"Not a word. Not a single fucking word." Rio said, pointing his sword at the god, who only looked at him with a mocking sneer.

"Why? Don’t tell me it’s actually happened to you before?" Aelthar said, his finger gently tapping on the sword. Causing cracks to appear on the metal which shattered the next second.

"...."

"So it did huh." Taking his silence as acquistal, the god only felt good.

"Tell me mortal. For someone who takes pride in the fact that the ones you love are your top priority, how does it feel to not be theirs?"

"Stop." Rio gnarled angrily. His eyes taking up the shade of red as anger flooded his veins.

"You said my kindness was wasted on my disciples, by that example, wouldn’t your love be a waste too?"

"You should’ve listened when I asked you to shut up." Rio said, swiping his hand and slashing another sword at the god’s neck.

Aelthar raised his arms to tap it’s edges once more, but the sword shone in a dark hue of aura enhancing it’s edges which collided directly with the god’s clear skin. Leaving a shallow white mark upon impact.

The god and Rio both watched this result and clicked their tongues in displeasure at the same time.

Aelthar cause he didn’t expect the weird traits of the mortal’s dark aura which swallowed his power, and Rio cause he didn’t expect his attack to not even break the god’s defenses.

"I’m a soul body, mortal. These physical weapons can’t hurt me." Aelthar said, breaking the silence and punching forward.

His movements leaving a flash of blur in the air. But Rio wasn’t to be left behind.

Sparks flew everywhere as the clash between the sword’s metal and Aelthar’s fists began.

In matter of seconds, dozens of sounds for collision rang out, creating a cahooney of chaos with the remnants of a soulful melody.

Finally the sword broke under the God’s constant onslaught, and Rio was forced back with a punch landing on his lungs. For a second he felt his heart jump up and get stuck in his throat, but clicking his tongue in displeasure, he shot back straight.

Then started a war of attrition and artifacts as Rio held a sword in each hand and faced off against the god.

Every time the metal broke, he’d back off and shift to a new one instantly, shocking the god at how smooth he was with this operation.

Though none of the weapons could hurt him, the constant slashes here and there soon started to annoy the god, who found it insulting that a mortal’s attacks could even mark his skin.

Soon enough the ground was filled with broken metals and every step back and forth caused a clinking sound to ring under their feet.

Aelthar had enough and he finally started using both his hands. He grabbed both swords and broke them easily, before raising his feet to kick the mortal away.

Rio’s body was sent flying, breaking a pillar and colliding against the walls of the temple before stopping. He coughed a little blood, and brought another sword in his hand before jumping straight at the god.

But in middle of his attack, the sword disappeared and a metal chain appeared in his hands.

A whip with sharp and danty red thorns on it’s edges, and as Rio shook it in a wide slash, it moved around like a snake, ready to strike a poisonous blow. The bluish blur left the air seething in a sizzling sound, as if the whip burned everything it came in contact with.

Aelthar raised his arms to block the attack, after seeing him pull another sword, only to be caught off guard when the striking whip wrapped around his arm.

A searing pain shot through his body, and the feeling of his soul being shredded swept his mind.

Taking this chance, Rio teleported right behind Aelthar, wrapping the whip around the god’s neck. Before pulling on it harder. Causing the God to struggle to breath and free himself from this ’trap’.

Dhummmmm

Aelthar landed on the hard floor with a heavy thud face first after the shoulder throw, the force breaking the floor from impact.

The soul striker, Rio’s usual go-to artifact when dealing with soul bodies showed it’s magic once more.

But unlike Francius, the ring grandpa for the protagonist, who was crying and screaming after every hit of this whip, the god was much tougher.

Aelthar only felt the ping of pain in his arms and then the burning sensation of hellfire wrapped around his throat confused him.

Though surprised that the mortal had some methods which could hurt his soul, this little pain wasn’t enough to defeat him.

The gourd on Aelthar’s waist shook upon instinct and fog started to swirl out of it. Putting off the hellfire which was now burning his soul.

"Crafty tricks you have. But these aren’t enough if you want to steal my legacy." Aelthar said, releasing a ball of fog from his hands which wrapped around Rio and pulled him upwards.

The temple’s top opened up and soon enough Rio was flying amongst the clouds, before the fog disappeared and let him fall freely from thousands of feet.

Not satisfied still, Aelthar appeared right over Rio’s falling figure and kicked his back, increasing the speed of his fall by several times.

But just before he could hit the ground, two wings of white appeared on Rio’s back, helping him glide and veer off the fall. Though not completely, as he still rolled through a few pillars and hit a few walls on his way down.

Aelthar floated above the temple, his spectral form wrapped in a veil of white mist. The god’s presence was overwhelming, pressing down like the weight of the heavens themselves.

Yet Rio stood below, grinning like a devil in the dark. Who just had the taste of his first sin.

"You should’ve left when I said so." Aelthar spoke, finally turning serious and not just taking this fight as a joke which a foolish mortal started in his denial over being rejected.

He could see in those dark eyes that no matter how he beat the kid, he wouldn’t leave as long as he lived. And so, any form of pity, kindness, or mercy the god may have had, was gone now. For now, he simply wanted to crush this mortal and look for his real successor.

"And you should’ve _" Rio wanted to mock the god back, but Aelthar didn’t even give him that time.

The god extended his palm, bringing forth a domain of fog which covered the whole temple.

Rio felt himself being drained and disoriented, his movements being slowed down like invisible chains tied to every part of his body and were dragging him down.

Rio looked up and saw the god teleport right in front of him, _ no, it’s not teleportation, he didn’t feel the space shutter, _ is this his speed.

Before Rio could finish his thought, a punch landed on his stomach. Knocking the air out of his lungs. But as if to not give the god any satisfaction, he still looked up with his bloody smile, and grinned like a maniac, "That all you got?"

But Aelthar didn’t reply to his mockery, he just raised his other arm and slapped Rio. His swing directly aimed at Rio’s skull.

Rio ducked at the final moment. Making the god’s palm to land on the pillar, obliterating it instantly. Causing divine energy infused rocks to fly everywhere.

Rio grunted in pain as the shockwave pushed him further, but he used this force to twist his body and punch the god back.

"That all you got?" Aelthar said mockingly, repeating his words back after he barely felt anything from that hit.

But instead of being angry or annoyed, Rio just smiled in response, and kicked his feet hard on the ground, running in the other direction.

"Yeah, that’s all I got." His words echoed from afar, and before the god could make sense of it. A talisman lit up on his clothes and instantly set his whole soul body on fire.

"You’re just a piece I haven’t cooked before, Aelthar. Welcome to my kitchen." Rio said, breathing heavily, taking in the smell of charred divine with ecstasy.
