Chapter 2487: Chapter 2487
The formation masters were busily setting up arrays on the satellite island. Meanwhile, martial cultivators who had volunteered for the battle gathered in a camp, preparing for the upcoming fight.
Ye Liuyun used his Thousand Illusions technique to disguise himself as a member of the Black Killers, slipping inside with a stolen identity token as he waited for the alien invaders to arrive.
Among the gathered warriors, many were still speculating about when Ye Liuyun would show up.
"Word is he already clashed with the aliens in deep space using his Eagle Fleet! Took out over ten thousand of their Swift Swallows!"
"What’s this Eagle Fleet? Who won?" someone unfamiliar with the Eagle-class warships asked.
"They say those Eagle ships are way more powerful than the Swift Swallows!"
"Ten thousand Swift Swallows is a big number, but how many aliens did that actually kill?"
"Rumor has it that battle wiped out over eight hundred thousand aliens. The military’s the one spreading the news—it’s gotta be true! And get this—Ye Liuyun only used five thousand Eagles in that fight."
"He’s got that many warships? Then why hasn’t he arrived yet? Why not sell some to us?"
"Who knows? Maybe he’s planning to catch the aliens off guard!"
Opinions flew back and forth. Some well-informed martial cultivators had surprisingly accurate intel.
*So the Sacred Dynasty’s been keeping tabs on my last battle with the alien fleet. Good thing I didn’t deploy all my Eagles.* Ye Liuyun mused silently.
Right now, all the warriors could talk about was when Ye Liuyun would arrive—everyone wanted a glimpse of those legendary Eagles.
According to the latest reports, the aliens were still about a month away from reaching the island. With arrays covering every inch of the place, the martial cultivators weren’t allowed to wander freely.
So, between training sessions, they passed the time by gathering to chat. Patrols of soldiers kept watch over the camp, ensuring no fights broke out.
After some more days had passed, Ye Liuyun once again sensed the emergence of several powerful auras and surmised that the elite forces of the Sacred Dynasty had also arrived.
Outside Satellite Island, warships and Swift Falcons were deployed in full force, ready to intercept the alien invaders. The various armies stationed on the island began taking their positions in orderly formations, and the atmosphere grew increasingly tense.
Within Ye Liuyun’s camp, a countdown commenced in the final days, with updates on when the aliens would arrive. When the time came, the warriors were permitted to observe the battle from the void of space, though they were strictly warned not to approach too closely.
Not content to wait, Ye Liuyun left camp a day early, cloaked in his invisibility mantle, and positioned himself in the void to seize an opportunity to infiltrate one of the colossal alien warships.
He had heard from Xiao Mu’an that the Sacred Dynasty planned to launch a preemptive strike against the aliens before they reached Satellite Island. If the aliens retaliated, they would likely open their ship’s hatches and deploy their own vessels—creating the perfect chance for him to slip inside.
However, to his disappointment, the three massive alien warships remained interconnected, their defensive shields activated the entire time. They showed no intention of engaging in battle, completely ignoring the Swift Falcons’ attacks from the Sacred Dynasty.
Undeterred by the assault, the alien fleet descended directly toward Satellite Island. Seeing this, the Sacred Dynasty recalled their Swift Falcons to regroup for defense.
The three alien warships made their way toward the site of their former base. The defensive formations painstakingly laid out by the human array masters proved as flimsy as paper against the sheer mass of the alien vessels, collapsing instantly upon impact.
From a distance, Ye Liuyun observed their movements with his golden pupils. To his surprise, after landing, the aliens showed no signs of aggression. Instead, they appeared completely at ease, settling in as if they had all the time in the world.
Meanwhile, the warriors of the Sacred Dynasty grew increasingly anxious, sending Swift Falcons to harass the aliens intermittently—yet the invaders remained utterly unfazed.
"These invaders are far too relaxed on someone else’s territory," Ye Liuyun mused. "If their warships were destroyed right now, wouldn’t that finally rattle them?"
Ye Liuyun’s blood boiled at the sight of these alien invaders, itching to launch a surprise attack.
He immediately consulted the Metal Devourer, "There are three massive warships down there. Can you control the direction of your metal absorption and take them down one by one?"
The beast nodded eagerly, signaling it was up to the task.
"Good," Ye Liuyun said. After finalizing the plan, he released the creature, instructing it to start with the first warship.
The colossal Metal Devourer descended from the sky like a falling meteor, crashing directly onto the first vessel. Despite the protective energy shield, the deafening impact drew the attention of both sides.
The aliens were stunned by the sudden appearance of such a monstrous beast.
Meanwhile, on the Sacred Dynasty’s side, Supreme Commander Liu Kui, who had heard of Ye Liuyun’s exploits, swiftly mobilized their own warships and Swiftwings, preparing to launch a long-range assault the moment the enemy fleet was compromised.
True to its agreement, the Metal Devourer perched atop the first warship and began absorbing its metal, deliberately ignoring the other two.
The three alien warships unleashed a barrage of attacks, but the beast remained motionless, eyes closed as if in deep slumber. The energy shield could deflect weapons fire, but it was powerless against the creature’s insatiable hunger for metal.
Before the aliens could comprehend why the beast wasn’t retaliating, those aboard the first ship noticed something amiss. Fine, sand-like particles began raining down from the ceiling and walls.
At first, they suspected an infiltration, but soon realized the truth—the very metal of the ship’s interior was disintegrating into dust.
Panic spread like wildfire as soldiers discovered their armor and weapons undergoing the same transformation. Even the Swiftwings and smaller vessels stored within the massive warship weren’t spared.
Over a million aliens descended into chaos, clueless about the Metal Devourer’s nature. Mistaking it for a mere savage beast like a lion, they had no inkling of its unique abilities.
Suddenly, the warship’s protective shield flickered and died. The energy transmission systems—also metal—had failed, cutting off power to the vessel.
With much of its structural integrity already compromised, the warship groaned under the Metal Devourer’s immense weight, its frame buckling as collapse became imminent.
The alien commander frantically ordered his soldiers to open the hatch, desperate to evacuate both personnel and equipment. But at this point, only the men could escape—the warship and its Swiftwing aircraft were already beyond salvage, their systems failing as they watched helplessly while the vessels crumbled into dust.
Then came a thunderous crash. The ship’s roof could no longer bear the weight of the Gold-Devouring Beast, collapsing inward as the monstrous creature plunged straight into the heart of the vessel. In an instant, the entire warship began disintegrating, its structure turning to sand that swirled wildly in the wind.
Panic erupted among the alien soldiers as they scattered in all directions. Their armor vanished, their weapons dissolved into nothing.
Some drew spare blades, lunging at the beast in a futile attack—only for their weapons to turn to sand mid-swing. Others sprinted toward the remaining two warships, while a few fled blindly, triggering the hidden traps of the ancient formation array. Chaos reigned.
Having devoured every last scrap of metal from the first warship, the Gold-Devouring Beast now turned its ravenous gaze toward the other two.
