Chapter 220: Chapter 2: Magical Beast Meat
"My lord, it’s right here."
Ais led the way, with Robson and Valentino following him to a tent in the northeastern corner of the military camp.
The tent was already under heavy guard by several soldiers. The armor they wore bore the crest of the Odogin Family. These were Robson’s personal guards, brought from his homeland—an absolutely reliable group.
Ais truly had a gift. Although what he had done wasn’t much, one couldn’t forget that before becoming Robson’s adjutant, he was merely a peasant.
It wasn’t that Robson looked down on peasants, but some things you either knew or you didn’t. The ability to learn—to see something once, grasp the concept, and then apply it in practice—was one such thing.
Ais grew nervous under the noble lord’s gaze.
To be honest, although he had been Robson’s adjutant for a long time, he had always been tasked with miscellaneous chores. Even a simple job like relaying orders was usually handled by the Knight Lord named Bo Yang.
If it weren’t for this sudden incident, and Ais’s feeling that something wasn’t right and shouldn’t be spread, he would never have acted this way.
This was the first time he had done something of substance in his capacity as Robson’s adjutant.
"My lord, these soldiers this morning..." Ais began, looking as if he wanted to explain himself.
"Well done." Robson clapped him on the shoulder in praise.
"As an adjutant, you need to learn to take the initiative. You must think and make decisions proactively," Robson affirmed.
Ais’s competence showed Robson a new possibility: promoting talented individuals from among the peasants.
It was just one possibility, but if Robson could find many more people like Ais, his rule over his domain would become exceptionally stable.
The main issue was that Robson’s power had grown so rapidly and unrefinedly, catapulting him into the rank of Viscount. In the future, aside from land, he would be short on everything else.
If he could promote talent from among the common folk, the development speed of his territory would increase by an order of magnitude.
"It’s my duty, my lord," Ais replied nervously.
"Alright, let’s go inside." Robson nodded, not wanting to put any more pressure on Ais.
’Ais is just the breakthrough. Once word of his actions spreads, I’ll slowly begin to screen for more candidates.’
...
Stepping into the tent, just as Ais had reported, a silvery-white mist permeated the air. Robson’s first thought was of his own battle aura.
As he thought this, he extended his hand. The mist, like children returning home, flowed into his palm.
"What is this?" Valentino asked curiously, looking at Robson as she witnessed the strange scene.
Robson shook his head. He wasn’t trying to hide anything; he genuinely didn’t know what this substance was.
Robson walked over to the beds where two soldiers lay. A silvery-white mist roiled beneath their skin, and their bulging veins had turned the same silver color.
"Is this their initial battle aura energy running rampant?" Valentino asked in astonishment.
’Their initial battle aura energy is running rampant... But where did it even come from?’
That was the question Valentino was most curious about.
Looking at Robson, Valentino suddenly realized that the man beside her seemed to be keeping some kind of secret.
Of course, Valentino had no intention of asking. What rapidly rising family didn’t have a few little secrets? Their relationship was still in the pre-engagement stage. Some things could only be shared when they were truly bound together.
Take the Fengman Clan, for example. The reason they were afflicted with a curse that limited them to a single heir per generation wasn’t as simple as the public story suggested.
This world wasn’t as simple as it appeared on the surface—and even on the surface, it was hardly ordinary.
’For now, all I know is that this situation isn’t a bad thing. As for the rest, I can slowly uncover the truth after we’re together in the future.’
"These soldiers don’t have a Cultivation Technique. They don’t know how to guide their battle aura to their abdomens to stimulate the Life Seed," Valentino analyzed.
Robson held his chin, pondering a solution.
"These soldiers ate a large amount of Magical Beast Meat yesterday. When they woke up this morning, they were like this," Ais explained from the side.
’Magical Beast Meat?’
"What kind of Magical Beast Meat? Did anyone else eat it?" Robson asked, looking at Ais.
"It was just some ordinary Magical Beast Meat. Many of us felt a bit unwell after just a bite or two, but those men were able to keep eating it," Ais replied.
"Keep eating it?"
This news surprised Robson.
One had to understand that Magical Beast Meat was rich in energy elements, which were initially just chaotic natural forces.
But after being absorbed and converted by the human body, this energy transformed into usable Extraordinary power. No matter the Extraordinary profession, this was the root of all cultivation.
For the two most fundamental professions, those who cultivated their sea of consciousness used Magic, and those who cultivated their Life Seed used battle aura. The sea of consciousness and the Life Seed were, in effect, a creature’s Energy Converters.
Possessing one of these Energy Converters was a symbol of a creature’s Extraordinary talent, but the probability increased significantly if both parents possessed one.
Of course, even if you didn’t have one, you could still cultivate to the Silver tier through physical means if you had enough money, just like Louis III and Prince Noah. However, the price one had to pay was far from ordinary.
What surprised Robson was that, generally speaking, consuming a small amount of chaotic energy could indeed strengthen an ordinary person’s body. But this stuff was like a tonic—eat too much, and it could kill you.
Forget about mortal bodies; even some Extraordinary individuals wouldn’t dare to eat it continuously.
"Perhaps you can use your battle aura to guide the energy for them. Do you know how?" Valentino asked, looking at Robson.
Robson nodded. He had also read about this in the books Prince Noah had given him. In an Extraordinary family, when a junior member encountered difficulties in their process of becoming Extraordinary, an elder would use their own battle aura to guide them.
"I only know of the concept; I don’t know how to do it," Valentino said, shaking her head at Robson’s expectant gaze.
Her answer was somewhat disappointing.
"However, I do have a few of my family’s guidance technique books with me." As she spoke, Valentino retrieved three books from her Space Ring.
"Is it alright for you to give these to me now?" Robson asked curiously.
He hadn’t asked Valentino for a Golden Tier Cultivation Technique before precisely because he felt such things would be considered a core secret.
After all, a family’s legacy was its most precious possession.
"Every family has a few of these. They’re not valuable," Valentino said, shaking her head.
"You don’t have to be so cautious. In fact, given our current relationship, as long as it doesn’t involve the core secrets of the Fengman Clan, many things can be shared openly," Valentino said with a smile.
’Is that so?’ Robson wondered just how much "many things" included.
Taking the guidance books from Valentino’s hands, Robson began studying them right where he stood.
"You... you’re planning to learn the guidance technique right here and now? It’s not that I doubt your ability to learn, but..." Valentino was stunned.
"It’s no problem. Trust me."
After saying that, Robson didn’t speak again, his mind completely focused on the guidance techniques in his hands.
’I have the double boost of a Mount & Blade-style panel and being a fifth-tier Magic Master. It only took me a day to learn that last Cultivation Technique. I refuse to believe this will be any harder.’
