Chapter 209: Chapter 175: Bloody Battle of Thermopylae 8
At this moment, the uniqueness of Robson’s aura, combined with his mastery of the Eight Knightly Techniques, began to unleash an incredible might. Beastman Warriors charged him again and again, but Robson simply gripped his greatsword with both hands and carved through them as if they were nothing.
’He’s that strong?’
In reality, Robson was a classic case of someone relying on a single, unbeatable advantage. He was simply bullying these Silver Warriors, who couldn’t break through the flawless defense of his Golden Tier power. If a Golden Tier Beastman with a few tricks up his sleeve were here, Wood wouldn’t be on the back foot like this.
"Form ranks! For our Lord!"
"Form the Shield Array! Prepare to attack!"
Witnessing Robson charge down, carving through the enemy as if no one could stop him, sent a euphoric rush through the human soldiers. Their blood boiled with excitement, and they actually began to organize a counterattack!
Just moments ago, they had been completely suppressed. That was because the Beastmen’s Silver Tier Extraordinaries were simply too difficult to resist.
But now, Robson had single-handedly drawn the attention of all those powerhouses. As for the remaining Bronze-tier Extraordinary Beastmen, although they were still difficult to deal with, the human soldiers could at least hold their own for a while by relying on their temporary numerical advantage and coordinated tactics.
This was precisely the effect Robson wanted. For one, it would reduce casualties among his elites. For another, it would allow him to display his formidable might to the army.
"Charge him! Wear him down!"
As Wood saw Robson charging toward him, he quickly fell back several steps. This wasn’t because he was a coward who feared death.
If he died, the Beastman Extraordinary Infantry Corps would truly be left without a leader.
"Sir! I am here to aid you!"
Just as Wood was dodging back and forth, a roar suddenly erupted from the rear. It was none other than Viscount Leo and Knight Commander Elon.
The two had finally rallied their troops and were now arriving, albeit late.
Seeing this, Wood knew the tide had turned against him. He glanced around and began to think about how to retreat.
....
From his vantage point in the distance, General Griff witnessed all of this and couldn’t help but feel his anger rise. Taking this mighty fortress in one go... it seemed that was no longer possible.
General Griff simply couldn’t understand it. How had the main force of his Extraordinary Infantry Corps gotten bogged down?
If they had gotten stuck at just one section of the wall, that would be one thing. But the crucial point was that they hadn’t managed to break through anywhere. They were locked in a stalemate across the entire front!
’But I didn’t see any battle auras! How did they manage it?’
Griff found it incomprehensible.
In truth, if he had been willing to commit more forces, he only needed to open a single breach before the human Extraordinary Corps arrived. Once the humans’ terrain advantage was gone, the Beastman Extraordinary Infantry could have swarmed in.
After all, no matter how elite the human Infantry were, they were still mere mortals.
Of course, this was also what confused Griff the most. Even if the humans had the terrain advantage, the charge of the Extraordinary Beastmen should have been an unstoppable tide. Why were they being held back?
An ill premonition began to surface in Griff’s mind.
"General, what do we do now?"
Hearing his adjutant’s question, Griff could feel the man’s anxiety. He forced himself to calm down.
"What is there to panic about? You’ve followed me for so long, yet you’re still like this? Sovin, you embarrass me," General Griff admonished.
"Ah? I’m sorry, General, I was just..." the adjutant named Sovin stammered.
"Listen to me, son. This is nothing more than a minor setback!" General Griff said with conviction.
It had to be said, General Griff was a master of putting on an act. Though he was completely baffled himself, he could still project an air of having everything under control.
But there was no other choice. As commander of the Third Army, General Griff knew full well that anyone could panic, but not him.
"What are you staring at? Are you going to halt the attack after one failure? Did I not give an order earlier??
If the first wave can’t do it, then send in the second!" General Griff glared at Adjutant Sovin.
"Yes, Sir!"
Hearing General Griff’s command, Sovin instantly found his resolve.
General Griff nodded. ’Soldiers are all the same,’ he thought. ’When a battle turns dangerous, they become idle if no one gives them orders. When people are idle, their minds start to wander, and they begin to feel that the situation is uncontrollable.’
Of course, General Griff himself was partly to blame. He had placed far too much importance on a victory for the Extraordinary Soldiers.
Before the Extraordinary Soldiers attacked, their success was paramount. But now that they had failed, it no longer mattered.
Now, General Griff had to change his tactics. He would use his vast numbers of Beastman Soldiers to wear the enemy down to nothing.
