Chapter 242: Officially involved.
Adelyn would be lying if she said she wasn’t curious to know more.
But she believed her curiosity was only natural.
After all, she had been searching for ways to escape the web of lies she had trapped herself in. And if the Second Young Master Warren was truly trying to introduce another woman to his brother ...
Then that would only work in her favor.
If he succeeded, she would be free without having to do anything herself.
She wouldn’t need to struggle or scheme her way out.
The situation would resolve on its own.
With that thought in mind, she leaned slightly closer to Karl and asked in a light tone, "Are you sure that’s exactly what he’s planning?"
Karl immediately frowned, his gaze fixed on his brothers as if he were watching enemies plotting something sinister.
"Of course, I’m sure, sister-in-law," he said confidently. "Jasper has always been the cunning one. He must be up to something. Otherwise, why would he suddenly suggest that Big Brother invest in Goldstem Productions’ upcoming movie?"
Adelyn stilled.
Goldstem Productions.
"He even managed to convince Big Brother by saying that the actress involved is both skilled and beautiful," Karl continued, clearly displeased. "Normally ... Big Brother wouldn’t agree so easily when it comes to money. But somehow, Jasper got him to sign the investment contract just the other day."
"And now," he added, narrowing his eyes slightly, "Big Brother is officially ... involved."
Karl leaned in a little closer, lowering his voice as if revealing some grand conspiracy.
"And today, he’s here asking him to attend a meeting. Is that even necessary?? Obviously not. This is just an excuse to create an opportunity for Big Brother to meet that actress from their production."
"Once that happens," he scoffed lightly, "he’ll definitely find more ways to push things further."
The way Karl pieced everything together—
It sounded oddly convincing.
Anyone listening might have believed him without much doubt.
But there was something in his words that caught Adelyn off guard.
Something that made her brows furrow slightly.
"Sister-in-law, you should do something. I’m with you. I—"
Before he could continue, Adelyn cut him off.
"What production house did you just mention?"
Karl blinked, momentarily thrown off. "Production house?"
Adelyn resisted the urge to knock his head.
Instead, she clenched her fingers lightly and rephrased her question with patience.
"You just mentioned it. What was the name?"
Karl frowned, scratching the corner of his brow as if the information had suddenly slipped out of his mind.
"That ... sister-in-law, I suddenly can’t remember."
Adelyn’s expression tightened. "You don’t remember?"
Was that even possible?
"Don’t tell me you have the memory of a goldfish."
Karl paused —and then suddenly snapped his fingers.
"Oh! I remember now," he said. "It’s Goldstem Productions."
Adelyn froze.
Before she could process that fully, Karl continued, eager to prove his point.
"I also heard Jasper mention that the movie is being directed by some famous, award-winning director —Camden Rhodes."
"They’re investing in The Empress’s Grief?" Adelyn asked almost immediately.
Karl hesitated.
Thinking hard, he tried to recall, but ultimately shook his head.
"I’m not sure about the title. I didn’t hear that part. Just Goldstem Productions and Director Rhodes."
Even without the title being confirmed—
Adelyn no longer had any doubts.
If it was Goldstem Productions and Camden Rhodes ...
Then it could only be The Empress’s Grief.
Her gaze instinctively drifted toward the two brothers once again.
They were investing ...
In the very project she was part of.
Was this ... just another coincidence?
It had to be.
But what intrigued her more now wasn’t the investment.
It was the "actress" Karl had mentioned.
Which meant—
The woman who was about to be introduced was someone she would cross paths with sooner or later.
"Sister-in-law, what are you thinking?" Karl asked, noticing her silence.
Adelyn snapped out of her thoughts and shook her head lightly.
"Nothing. It just made me curious."
"Curious?" Karl repeated. "About their next move?"
She shook her head again.
"Then what?"
"Then nothing," Adelyn said simply.
Karl’s brows furrowed deeper. "Nothing? You’re not going to do anything?"
If she truly wanted to act, she could easily create opportunities for the two to meet.
In fact ...
It would help her.
So why—
Why did the thought sit so uncomfortably in her chest?
Instead of relief ...
It stirred something else.
A faint sense of guilt, maybe.
Guilt of finding ways to distance herself from him, when it was her who got close to him in the first place.
It made her hesitate.
So in the end—
She chose not to interfere.
She would let things unfold on their own.
After all—
If two people were meant to be together, they would eventually find their way to each other.
"Sister-in-law, you—"
"Stop whining," Adelyn cut him off. "Didn’t I tell you before? I trust your brother. He wouldn’t betray me."
She paused deliberately.
"And even if he did ..."
She left the sentence unfinished.
At that exact moment—
Dylan gave Jasper a slight nod.
"Arrange it."
Jasper smiled faintly. "I’ll inform them then."
Karl, hearing that, immediately turned toward Dylan.
"Big Brother, you agreed to the meeting?" he asked. "Isn’t your schedule always packed?"
Dylan didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, his gaze shifted—
And landed on Adelyn.
She noticed it instantly.
And for some reason ...
She felt guilty.
She hadn’t said anything directly.
She hadn’t instigated Karl.
But still—
The situation had somehow circled back to her.
And his gaze made her feel as though she had been caught doing something she shouldn’t have.
Unable to bear it, she subtly pressed her foot down hard on Karl’s.
A silent warning.
But Karl ignored it completely.
"Didn’t Jasper say he would handle everything regarding the investment?" Karl continued, staring at Dylan. "Then, why do you need to attend personally?? Is that really necessary?"
Jasper raised a brow, clearly unimpressed. "Since when did Big Brother need to explain his decisions to you?"
"You—" Karl almost snapped.
But forcing himself to calm down, he suddenly broke into a bright smile.
"I just mean," he said sweetly, "if Big Brother actually has free time, shouldn’t he spend it with sister-in-law instead? That would be far more meaningful. After all, spending time is key between couples. Sister-in-law must be wanting it. secretly."
Then, turning to Adelyn, he added innocently,
"Isn’t that right, sister-in-law?"
