Chapter 1098: Chapter 1098: That Night, Too Afraid to Look Back [1]
Standing by the window, Nicole Seys quickly turned off her phone when she heard the noise, and looked at the entering Ariel Morris, her voice calm and composed: "Ariel, is there something you need?"
Ariel approached with a smile and said, "The elders of both the Seys and Cooper families are discussing your marriage with Steven Cooper. Why are you alone in the room?"
Nicole smiled faintly, "With Dad and Aunt Lily making the decisions, I don’t have to worry."
Ariel nodded, "True. Steven Cooper and the Coopers seem easy to get along with, intellectuals from a cultured family. When you marry them, you surely won’t be bullied. This marriage is really good."
"Yes, I think so too." Nicole smiled, though the light in her eyes was not as deep as the smile on her face.
Ariel gave Nicole a deep look and asked, "Can you forget the past?"
Nicole’s smile stiffened for a moment, then she smiled more gracefully and elegantly: "What past? I’ve forgotten most of my past, don’t remember anything. I think my future will surely be happy and fulfilled."
Ariel didn’t expose her, just gave her a deep look, "To forget is the best, and I hope you’ve really forgotten. Well, I’ll go downstairs to help entertain the Cooper family, it’s almost time for dinner. You should come down early. After all, you are about to get engaged to Steven Cooper, and it’s not right for the Cooper parents to be visiting without you being there. It can easily spoil the good impression you have in their hearts."
"Alright, I understand." Nicole nodded in agreement.
Ariel turned and went out.
Nicole stood by the window lost in thought, standing for quite a while before going downstairs.
-
The Cooper family left only after having a pleasant conversation with the Seys family over dinner.
Throughout the evening, Nicole sat quietly, listening to the families discuss her marriage to Steven Cooper, her face always holding a faint smile.
Unless Steven brought the topic to her, she only occasionally responded with a few words. Otherwise, she remained silent, yet still smiling.
So very tired, even more so than her training in the military, she was exhausted after seeing off the Cooper family, and as soon as she went upstairs, she fell onto the bed and drifted to sleep.
Her sleep was extremely uneasy, dreams pulling her back to those past memories, entangling her, refusing to let go.
-
In the dream, clad in a silk nightgown, she stood before the bathroom mirror, her smooth, black long hair cascading around her waist, her skin fair and delicate, her face flushed from the bath, lips red and teeth white, her entire being alluring.
A flower blossoming in youth, her best years, all given to that person.
She turned back to the bedroom.
In the spacious, luxurious main bedroom, there was a high-quality, soft big bed; she walked over, lay down, and reached her hand under the pillow.
A touch of coldness met her, ice-cold, stiff with a chill.
It was a dagger.
Her eyes glinted with cold and hatred, tonight, she would make that person pay!
And that person was Jose Floyd, the murderer of her brother!
She had lost so much just to get close to him and had successfully become his most cherished woman. This time the plan she had thought about for so long would be flawless!
As she was deep in thought, a sound came from the door, the handle was gently turned.
He’s here—–
She swiftly withdrew her hand from under the pillow, acting as if nothing was the matter, and got up.
"Jose, you’re back." Her voice was very soft, as gentle as water.
As she approached, Jose Floyd pulled her into his arms, the overwhelming scent of alcohol surrounded her, causing her to frown slightly, "You’ve been drinking? Then go take a shower, I’ll make you some hangover tea."
"Okay."
Jose Floyd’s hands gently traced her outline, his icy, arrogant eyes held a trace of soft light...
