Ye Liuyun and Songstress exchanged a wry smile at the sight before them.
"The greater the danger, the bigger the reward!" Ye Liuyun reasoned, his eyes gleaming with determination. "If the treasures here weren’t more valuable than the tournament prizes, Wan Weihou wouldn’t have let us in!"
Songstress merely sighed as she glanced down at her delicate garments. "What a shame these clothes probably won’t survive this ordeal," she murmured. "Let’s hope you’re right about it being worth the risk."
No sooner had she spoken than a thunderous roar echoed through the caverns, growing louder by the second. The ground trembled beneath their feet as the beast’s roar closed in on them.
"The Beast King is awakened. We’ll fight our way through swiftly!""
Ye Liuyun warned as his hand drew the Demon Slayer from its sheath.
Likewise, Songstress unsheathed her dagger in one fluid motion, falling into step beside him as they charged forward.
Their strategy was simple. To strike hard and fast, as they moved ahead. Eliminating the feral beast, and charged forward.
Ye Liuyun summoned the feral beasts he’d previously subdued to aid them. But the tide of wild feral beasts kept coming, drawn to them in schools.
As more and more creatures loomed in their way, their advance slowed down.
Soon, their allied beasts fell to the relentless onslaught.
Changing tactics, Ye Liuyun sheathed his blade and nocked an arrow to his Tundra Bow.
Though the beasts’ hides were tough, they lacked proper armour. Making them perfect targets for his precise shots. One by one, his arrows found their marks, clearing a path through the monstrous horde.
Whenever a feral beast charged toward Ye Liuyun, the Songstress would swiftly swing her dagger like silver lightning to guard their flanks. Regaining their footing, they surged forward once more, tearing through the mayhem with a renewed speed.
"Roar!"
Another earth-shaking roar from the Beast King erupted in the air. Urging the feral beasts to intensify their assault.
Ye Liuyun’s Tundra Bow gradually lost its effectiveness against the relentless onslaught.
He had no choice but to call upon the Vermilion Bird, Megalithic Ape, Ice Blue, and a pack of white tigers.
"Roar!" The White Tigers let out a deafening roar, momentarily stunning the charging beasts with their sheer ferocity.
Without hesitation, Ye Liuyun and Songstress each mounted a White Tiger, rallying their beasts to charge straight toward the Beast King’s position.
The Megalithic Ape and Ice Blue guarded the rear, while the Vermilion Bird soared above, spitting fireballs to aid the White Tigers’ advance.
Ye Liuyun continued to wield his Tundra Bow to clear off the beasts on the flanks with deadly precision.
Ye Liuyun’s Spatial Realm has kept these White Tigers confined for far too long, training them with little opportunity for true battle.
They finally could unleash their full killing fury.
"Roar!"
The pack roared in unison as they surged forward.
The feral beasts surrounding them trembled in terror. Weaker ones collapsed under the overwhelming pressure that came from the White Tigers, too frightened to resist.
Others tucked their tails between their legs and fled outright. Under the White Tigers’ vicious aura, even the most courageous were weakened in battle and ripped to shreds by the continuous onslaught.
Meanwhile, the feral beasts in the air were completely quelled by the Vermilion Bird.
With its scorching flames and Divine soul attacks, not a single winged predator dared to draw near.
The Beast King within the secret realm wasn’t about to go down without a fight. Leading a horde of feral beasts, it charged straight toward the white tiger pack.
With deafening roars that shook the earth, the two monstrous forces collided head-on.
Out of nowhere, all of the white tigers widened their jaws at the same time, unleashing a barrage of golden rays. In a second, the brilliant light impaled rows of charging feral beasts in an instant.
In an instant, several of the feral beasts turned to their tails and fled, only to be trampled by their incoming stampeding kin.
"Roar!"
The Beast King finally revealed itself. It was a massive, pitch-black Brute Bull.
Its hulking frame was much larger than the white tigers.
Yet the white tiger showed no fear, lunging forward to meet the challenge head-on.
The tiger pack ripped through their enemies as the two forces slammed into one another in a torrent of violence. The battle power of the opposing beasts collapsed as a result of the white tigers’ relentless pursuit.
The surrounding feral beasts cowered in terror, too frightened to approach as the Beast King’s forces dwindled rapidly.
The white tiger dodged the bull’s attacks with agile movements. Not long later, deep gashes quickly covered the beast’s iron-hard hide.
Golden spears of light pierced through the Brute Bull’s torso, leaving gaping wounds that dripped blood onto the scorched earth.
Enraged, the brute bull stomped its hoof violently, sending jagged spikes of earth shooting upward in an attempt to skewer the tiger. However, the White tiger was quick on its feet and leapt onto the back of the bull, sank its fangs into the beast’s spine and clung on obstinately.
To shake off its attacker, the bull thrashed erratically. Many attempts later, the bull managed to toss the tiger aside. The white tiger’s jaws remained clenched while it was tossed off. Naturally, it tore off a large section of the bull’s flesh.
The bull let out a bellow in agony as it collapsed, unable to rise again. But the tiger wasted no time, pouncing back onto its prey in an instant. With its fangs locked onto the bull’s nape and half its body pinning the beast down, the white tiger pressed it mercilessly into the mud.
The Brute Bull struggled to rise, its hind leg strained as it made several desperate attempts to shake off the White Tiger’s dominance.
"Whimper... whimper..."
Finally, the bull was out of its wits and whimpered helplessly.
However, the White Tiger only loosened its grip for a brief instant before delivering the last fatal blow by driving its fangs deep into its throat.
A dozen white tigers proclaimed triumph with a resounding chorus of roars.
At that moment, the crimson-muzzled White Tiger finally stood tall, roaring its declaration of dominion with an ear-piercing roar.
"Roar!"
With another roar, the beast cocked its head back and surveyed the other feral beasts in the area.
The stray beasts immediately bowed their heads and let out weak, shaky whines of surrender.
"The majestic king of beasts!" Ye Liuyun couldn’t help but murmur in admiration.
With regal pride, the White Tiger paced a slow circle before the cowering creatures, only dismissing them with an authoritative flick of its tail.
After that, it took on a human form and went up to Ye Liuyun to report its findings. "Right up ahead is a huge lake that crawling with water snakes. The caves along the cliffs are infested with undead monstrosities that would attack anyone scaling the rockface."
"Undead monstrosities?"
Ye Liuyun arched an eyebrow, intrigued. The local feral beasts had only glimpsed them from a distance, too wary to venture near those cliffs. Their descriptions remained vague at best.
"Let’s go take a look for ourselves."
Ye Liuyun recalled all the Devil beasts into his Spatial realm. As for the few dead or injured White Tigers, he handed them over to the White Tiger leader to deal with.
"These savage beasts fought with unmatched ferocity!"
Songstress couldn’t help but remark as she surveyed the countless corpses of feral beasts strewn along their path.
Ye Liuyun, meanwhile, walked back to collect the slain beasts into his Spatial world as a reward for the Beast who took part in the battle.
Not long later, Ye Liuyun and Songstress came upon a vast lake blocking their way. Peering into the depths with his Golden Phantom Eyes, a shiver ran down his spine.
The lakebed was teeming with layers upon layers of water snakes in overwhelming numbers.
Crossing the lake would definitely provoke an attack from them.
"Let Dragon Lady handle them!"
Songstress suggested after learning about the situation.
Nodding, Ye Liuyun summoned the Dragon Lady.
She stirred the waters with her Sea King Trident, deliberately provoking the serpent king.
An enormous water serpent, measuring several yards in length, hissed wildly before it sprang out of the lake.
The Dragon Lady swiftly ascended into the sky, revealing her formidable true form with a resounding roar that dumbstruck the serpent.
A hundred-yard-long black-scaled dragon now loomed in the sky, its menacing gaze locked on the trembling water snake below.
