Chapter 28 - Cared For

The conference room was filled with a tense air as Kazuma and Masako sat across from a group of potential investors. The meeting had been going well—mostly. The investors were impressed by the couple's track record, particularly the success of their recent projects like Beat Empire and the hype surrounding Spirit Walker. But things took a turn when one of the investors, an older man with a sharp suit and an even sharper tone, directed his attention toward Masako.

"Now, about these designs for Spirit Walker," he began, gesturing to the concept art displayed on the monitor. "They're... interesting. But don't you think they're a little unconventional? A bit too niche? If you toned them down, made them more mainstream, they'd probably appeal to a wider audience."

Masako's golden eyes narrowed slightly, though she kept her composure. She opened her mouth to respond, but before she could say a word, Kazuma spoke up, his light blue eyes flashing with determination.

"With all due respect," Kazuma said, his voice firm but calm, "those 'unconventional' designs are exactly what make our games stand out. Masako's art style is what gives our worlds their identity. It's unique, memorable, and it resonates with our audience."

The investor raised an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "But isn't the goal to appeal to as many people as possible? Surely you can see how simplifying the designs could bring in more players."

Kazuma shook his head, his tone unwavering. "Appealing to everyone doesn't mean sacrificing what makes our work special. Our players love the distinctiveness of our games because they're different. They connect with the creativity and care Masako puts into every design. Watering that down would strip away the soul of what we create."

Masako glanced at him, her golden eyes softening as she watched him defend her. She could see how much he believed in her work, and it made her heart swell with gratitude.

Another investor, a younger woman, leaned forward, intrigued by Kazuma's passion. "So you believe that staying true to your creative vision is more important than following market trends?" she asked.

"Absolutely," Kazuma said without hesitation. "We're not just making products to sell—we're creating experiences that leave an impact. And Masako's art is at the heart of those experiences. It's what makes our games unforgettable."

The room fell silent for a moment as the investors exchanged glances. Finally, the younger investor nodded, a small smile tugging at her lips. "I admire your conviction," she said. "It's clear you both have a deep passion for what you do. That kind of authenticity is rare, and it's probably why your games have been so successful."

The older investor sighed, his expression softening slightly. "Well, I suppose there's something to be said for sticking to your principles. Your track record speaks for itself."

Kazuma relaxed slightly, his light blue eyes glancing at Masako. She gave him a small, encouraging smile, her hand reaching under the table to squeeze his.

After the meeting, as they walked out of the building, Masako turned to Kazuma, her golden eyes shining with a mix of gratitude and admiration. "You didn't have to do that, dear," she said softly. "I could've handled it."

"I know you could have," Kazuma replied, his light blue eyes meeting hers. "But I wasn't going to sit there and let them question your talent. Your art is what makes our games what they are, and I'll always stand by it—and by you."

Masako smiled, her heart overflowing with love. "You're amazing, dear. Thank you for always believing in me."

"Always," Kazuma said, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "We're a team, Masako. And I'll never let anyone undermine what we've built together."

As they walked down the bustling city street, hand in hand, they both felt a renewed sense of purpose. No matter what challenges they faced, they knew they could overcome them together—because their love and respect for each other were at the core of everything they created.

Kazuma had been pushing himself hard lately, diving headfirst into coding and problem-solving for Spirit Walker without much of a break. Though he never complained, Masako could see the subtle signs of his exhaustion—his light blue eyes seemed a little duller, his shoulders a bit more tense, and his usually calm demeanor edged with fatigue.

Masako, ever attentive, decided it was time to intervene. She loved how hardworking Kazuma was, but she also knew he tended to neglect his own well-being when he got too focused. So, she planned something special—a day entirely for him to recharge.

The morning started with Masako gently shaking Kazuma awake. Her golden eyes sparkled with excitement as she sat on the edge of the bed. "Good morning, dear," she said sweetly. "Today, you're taking the day off."

Kazuma blinked groggily, his light blue eyes narrowing in confusion. "What do you mean? We've got so much to do—"

"Nope," Masako interrupted, pressing a finger to his lips. "I already cleared your schedule. No coding, no meetings, no tasks. Today is all about you."

Kazuma frowned slightly, though her enthusiasm made it hard to protest. "But... what about the deadlines?"

Masako smiled, leaning down to kiss his forehead. "Deadlines can wait, dear. You've been working so hard, and you need a break. I've planned everything, so you don't have to feel guilty. Trust me, okay?"

Reluctantly, Kazuma nodded, though a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Alright, sweetie. I'll play along."

Masako started the day by handing Kazuma a book she knew he'd been wanting to read but hadn't found the time for. She set up a cozy reading nook for him by the window, complete with a soft blanket, a steaming cup of his favorite tea, and some snacks.

"Just sit here and relax," she said, patting the chair. "No screens, no work—just you and your book."

Kazuma settled into the chair, feeling the tension in his shoulders start to ease as he flipped through the pages. Masako occasionally peeked in on him, her heart warming every time she saw the peaceful expression on his face.

Later, she encouraged him to take a nap, play some casual video games, and even spend some time out in the garden, where the fresh air seemed to lift his spirits even more. She stayed out of his way for most of the day, giving him the space he rarely allowed himself.

As evening approached, Masako brought her plan to its final stage. She set up a small massage station in their bedroom, complete with scented candles and calming music. "Alright, dear," she said with a grin. "Time for some pampering."

Kazuma chuckled as he lay down on the bed, letting Masako's skilled hands work their magic on his tense back. She kneaded his shoulders and upper back with gentle yet firm pressure, eliciting a content sigh from him.

"You're really good at this," Kazuma murmured, his voice muffled by the pillow. "I feel like I could melt."

Masako giggled, leaning down to kiss the back of his neck. "Good. That's the goal, dear."

Once the massage was done, Masako guided him to the dining table, where she had prepared a delicious homemade dinner. The meal was simple but comforting—a hearty stew with fresh bread and a side of his favorite dessert.

"You're spoiling me today," Kazuma said as he took a bite, his light blue eyes filled with gratitude.

"You deserve it," Masako replied, sitting beside him and resting her chin on her hand as she watched him eat. "It makes me happy to see you happy, dear."

After dinner, the couple retired to bed, but Masako wasn't done showering Kazuma with affection. She cuddled up to him under the covers, her arms wrapped tightly around his waist.

"Thank you for today, Masako," Kazuma said softly, his voice filled with warmth. "I didn't realize how much I needed this."

Masako smiled, her golden eyes meeting his. "You work so hard, dear. Sometimes you need to be reminded to slow down. And you'll always have me to do that for you."

Kazuma kissed her forehead, pulling her closer. "I'm so lucky to have you."

"And I'm lucky to have you," Masako whispered, her voice tender. "Now get some rest, dear. Tomorrow, we'll take on the world together."

As Kazuma drifted off to sleep in her embrace, he felt more relaxed and loved than he had in weeks. And Masako, listening to the steady rhythm of his breathing, knew she had done exactly what he needed. Together, they were an unstoppable team—both in work and in life.
