory loss was beneficial to her, forgetting Ash the jerk and his memories of being a jerk to her benefited her happiness. But now she felt it was a bit of a loss, because even with memory loss, she still adventured for Ash, like a girl in the throes of love, willing to betray everything, including her selfish self for the sake of seeing the one she liked.
After a simple white sheet is written with a love story, even if the story is wiped clean, the paper will still bear beautiful traces.
That would be better than losing memories.
If she hadn’t lost her memories, she could at least, like a silly girl, hug the happy memories and sink in death.
Drip.
She seemed to hear a drop of water hit the surface, splashing a gentle ripple. She felt that drop of water didn’t merge into the sea, but instead sunk all the way down, landing on the ring on her ring finger.
Only at this moment did Sonia notice she was wearing a wedding ring. She had so naturally ignored this detail, as if the ring on her ring finger was an unquestionable truth.
She saw a faint red line extend from the ring, through the pitch-black deep sea, connecting to a distant, unseen place.
An image suddenly burst into her mind.
In a clean and tidy single room, a young man obviously wearing prison clothes looked at her full of anticipation. Sonia knew at a glance he was Ash Heath, as he may not be particularly handsome, but his eyes held a clear foolishness, very much in line with the tone of the diary.
"So happy to see me? The Final Observer at this time would still fear loneliness, fear the unfamiliar prison, even treating me as a lifeline, if you don’t see me for a day panic sets in, like a little child..."
