Chapter 354: Chapter 235: No Talk, Just Strange Power to Muddle Their Minds
The Evil Witch moved slowly, like a hunter with the poise of a lady. She wouldn’t kill her prey easily. Instead, she would toy with them, draining their Physical Strength and letting them be consumed by Fear and despair. Only when they were completely exhausted would she cackle, raise her cleaver, and slit their throats.
The three children hid behind the sofa, trying to evade her, but the Witch suddenly leaped two meters high and dropped straight toward their position. They let out a scream and scrambled away.
The Witch turned to chase Yiwen, who was closest, giving Joey and Jenny a chance to catch their breath.
Jenny ran to the kitchen, while Joey went to the window and frantically pounded on the glass, yelling for help to Martin outside.
Martin rushed forward and forcefully pushed and pulled the front door, but it was no use. The door was as solid as if it had been sealed with concrete. He shouted loudly, praying that an adult would hear, but the area was sparsely populated. From the very beginning, he hadn’t seen a single person on the street.
He picked up a few stones from the ground and threw them forcefully at the window, but the glass was completely unscathed, without even a single scratch.
’This is a trap... It’s a trap set by the monster...’ Martin panicked, not knowing what to do. He could only slam himself against the door frantically and scream for help.
Jenny came out of the kitchen, a paring knife trembling in her hand. She analyzed as calmly as she could, "The door is sealed shut, and the windows won’t open. This is a trap set specifically by the monster. But... but..."
"But this Witch, and the baby carriage and Music Box upstairs, they’re all from horror movies we’ve seen. This might be a... a mental illusion."
"An illusion?" Joey looked back at her.
"That’s right. It’s probably the monster’s Ability. It can make us see the things we Fear. I had Nightmares for several nights after watching that movie, about that baby carriage that brings bad luck..." Jenny said.
"I’m also scared of that medieval witch... But if it is an Illusion, how do we break the Illusion and escape?" Just as Joey finished speaking, Yiwen came running back, screaming, with the medieval witch behind him. They didn’t have time to think and huddled together, running for their lives.
Fortunately, the villa was large enough, and the rooms on the first floor were interconnected, giving them space to run and maneuver.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP...
Suddenly, a dull thumping sound came from the stairs, as if something was hopping down.
As they ran past the stairs, Joey looked up and saw a jiangshi—a zombie with a deathly pale face, dressed in ancient Eastern clothing. It was hopping down from the second floor one step at a time, its arms held out straight. It was already halfway down the stairs, with only half to go before reaching the first floor.
The jiangshi had a yellow talisman stuck to its face. Its hair was a mess, its fingernails were as sharp as claws, and its ancient clothes were extremely tattered, stained with blackened blood, and gave off a foul stench.
"It’s a jiangshi..." Joey shouted. "It’s a monster from an Eastern horror movie I saw!"
"Watch out ahead!" Jenny shouted a warning.
Joey snapped back to his senses and saw that a baby carriage had appeared out of nowhere in front of them, blocking the path. He couldn’t stop in time and crashed into it with a BANG. The carriage was covered in blood, and now Joey was also covered in the scarlet, sticky liquid. He fell to the floor, stunned, his mind blank.
The baby carriage fell to the ground, and a shriveled, dead infant was thrown from it. The dead infant suddenly opened its mouth and let out a bloodcurdling wail.
The baby’s shrill cry echoed through the villa like an alarm clock. In the Darkness, pairs of eyes slowly opened.
The living room TV suddenly turned on. Jenny and Yiwen looked and saw a grim, old well appear on the screen. A female ghost in a white dress with disheveled hair climbed out of it. After crawling away from the well with strange, spider-like movements, it bizarrely started to climb out of the television, half of its body emerging into the room.
A noise came from the kitchen. The two of them turned to look and saw a rotting corpse walk out. It was covered in pustules and swarmed by flies. A large hole was torn open in its shoulder and chest, the rotten flesh being devoured by countless writhing maggots. With every step it took, a large number of mucus-covered maggots would fall to the floor.
The crisp sound of typing echoed from nearby. An old-fashioned typewriter had inexplicably appeared on the living room coffee table. The keys pressed down on their own, as if an invisible person were sitting on the sofa, typing furiously. The text it produced was the same sentence repeated over and over: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
"Hello, Danny."
A childish voice called out. Jenny and Yiwen, who were at the peak of their terror, snapped their heads around and saw a pair of twin girls in blue dresses standing at the end of the hallway. They were holding hands, their faces eerily calm.
"Come play with us," the twin girls invited them. "Come play with us, forever... and ever..."
In the blink of an eye, the three of them were surrounded by all sorts of Demon Fiends and monsters from horror movies.
Jenny swallowed hard and tightened her grip on the paring knife, whispering tremblingly to herself, "This isn’t real, this isn’t real..."
"What do we do..." Yiwen cried out, his voice choked with sobs.
Joey stared blankly at the bloodstains on his hands. Adrenaline pumped furiously through him. After his Fear reached its peak, a fire ignited within him. It was... extreme Anger!
His expression became terrifying, like an out-of-control young beast. He suddenly clenched his fists and climbed up from the floor, the Fear inside him overwhelmed by the Anger it had sparked.
