Chapter 491: Chapter 128: Skinning and Skin Making (Part 2)

In short, the Ascenders walking the streets of Silver Moon City weren’t all players from the Otherworld.

A considerable portion of them were actually native beings from the various Lord Worlds, summoned to this Divine Domain by Ascender players who had already advanced to become Deities, under the title of Destiny Believers.

However, the Divine Domain had a rather treacherous rule.

Those native Divine Chosen Heroes, summoned to this world as Destiny Believers, were no longer bound by the "100% loyalty" rule of the Lord World.

As long as these Destiny Believers held enough power—especially after they obtained a Divine Format and became self-sufficient Deities who controlled their own territory—they could completely break free from their original master’s control, establish their own faction in the Divine Domain, and even turn on them.

’Is that so...’

’Good thing my Emperor’s Guard and Exclusive Mounts aren’t products of the "Lord System"...’

’They’re still absolutely loyal...’

’But for Mythical Level heroes like Yugudora, the Infinite Sword Saint, the Tree Guard, and Nesia, who aren’t restricted by the power of the Riding and Cutting system...’

’I can’t be so sure about them...’

At this thought, Qin Feng made a decision. For now, he would funnel all of his limited resources to the Emperor’s Guard and his Exclusive Mounts.

Only by first letting these core forces establish a foothold in the Divine Domain, gaining the ability to protect themselves and even expand, could he solidify his foundation.

As for top-tier combatants like Yugudora and the others, it was best to keep them on hold for now.

Once he had ample resources and the situation was clearer, he would summon all of them to this world. Only then could their power be used to its full potential.

’And the sub-professions.’

’Skinning looks like a real chore.’

’I won’t learn it for now.’

’I’ll have one of the Sielo Knights from the Emperor’s Guard learn it.’

’I’ll see how it goes.’

’If it works out well, I’ll assign a few more "skinners".’

’If not, I’ll just have them learn other sub-professions first.’

...

On the edge of the Black Flame Forest, a territory governed by Silver Moon City in the Divine Domain, a miasma flowed like ink between the withered trees, filtering the sunlight into a bleak, gray shadow.

A group from the Cyan Dragon Gang stood in a forest clearing, huddled around a colossal beast. In the dim light, the cold gleam of drawn blades and the oily, black sheen of the beast’s fur flickered against each other.

It was a massive black hound, its body comparable in size to an adult Mammoth. It stood a good twenty feet tall at the shoulder, with specks of crusted blood matted in its shaggy black fur. Its limbs, as thick as iron pillars, sank half a foot deep into the rotting leaves with every step, and the drool that dripped to the ground sizzled with tiny bubbles.

"Search carefully! Don’t miss a single trace!"

The voice of the Scar-faced Leader at the front trembled with both anger and a hidden worry.

The disappearance of five Cyan Dragon Gang members was no small matter, especially at a critical time when the gangs were fighting over the Divine Domain’s resources. Every subordinate was a crucial combatant.

For all he knew, this could be the spark that ignited a war between the gangs of Silver Moon City.

As he thought this, he glanced at the massive black hound beside him and swallowed hard.

This "Corpse-devouring Dog" was a Destiny Believer personally raised by the Cyan Dragon Gang’s leader. Not only was its strength Extraordinary, but it could also track a scent of blood for several miles and even speak human language, well-versed in the art of Reconnaissance. It was the gang’s most trusted tracking tool, specializing in finding "missing" and "dead" Cyan Dragon Gang members.

The Corpse-devouring Dog lowered its head, its wrinkled nostrils flaring ceaselessly. Its black pupils contracted into thin lines, locking onto the few patches of long-dried, blackened blood on the ground.

Its thick tail was held ramrod straight, and when it occasionally brushed against a nearby tree trunk, it was forceful enough to shake dead branches loose.

The surrounding Cyan Dragon Gang members held their breath, deliberately muffling even the soft clash of their weapons. Only the sound of the Corpse-devouring Dog’s heavy breathing echoed through the forest.

After a moment, the Corpse-devouring Dog abruptly raised its head. The slack corners of its mouth pulled back, revealing fangs as uneven as daggers, and a grave look flickered in the depths of its murky eyes.

When it spoke, its voice was like two massive rocks grinding together, carrying a dull, majestic weight that didn’t belong to a canine:

"Right here."

"This is where their trail ends."

The Scar-faced Leader hurried forward:

"Then where are the bodies?"

"Could an Abyssal Demon Wolf have dragged them away?"

The Corpse-devouring Dog slowly turned its head, its gaze sweeping over the surrounding trees and earth. Its breath puffed against the ground, stirring up a fine mist of dust.

"There’s no death energy seeping from underground. They weren’t dragged away."

It paused, then pressed a huge paw lightly beside a bloodstain, leaving a clear print.

"The enemy used a special method to completely destroy the bodies. Not even bone fragments are left."

"Perhaps, just like me..."

"...they ate the bodies whole."

These words made the faces of every Cyan Dragon Gang member present change. A chill ran down the Scar-faced Leader’s spine. To be able to deal with five people so cleanly in the Black Flame Forest and completely erase all traces of the bodies—this was by no means the work of an ordinary Ascender.

With this in mind, the Scar-faced Leader quickly pressed, a barely perceptible urgency in his voice:

"Can you follow the trail and track down those people?"

At his words, the Corpse-devouring Dog’s massive head nodded slowly, its dripping saliva forming a small puddle on the ground.

It spoke in a low, rumbling tone, its voice still as coarse as a grindstone:

"I can."

"Their scent and aura still linger in this forest. The miasma hasn’t completely dispersed it."

It paused again, its nostrils flaring a few more times as a flicker of confusion crossed its murky pupils.

"It’s just... there were three targets here in total. The auras of two of them lead all the way in the direction of Silver Moon City."

"But the scent of the third target cuts off abruptly mid-trail, as if it were forcibly snuffed out."

"I don’t know what special method they used to hide the scent."

A vicious glint flashed in the Scar-faced Leader’s eyes. He gritted his teeth and said in a low voice:

"Doesn’t matter."

"Take us to Silver Moon City first. Find the two who left a trail!"

He raised a hand and wiped at the scar on his face, his tone filled with unconcealed hostility:

"I don’t care if they were involved in the attack or not. Since they were at the scene, they’ll pay the price!"

"The Cyan Dragon Gang never takes a loss!"

As his voice fell, the Scar-faced Leader waved his hand. The gang members behind him roared their assent, and the group, led by the Corpse-devouring Dog, sped back toward Silver Moon City over the rotting forest leaves.

The black behemoth kept its head low, its wrinkled nostrils twitching constantly. Following the faint, lingering scent in the air, it wound its way through the city’s bustling streets and alleys, finally stopping before a shop with a wooden sign that read: "Professional Skinning."

The shop’s wooden door was ajar, and from within came the faint clatter of metal tools and the steady voice of a Sielo Knight.

Inside, however, Qin Feng wasn’t looking at the Sielo Knight, who was learning how to process Demon Wolf Hide from the shop owner.

He was simply leaning casually against the counter, his fingertips tapping idly on the wooden surface as he gazed calmly at the members of the Cyan Dragon Gang blocking the entrance.

Thanks to his highest-authority skill, "Observation," the identity information flickering above their heads was completely visible to him.

Therefore, from the moment they stepped onto this street, Qin Feng’s attention had been firmly locked on them.

Any other Ascender would have likely dismissed the group blocking the street as ordinary people, never realizing that they were baleful stars gunning straight for them.

’So soon?’

’Do they have some kind of tracking-type Divine Gift?’

Qin Feng’s eyebrow twitched as he mused to himself.

His gaze darkened as he swept it over the murderous figures at the door. His fingers tapped lightly on the countertop, each tap crisper than the last.

’It seems letting the Desert Giant Wolves devour the bodies isn’t enough to completely erase the traces of a murder.’

’Next time... I won’t need to waste time on such a useless effort.’
