Chapter 330: Chapter 330 : The Final Phase[4]
Jax was doing everything in his power to stall time but he was running out of HP fast.
He had been copying the abilities of others using his echo mirror and throwing them back at the army with their own magic. Earth walls, stone barriers, fire redirections and a lot more were being recycled against the very people who originally casted them.
Delphine who had been exhausted from firing nonstop for the past twenty minutes saw the stolen spells erupting from his hands and her jaw dropped as she said. "How much are you hiding about yourself? No wait, who actually are you?"
Jax leaned on the half-opened gate and said. "Just a humble professor who knows the exact depth of his student’s stupidity. I mean who in their right mind would be this stubborn to choose pride over life? Look at you, you are trembling and will fall soon enough."
He continued while looking at her with genuine confusion. "But instead of choosing to run away while I hold the enemies from crossing here, you are choosing to support me? And what was your excuse again?"
He spat blood to the side and then acted dramatically while mimicking her tone with painful accuracy. "House Rouveaux does not leave its debts unsettled. You saved my life in the forest and I am returning the favor. We either balance the ledger today or we both die here. But I am not running away."
He dropped the impression and mocked with his own voice. "It is giving me whiplash, Delphine. A few moments ago you were plotting my assassination and now you are dying just to cover my blind spot. And people have the nerve to say I am the one who is hard to read."
Delphine let another arrow fly while being thoroughly pissed at him. "Just shut up. I already told you I am standing here on my own will. I prefer dying with honor by aiding you rather than dying believing your plan would actually work. Isn’t it better than to die getting chased by the empire while cursing you for giving me false hope?"
Jax looked at the stone wall ahead of him shattering under another volley of spells and said. "Why are you so fixated on dying? There is zero chance we die here. Actually let me rephrase that. There is zero chance I die here because my survival luck is practically a superpower at this point. As for you, well, let’s see if your noble pride turns out to be blast-proof."
He said that while pulling his only remaining sword from a corpse beside him since the other one was destroyed a long time ago.
And as the last barrier shattered in front of them there stood around a hundred frustrated and exhausted warriors with magic building in their hands, ready to unleash everything they had left on the two pests who were refusing to die no matter what was thrown at them.
Both Jax and Delphine knew this was going to hurt badly as a massive amount of mana was being concentrated along the mage lines all aimed directly at them.
But before it could fire, Jax held a grin and raised his middle finger toward the entire army while Delphine stood beside him completely confused about what had just changed on his face.
Both of them heard the dungeon voice ring through their minds before the attack could land.
[Congratulations, Hunters. The Dungeon Hidden Gate has been successfully cleared. The Dungeon and its spectators acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of the hunting party in discovering the true ending.]
Then a projection of Tempris appeared before them along with the sight of her going completely insane, sitting beside their own corpses in an alternate timeline, her mind shattered beyond repair as she destroyed everything around her in grief. The bad ending that would have played out if they had chosen to end her life.
[The fate of the Witch of Eternity has been altered. An anomaly has taken interest in the subject and has claimed her into their domain.]
[Distributing rewards to the hunter party.]
Everyone got their own separate reward screen appearing in front of their eyes.
Delphine’s screen showed:
[Title Obtained: Unerring Huntress]
[Reward Granted: SSS-Tier Item — Predator’s Eye. Hunter Delphine can now perceive the exact weak point of any creature or human, highlighted in glowing red.]
And for Jax he got the title Berserker along with rewards that made every wound on his body feel like a fair trade:
[Reward Granted: SSS-Tier Item — Carnage Blade (Soul Weapon). A sword that feeds on the blood of the fallen. The more the host kills, the stronger the buff they receive for a period of time, and the more powerful the blade permanently becomes.]
[Bonus Reward for Contributing the Most — SSS-Tier Item: Voidwalker Boots(Soul Relic). Allows the user to walk on air, water and walls. Repositioning mid-battle becomes effortless.]
Jax was really satisfied because after all his efforts got paid with extreme rewards that he couldn’t have imagined walking in.
[The Dungeon is now performing safe teleportation for the hunters.]
And that was exactly why Jax had that smirk with a raised middle finger aimed at a hundred mages about to vaporize him, which even made Delphine flush red with embarrassment at his shamelessness.
And before that wide-area attack could hit both of them they simply vanished from sight like they were never standing there to begin with.
[Back at the dungeon gate area]
All four girls materialized along with Jax and were staring at each other in the silence that follows something that should have killed them.
Jax was looking at his newly acquired blackish-red sword with the face of a man who had forgotten about every injury on his body because the shiny new toy in his hands was far more important.
The girls were concerned about him at first as his condition was looking really bad with those bruises and torn clothes giving witness to everything he had absorbed out there, but seeing that greedy face of his as he inspected his new sword and boots they were relieved.
