Chapter 2399: Chapter 2399 Ambush In The Dense Forest
Ye Liuyun was just about to demonstrate his strength and was ready to make a move.
Serena stepped forward and blocked Ye Liuyun, facing Arctis as she said, "Who I team up with is my own business. He’s my teammate now. If you want to fight, you’ll have to get through me first!"
"Okay, fine!" Arctis spat out the words through gritted teeth. "Don’t say I didn’t warn you!"
"Don’t worry. I’ve already regretted it once, I won’t keep making the same mistake!" Serena said bluntly.
"What she said was clear. She regretted choosing Arctis before."
After Serena finished speaking and she turned to Madshark, "Do you want to team up with me, Madshark? You should trust my judgement. I won’t misjudge a person!"
Mad Shark looked an Ye Liuyun and nodded, "All right, I’ll trust you in this one more time!"
Serena then turned to her two former teammates. They exchanged a glance and nodded in unison. “We’re in!”
“All right, our team’s complete!” Serena announced, then led the five of them forward to register with the two training instructors waiting nearby.
After that, the rest of the participants continued forming their groups. One by one, the teams were finalized. In the end, just as expected, Arctis was the one left out. His face darkened with fury and he stormed off without a word.
Over here, Serena was also helping everyone get to know each other. The other two team members were named Enigma, who specialized in stealth and reconnaissance, and Yi Dao, who was mainly responsible for taking out the target in the first round. Serena typically handled the second-round kill.
When carrying out an assassination mission, the first ambush was often the easiest to succeed. If the first attempt failed, the target was usually on high alert during the second attempt, making the follow-up assassination much more difficult.
Ye Liuyun’s assigned task was to cover Serena’s retreat and hold off the martial practitioners chasing after her. Madshark was responsible for bringing up the rear.
Their roles would sometimes switch depending on the situation, with the priority always being to complete the assassination mission and retreat safely.
Soon, after all the teams had been assigned and they entered a designated area.
Serena and the others were quite familiar with the area and immediately knew where they were upon entering. Ye Liuyun, however, had to use his Divine Sense and Golden Phantom Eyes to scan the surroundings and get a sense of the environment.
They were surrounded by dense forest. In places like this, even the leaves could interfere with Divine Sense detection for most people.
So as soon as the others entered, they began moving quickly, heading straight for the center of the forest. Because this kind of dense forest was usually the best place to be surrounded and eliminated.
"We should hurry and get out of here. How about heading to that cluster of buildings on the west side?" Serena suggested.
However, Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes were much more effective at seeing through trees than through walls.
Especially now that his strength had grown, the penetrating power of his Golden Phantom Eyes had become even stronger. At this point, his vision could even pierce through the entire forest.
"There’s a team lying in ambush inside one of the buildings near the forest on the west side. On the east and south sides, there’s a team sneaking in from each direction. We can take them out right here.
How do they know we’re here? Why are they all targeting this spot?"
Ye Liuyun didn’t know the rules, so he was quite puzzled by the actions of the other teams.
Serena, Madshark, Enigma, and Yi Dao all looked at Ye Liuyun in surprise.
"What’s wrong?" Ye Liuyun asked in puzzle.
"How do you know two teams have entered?" Serena asked Ye Liuyun.
To make them believe him, Ye Liuyun had no choice but to remove the disguise over his eyes, revealing his golden pupils.
"I saw it with my own eyes!" He explained.
"So that’s how you recognized me at a glance!" Serena suddenly understood. But right after, her face turned bright red.
Since Ye Liuyun could see her face, then her body...
Fortunately, everyone had their faces covered with black cloth, so no one saw her expression.
The others didn’t pay attention to that detail either and instead excitedly began explaining things to Ye Liuyun.
Madshark explained to Ye Liuyun, "It’s not that they know we’re here, but rather they think you’re weaker and want to eliminate us first. This forest is the easiest place to hide and launch an attack."
But Ye Liuyun said, "Then let’s turn the tables this time and ambush them right here. I can see their positions!"
"What do you say?" Madshark turned to Serena and asked.
Since it was Serena who organized the team, she was naturally the leader.
Serena composed herself and agreed to the plan. The group began to split up and take action.
Enigma went to gather some branches and leaves for camouflage, preparing to hide up in the trees.
Madshark and Yi Dao started digging pits, planning to catch the other two teams off guard. Hiding underground was usually the hardest to detect.
Serena went straight into hiding in a patch of tall grass, using a special invisibility technique known as the Invisible Skill.
Ye Liuyun immediately consulted Liu Jing and set up several traps around the group following his guidance.
"You know how to set traps too?" Madshark said in surprise, looking at Ye Liuyun with newfound respect.
Because during assassination missions, they would sometimes encounter traps. With Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes and his knowledge, he could help them clear many of these obstacles.
"Just the basics!" Ye Liuyun said modestly.
Once Ye Liuyun had almost finished setting everything up, one of the teams was already approaching.
"They’re almost here. Everyone, hide well and leave it to me for now. If they don’t enter the ambush zone, don’t make a move!"
After giving instructions to the others, Ye Liuyun hid behind a large tree. He didn’t use the Xenocide-hidden Skill, but simply concealed himself there. This made him an easy target for a strong expert’s Divine Sense to detect him.
He had deliberately volunteered to act as bait, drawing the assassins’ attention to create a perfect kill opportunity for Serena and the others.
He wasn’t just waiting idly. He took out his Tundra Bow and locked onto the assassin approaching first using his Golden Phantom Eyes. Then he fired two arrows in different directions.
The assassin he had targeted was merely a scout sent ahead by the team.
So he moved very cautiously, stopping frequently and observing his surroundings.
As soon as Ye Liuyun released his arrows, the assassin sensed the energy fluctuations and immediately detected danger.
But his Divine Sense detected two energy trails rapidly moving in opposite directions.
"Who are these person? They’re so fast!"
Just as he was wondering if he had been surrounded, the overwhelming pressure from the two arrows made him instinctively turn and flee.
Due to the trees blocking his view, he couldn’t see what it was. He only knew he was being attacked from two sides.
Only when he started running did he see that they were two arrows.
But by the time he saw them, the two speeding arrows were already right in front of him.
He immediately swung his longsword to block the two arrows. However, one arrow shot upward and the other to the left, evading his sword.
"What kind of arrows are these? They’re not flying in a straight line." Athought flashed through his mind.
“Bang! Thud!”
Two consecutive sounds rang out. Both arrows hit their mark. The first arrow was stopped by his protective armor, but the second pierced right through him.
