Chapter 522: Chapter 522 Unbelievable Stupidity

Liam stepped back into the penthouse as though he had merely gone downstairs to buy snacks.

The city lights stretched beyond the floor to ceiling windows, painting the luxurious suite in soft gold and blue. The distant noise of traffic drifted faintly through the insulated glass while the expensive chandelier above cast a warm glow over the spacious living area. It was hard to believe that only minutes ago he had been standing in someone’s backyard watching a governor take his final breath.

His expression remained calm.

No tension.

No dramatic sigh.

He simply loosened the sleeves of his shirt and walked further inside like nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

He had barely taken two steps before a familiar voice rang out.

"There you are!"

Liam looked toward the bedroom.

Dickson shot off the bed so quickly that it looked like someone had lit a fire beneath him.

His eyes practically sparkled.

He marched toward Liam with the determination of a man who had finally found the answer to all his life’s problems.

Liam narrowed his eyes immediately.

That expression never led to anything good.

"What?" Liam asked cautiously.

Dickson reached him in seconds.

"Hey idiot," he said excitedly. "Ann told me you can see through walls."

Liam gave him a strange look before continuing toward the kitchen area.

He opened the refrigerator, pulled out a bottle of water, and answered casually.

"Yeah."

Dickson blinked.

"Yeah?"

Liam unscrewed the cap.

"Yeah."

Dickson stared at him.

"You can actually see through walls?"

Liam took a sip.

"I literally just said yes."

Dickson’s eyes widened.

His entire face lit up.

"Yes!"

He pumped his fist into the air.

Liam nearly choked on the water from surprise.

"Why are you celebrating?" he asked suspiciously.

Dickson suddenly became awkward.

His excitement faded.

He scratched the back of his neck and shifted from one foot to another.

"So..." he began.

Liam immediately sensed danger.

"So?"

Dickson coughed into his fist.

"This thing..."

"What thing?"

"The seeing through walls thing."

Liam leaned against the kitchen counter.

"What about it?"

Dickson lowered his voice.

"Does it work like... an X-ray?"

Liam thought about it.

"Something like that."

Dickson’s face exploded with excitement again.

"YES!"

The shout echoed throughout the penthouse.

Liam jumped.

"What the hell is wrong with you?"

Dickson suddenly looked embarrassed.

His face twisted into something halfway between shame and desperation.

"So..." he said carefully. "Can you help me..."

Liam didn’t even let him finish.

"Scan the stomachs of those two women and see if they’re actually pregnant with your babies?"

Dickson froze.

"..."

"..."

Liam took another drink of water.

Dickson pointed at him with wide eyes.

"How did you know?!"

Liam didn’t even bother turning around.

"Because I know exactly how your brain works."

Dickson looked personally attacked.

"You make me sound stupid."

"You asked me if my vision works like an X-ray."

Dickson folded his arms.

"Okay but you don’t have to say it like that."

Liam rolled his eyes.

"So that was what you wanted?"

Dickson nodded immediately.

"Yeah."

Liam screwed the bottle cap back on.

"No."

Dickson blinked.

"What?"

"No."

"What do you mean no?"

"I mean no."

Dickson looked horrified.

"Brother."

"No."

"Friend."

"No."

"My best friend."

"No."

"The godfather of my children."

Liam stared at him.

"Absolutely not."

Dickson’s shoulders slumped.

"You won’t help me?"

Liam looked genuinely offended.

"You want me to use my abilities to scan women’s stomachs because you’re too scared to ask for a pregnancy test."

"When you say it like that..."

"Because that’s exactly what you’re asking."

Dickson sighed dramatically.

"You have no loyalty."

Liam pointed at him.

"I have morals."

Then Liam paused.

He looked at Dickson thoughtfully.

"Besides."

Dickson’s eyes lit up again.

"Besides?"

"They’re only a few weeks pregnant right?"

Dickson nodded rapidly.

"Yeah."

Liam frowned.

"How many weeks?"

Dickson scratched his head.

"I don’t know exactly."

Liam sighed.

"You do realize that an embryo that early isn’t something you can casually identify right?"

Dickson blinked.

"Huh?"

Liam stared at him.

"Are you dull?"

Dickson gasped.

"Excuse me?"

"No X-ray is seeing that clearly at such an early stage," Liam explained. "You’re panicking over nothing."

Dickson’s expression slowly shifted.

"...Oh."

Liam folded his arms.

"When exactly did you sleep with them prior to when they told you that they were pregnant?"

Dickson thought carefully.

He counted silently on his fingers.

"About..."

He looked upward.

"Two."

He nodded.

"Or three days."

Liam froze.

"...What?"

Dickson looked innocent.

"Two or three days."

Silence.

Liam stared at him.

Dickson stared back.

The bottle slipped from Liam’s hand slightly.

"...Two or three days ago?"

Dickson nodded.

"Yeah."

Liam slowly raised the water bottle to his lips.

He took a large drink.

Then his eyes widened.

The next second...

Pffffft!

Water exploded from his mouth.

"Cough!"

He bent forward violently.

"Cough! Cough!"

Water sprayed everywhere.

He clutched his throat.

Some even came shooting out of his nose.

Dickson jumped back.

"Whoa!"

Liam pointed at him while choking.

"You..."

"Cough!"

"...Idiot!"

"Cough!"

Dickson frowned.

"What?"

"You slept with them..."

"Cough!"

"...two or three days ago..."

Liam straightened up with tears in his eyes.

"And they already told you they’re pregnant?!"

Dickson blinked.

"...Yeah?"

Liam stared at him.

Then he looked toward the ceiling.

Then back at Dickson.

Then back toward the ceiling.

His expression suggested that he was questioning the intelligence of the entire human race.

"You are the dumbest person I’ve ever met."

Dickson looked offended.

"Hey!"

Liam grabbed a napkin.

"Pregnancy doesn’t work that fast!"

Dickson frowned.

"It doesn’t?"

"No!"

"You sure?"

Liam pointed aggressively.

"You’re asking the wrong question!"

Dickson hesitated.

"Then... how does it work?"

Liam looked ready to pass out.

Before he could answer, footsteps approached from the hallway.

Lilith walked into the room.

She stopped immediately.

The beautiful blonde took in the scene before her.

Water covered the kitchen counter.

Water dripped from Liam’s chin.

His eyes were red from coughing.

Dickson stood nearby looking confused and mildly offended.

Silence.

Lilith slowly looked at one.

Then the other.

Then back again.

"What," she asked flatly.

"The fuck is going on?"

The entire penthouse went silent.
