Chapter 253: Incapable.
Adelyn lowered her eyes.
Money had never been the reason she wanted ti sever the ties with the Scotts.
Nor did she wish to profit from anything they once shared.
What she really wanted —
... was the clean ending.
Her lips slowly curved into a smile before she shook her head.
"I was never entitled to anything from them. So, I’m not looking for any compensation. An official letter of severance will be enough."
Lawyer Jonson frowned upon hearing that.
"Ms. Grace, compensation is what you deserve. Why wouldn’t you seek it from the Scotts?"
Adelyn shook her head once more. Then, leaning forward slightly, she said,
"Oh ... it took me a whole three years to settle what we owed each other. Now that everything has finally been settled, neither they nor I have any strings attached anymore."
She smiled faintly.
"So please ... don’t bring up the same idea again. I can’t bear to keep going around in the same circles."
Her reasoning made sense.
But ...
Lawyer Jonson parted his lips as though he wanted to say something. In the end, however, he simply clenched his fingers together and nodded.
"Alright. If that’s what you want, I’ll have someone draft the letter immediately. Once it’s drafted, we’ll inform you."
Adelyn nodded. Then, slowly pushing her chair back, she rose to her feet and extended her hand out politely.
"Then thank you for your help, Mr. Jonson. I’ll take my leave now."
Jonson stood as well and shook her hand.
"It’s my pleasure, Ms. Grace."
Then, as if something had just occurred to him, he asked,
"By the way, do you need us to deliver the letter to the Scott family on your behalf?"
Adelyn thought about it for a moment before shaking her head.
"That won’t be necessary, Mr. Jonson."
She wasn’t exactly loaded with money that she could casually spend on hiring a lawyer just to represent her before the Scott family.
Something as minor as delivering a letter...
She could handle herself.
With that, she turned and walked out of his office.
As the door closed behind her, Jonson remained seated, watching after her. His brows gradually furrowed again.
Settling back into his chair, he picked up his phone and dialed a number.
The call connected after only a few rings.
"She visited you?" Nigel’s voice came through from the other end.
Jonson nodded instinctively before replying,
"Yes, Young Master. She just left."
Nigel had already known she would be going, so the news didn’t surprise him.
Still ...
Something in Jonson’s voice caught his attention.
"What is it?" he asked.
"Young Master," Jonson began, his tone carrying a hint of concern, "I suggested that she seek compensation for everything she suffered because of the Scotts over the years. But ..."
"She refused?"
Jonson hummed in response.
"Yes. She said she was never entitled to anything from the Scotts. But how is that fair to her?" His brows knitted together. "Could it be that she still has a soft spot for those people? Does she still see them as her family? Is that why she doesn’t want them to lose even a little?"
Silence settled over the line.
Just as Jonson thought Nigel might be considering the same possibility, Nigel finally spoke.
"You’re overthinking it."
His voice carried complete certainty.
"They lost her softness the day they chose to favor someone reckless over her. Whatever remains between her and the Scotts now is no longer the love or care she once had for them."
The certainty in Nigel’s tone made it sound as though he had never doubted it for even a second.
Still, Jonson couldn’t completely let go of his own doubts.
"Then why did she refuse the compensation?" he asked. "The Scotts owe her that much, don’t they?"
Nigel chuckled softly on the other end of the line.
It was his usual knowing smile.
"That’s because she doesn’t need their petty compensation."
He paused briefly before adding,
"And even if she did ... the Scotts simply don’t have the capability to compensate her."
Only after hearing it put that way did Jonson realize he had overlooked something important.
The Scotts ...
Didn’t possess the means to compensate her in the first place.
Then why would she even bother asking?
But ...
Did she already know that?
"Enough."
Nigel’s voice interrupted his thoughts once again.
"If there’s nothing else, you can get back to work."
Jonson immediately understood.
Then, remembering something, he quickly added,
"She also wants to personally deliver the letter to the Scotts. Do you think that’s alright?"
Nigel considered it for a moment before answering,
"If that’s what she wants, let her do it."
"She can handle it herself."
"Understood, Young Master."
Jonson responded respectfully before hearing the call disconnect.
As he set his phone aside, his expression once again turned serious.
He didn’t waste another moment.
Instead, he immediately focused on doing exactly what was required of him.

Meanwhile—
After leaving the law firm, Adelyn returned to Sanctuary Heights.
She had originally planned to stop by her apartment first to pick up a few necessities.
But after giving it some thought, she realized there was no point.
After all, nothing was lacking at the Warren residence.
From toiletries to the few personal necessities she actually owned, everything had already been thoughtfully prepared and stocked for her.
Bringing anything from her apartment would only waste both time and effort.
So, instead of returning there, she headed straight home.
The moment she stepped inside—
A loud, yet incredibly soft and excited voice greeted her, instantly blurring everything else around her.
"Mama ... !!"
Before she could even react, a tiny figure had already wrapped herself around Adelyn’s legs, hugging her with all the love her little body could hold.
"You’re back."
Adelyn glanced down at her and could stop her heart from melting. Her hand reached to gently caress her hair before she hummed.
"Yes, I’m back. Did Baby Eira miss me?"
The girl didn’t wait and nodded immediately. "Eira missed Mama waiting all day long."
