Chapter 2409: Chapter 2408: She Goes to Accompany Her
"Mom, I can’t eat. Don’t worry about me. You should go back. Staying here won’t help much; I’ll stay here instead." Nangong Lin turned her eyes to Li Hui, unable to muster a smile. Her face was pale and unwell.
"How can that be?" Li Hui felt deeply sorry for Nangong Lin.
"Aunt Hui, please don’t persuade her," Di Mingzhe interceded for Nangong Lin. "It’s better to let her stay with Alvin. Trying to make her eat now would be futile."
Di Mingzhe, being young and deeply in love, understood Nangong Lin’s feelings.
Li Hui had been young once, and while she understood the reasoning, as a parent she felt the profound pain for her child.
Li Hui eventually nodded, sighing silently, "Alright then, go on, dear. You will surely wake Alvin."
"Okay." Nangong Lin responded softly and walked towards the ICU passage.
Once Nangong Lin left, Li Hui’s tears fell freely. She quickly wiped them away and said to Di Mingzhe, "Mingzhe, thank you for your trouble, and for taking the time to come here."
"Aunt Hui, please don’t say that," Di Mingzhe replied politely. "It’s what I should do. We’re all family, no need for formalities. Besides, Alvin is a prince of B Country, and having an incident in the Empire, I must come personally. So please, don’t worry about me; if there’s anything else you need to do, go ahead."
"Alright." Li Hui nodded, finding herself too distraught to continue exchanging pleasantries with Di Mingzhe.
Though there was nothing pressing for her to do, her mood was undeniably sorrowful.
Gu Qibao and the others stayed in the hospital room Nangong Lin had previously occupied, avoiding going out and facing her heartbreak, uncertain how to console her. Moreover, Nangong Ran was pregnant, and her emotional state needed to be kept calm.
When Li Hui returned to the room, everyone promptly inquired about the situation.
Li Hui conveyed the truth to them, and besides silence, all they could offer was comfort.
But comfort seemed only to be comfort—merely a collective earnest hope that didn’t truly alleviate anything.
After listening to their consolations, Li Hui said to Nangong Jin, "Xiaojin, please escort Mingjue and Mingchen out. Let them have something to eat, then disperse."
Everyone knew that staying here accomplished nothing; all that could be done was wait and pray.
Thus, they stood up one by one and bid farewell to Li Hui.
Nangong Jin and Di Jinxuan acted on behalf of Li Hui and Nangong Tiancheng to send them off.
The room was left with only Li Hui and Nangong Tiancheng. The couple looked at each other, at a loss for words.
With such an event, both Nangong Lin and her parents were heartbroken. Watching their daughter in distress was undeniably painful.
Yet no matter how much sorrow they felt, it ultimately solved nothing; they could only sit in silence and wait.
Nangong Lin proceeded into the disinfectant area of the ICU, donned the requisite care gown, and disinfected her hands, preparing to enter the ward.
A long corridor awaited her, filled with the scent of antiseptic, cold and desolate. She walked it alone—towards Alvin.
She hurried along, eager to see Alvin and converse with him.
But upon opening the ICU door and seeing Alvin lying on the bed, her throat felt painfully tight, leaving her unable to utter a single word.
